What about hard drives? I feel like 60C is dangerously high
What about hard drives? I feel like 60C is dangerously high
It's a bit high, but not dangerously so. I've got a drive in a weird 3.5"->2.5" adapter that traps some of the heat, and it's right over the GPU so it can get a bit toasty, in the 60-65C range. No problems. Danger temperatures are usually in the 90+ range for processors, video cards, RAM and SSDs, and 70+ for hard drives. Although it depends on the hardware - my GPU is supposedly safe up to 120C (I've never gotten it past 85C). Generally, things will start throttling if they get too hot - my old laptop GPU would throttle at 95C until it cooled to a safe temp.
You turn off any accel in the windows mouse settings. Anything beyond that to get raw input is usually overkill, the effect you described is even very unlikely at the highest windows accel.
Using XP, doesn't have any MouseAcc settings.
Does anyone have a working tasker do not disturb (a la iOS)? I thought I had it working, but it only seemed to work the first night, then refused to work afterwards. Tasker seems to be checking, because the notification time is when it should be turning on and off, but it doesn't put it in silent mode when the screen is off.
Using XP, doesn't have any MouseAcc settings.
XP has mouse acc settings, on and off but that's it.
I'll be buying a GS3 soon and I'm trying to find a good phone case that doesn't look boring. Maybe something game related, and if not, something cost-effective. Do you guys have any recommendations? Amazon has some cheap cases, but none that seemed game related. Although I may have missed some.
I have no prior experience with buying computers, and I'm looking for a good gaming laptop to buy soon. Would this be a good buy? If not, what should I be looking for?

Anyways, it has dual 650M :v: (And overall a good laptop, some people have been complaining about the trackpad - but that got fixed in the laptops that were produced a bit later)
What is a good cheap CPU fan that is both quiet and efficient, and wont cost me much more than $50? The stock one that came with my FX-8150 is probably louder than a Jet engine and it kind of annoys me. And for another question, do you guys ever have heat issues? I mean I'm stuck playing in my room, but even with windows open, door open, and fan on my room temp is a cozy 84 degrees F, while two steps out my door is like a 6-10 degree drop. Any ideas for reducing my heat or am I stuck with a free sauna?

It gets about 3 hours when being used for general/basic things like web browsing and about 1.5 hours when under load.
Just realize that the battery is likely to be terrible
Asks for a actual gaming laptop, whines over battery life.. I mean come on?!
Thinking of getting a 3Tb Wd caviar green, for multimedia storage. Are the 3Tb drives reliable or not?
Thinking of getting a 3Tb Wd caviar green, for multimedia storage. Are the 3Tb drives reliable or not?
Which motherboard do you have? I believe older boards have to get their BIOS'es updated first.
Asrock fatality z68. The board supports the 3Tb hdds. Just need to know if the drives are reliable or not
dunno, the other wd greens seem fine. Also garry bought 3tb's and they're fine too
In general what do people consider to be the best ways to speed up your laptop? My laptop is a Lenovo Y580 so it's pretty powerful and should run well, especially since I installed Windows 8 on it. I put Windows 8 on my girlfriends laptop and it boots up within a minute, and it's an old Dell laptop, however my Lenovo takes a few minutes to reboot. I think I might do a fresh install but that's the worst case scenario. What programs do you all recommend for giving my PC a nice clean? I'm going to try the new CCleaner since the old one always froze for me.
I'm looking to upgrade my ram, and I'm not sure what the difference is for 2x4gb or 3x4gb at 1600MHz for a motherboard that supports up to 3x this thing with a quad Core i7-920 this thing The different pieces I'm looking at is 2x4gb and 3x4gb. Now besides the rather obvious 12gb is more than 8gb, how much of an impact would either of these have? I also want to future proof a bit as well.
What's the news about Ivy bridge-E , is the i7-4960X around the corner yet?

If you need more ram, then buy another set of dual-channel. (Also, I actually don't know how big the difference is, but try getting a vengeance instead) http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=618010 or 16gb if you really need it http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=618011

in that case, what about this thing http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=617274#extra it looks almost identical except for 2000MHz, though I'm not sure the 920 can utilize all of it?
in that case, what about this thing http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=617274#extra it looks almost identical except for 2000MHz, though I'm not sure the 920 can utilize all of it?
The 920 isn't really going to use any more than 1333Mhz if that. But if you want to future proof for a different CPU and Mobo, you'd only want to look at 1600Mhz as memory will be cheaper then.

You barely feel it anyways. But RAM, that's what matters.
Thinking of getting a 3Tb Wd caviar green, for multimedia storage. Are the 3Tb drives reliable or not?
A modern 3TB green should be just fine. I have two second gen 2TB Greens and I got them in 2009 and they still run just fine.
So my monitor, HP 2509m, has an LCD Overdrive feature which reduces the ghosting effect but when I have it enabled it causes an issue, I don't really know what to call it Here is a link, I didn't upload it to youtube because it just compressed it to where you couldn't see it, not the best example but it was the easiest to record Its the weird color striping on the wallpaper I found it most noticible with this wallpaper but it happens everywhere when something pops up or moves I tried to change some of the settings in Catalyst Control Center under the LCD overdrive but it didn't make any difference It's not really important but I would still like to try the feature out
There isn't really anything you can do about that. Overdrive and other features like that can improve response time, but can produce artifacts if it 'misses' the target color.
What is your question exactly? Yes it's overdrive, it tries to preemptively change the color before hand to make the image seem cleaner during motion, but it's not perfect. I never used overdrive the 3 years I used mine.
