The way you said that was so much nicer than how I said it.
Just checked the keyboard, it's still the same price it was a few days ago. I'm going to buy it either way because my heart is set on it, I was just hoping to see if I could get a better deal and save some cash.
Is matte needed?
I'm torn, to be honest. My laptop screen is wicked glossy and I can see my reflection in it almost all the time, which bugs the hell out of me. But I don't know how much a matte screen would interfere with the color and contrast quality of an IPS monitor, which I was planning to buy alongside a PC I'm going to build in January once I can afford it.
I'd say my IPS is pretty matte (Phrozen can confirm) and I still think it looks great.
So is it really that difficult to find one that fits my previously mentioned criteria, or am I going to have to shell out more than $200 to get a 5ms 1080p IPS monitor with a matte screen? I kind of want to get a 27" one, but I'm aware that the pixel density would be less than ideal above 24". Is it really that big of a problem if I'm sitting approximately two feet away from the monitor, or does it not matter?
There are plenty of ips monitors for $200 and under. Most are like 22"-24" though. I couldn't find many matte ips monitors.
IPS doesn't mean it's a good monitor. it has to be a calibrated, good panel before it can actually be a good colour accurate monitor
a bad IPS can be just as bad as a bad TN monitor

get an 8bit Dell.
I need to know ASAP for a paper for one of my classes - Why is it that some benchmarking websites like Guru3D use these wicked expensive and overpowered rigs featuring enthusiast CPUs and excessively large amounts of RAM as their test systems for graphics cards when it's common knowledge that you only need an i5 and 8GB of RAM to get the best performance alongside a graphics card when gaming?
And I still need these two answered at some point:
its basically just to remove as much bottlenecking as possible from the equation
plus it looks cool
Does anyone know of a good Steering Wheel controller for kinda cheap that I can use with my PC?
I've been looking to get one for awhile, but I don't know much about them.

Bricked my DZ77BH-55K with a botched BIOS update and need a new motherboard. Any recommendations? Needs LGA 1155 socket and support for the GTX 970.
I'm looking to buy a Gtx 970 . but theres quite a few models around by various manufacturers.
Now i'd like to know what i should be looking for to see which is the best.
Ultrawide monitors: Yay or Nay?
I do a lot of programming work and I utilize two monitors on a daily basis, but my desk is sorta small and I can barely fit my two monitors. I figure if I land myself an ultrawide, it'll work the same (similar) as two monitors, while saving some space at the same time. I just can't quite swallow spending $300 or $400 on it. I can't quite decide. Any opinions?
I had one.

I liked it, it was fun, programming was nice cause I could have my compiler on the left side and chrome on the right and it was perfect fit.

it's pretty good for side by side office and programming workflows. you're upping your screen real estate from 1080 for less than 1440

i recommend the Dell u2913wm. i have one and it's excellent with a good warranty and insanely good sturdy stand
I currently looking to buy a Laptop, my current one I use does struggle maxing half life 2 out. I'm not a serious gamer, but I'd want to play half life 2 at least in Max. Will a laptop running 4th Gen Intel Core i3-2ghz, Intel iris 5000*, 4GB ram run Half life life 2 in max settings, and smoothly.
With a budget of around £400, what laptop would you guys recommend?
Hello guys, a real quick question of course.
I'm interesting in doing streaming, but my desktop although fairly powerful, can't handle streaming, what would i have to do or get in order to improve my computers streaming capability?

Depends on the resolution, bitrate, and frames per second that you want to stream at. What are your specs?

Let me know what specs in particular you need to know, i'll post em when i get back from class.

Try an acer

Mostly just your CPU, but RAM and graphics card might help as well. If you could also run a Speedtest to show us your download/upload speeds, that would also help because above all else, your connection speeds matter the most. You could have a wicked beefy rig that's perfectly designed for streaming, but if your upload speeds aren't up for the task, you're gonna have a rather tough time streaming gameplay for your friends at a reliable quality.

And follow Kiwi's guide if you need an idea of what hardware to buy for specific streaming settings.

Acer makes decent budget laptops, but based on my experiences and many reviews I've read, their cooling systems really aren't that reliable. Lenovo would be a much better choice.

Alright, just gonna put word for word each piece of hardware.
4 core AMD phenom II x4 965
Nvidia geforce GTX 560 Ti (i've had it for a while, it might actually be a tad out dated, maybe)
two 4 gig sticks of ram.
and finally speed test:

From seeing kiwis little guide, i'd personally be shooting for 720p @ 60 fps, i love my buttery smooth frame rate
Better up that x264 profile to it's fastest. That 965 is weak as balls. Plus you also need to factor in when streaming your frame rate will drop. So you may not even maintain 60 fps at all.

Also since you're on windows 7.
Turn off windows aero now and leave it off forever. Streaming + aero will destroy all frame rate and even make the desktop 100% unseable.
I mean, the 965 has played me through a lot of games at high settings, is it just streaming that it'd be weak at? and i'm gonna catch my desktop up to speed with all the little things you suggested.
x264 can be amazingly harsh and taxing. Especially on older hardware.
so, my cpu isn't weak on its own, but against streaming it's gonna cry? :v
Anyone want a OnePlus One invite?
So one of my svchost processes is sucking up all of my memory. How do I get a detailed view of exactly which service is using how much?
resmon isn't helpful, all it tells me is it's one of the ones in the netsvcs group, no actual service name.

Find the PID of the service process, and then go to the Services tab in Task Manager and look at what services have that PID. It won't be exact, but it will narrow it down.

So based on this list, it was either Windows Update downloading things, or a piece of hardware acting up.
I've unplugged the suspect hardware and changed my Windows Update settings to not download without my explicit orders, we'll see if it acts up again. But while it's still fresh, can anyone think of any other things in this list that could be part of the problem?
So I need a new case, CPU cooler, power supply, and graphics card.
Case can be anything as long as it's under 100, PSU that's modular and has enough power for a new card, and I need a card in the 200-300 range. Kinda wanna be able to run new games on high-ish settings, but I dunno if my cpu's gonna bottleneck me.
current specs

also my current case is a ~cooler master elite~
What do you guys recommend?
the i5 it's still decent and you won't be bottlenecked at all even with a 970
