Hey guys, I have a Motorolla Surfboard modem that doubles as a router, if I get a second router to imrpove the signal on my main floor (modem is in the basement) will I have to connect it via wired/ethernet cable or will I be able to connect it wirelessly?
In theory, you could use it as a wireless repeater as long the second router supports it. However, wired is the preferred connection between them for reliability/speed. That also means that the second router will need a decent connection to the main router.
What kind of switches are in this old Fujitsu Model FKD8720 my grandfather has? It's a pleasure to type on and I was surprised that it wasn't rubberdome.
Considering Google says that literally doesn't exist across the entire Internet, I have no idea.
Does anyone use a skin for windows? I remember seeing a really nice, clean, glass one but I forget what it was called.
Edit: Found it, Shine 2.0.
Hey guys, I have 2 Zotac GTX 760's running in SLI, and each card has 2 fans. One of the fans on one of my cards is malfunctioning, when I boot up my computer it spins for a second then stops, and it won't respond. Is it dying/dead? What should I do?
I've been having this problem recently, when out of nowhere my computer will just freeze up and stop. If I don't restart it, it eventually goes into a blue screen of death. Namely, dpc_watchdog_violation.
I googled what it was about, and it told me to update my disk drives. However, I'm not sure if I know how to do it correctly. And since I don't want to fuck shit up in a grandiose manner, I'm here asking for help.
My disk drivers are a Seagate ST2000DM001-1CH164 and a Kingston SV300S37A120G. Any suggestions?
Go to the manufacturer websites and see if there is a firmware update available. Most have a Windows utility, but if its a boot drive, you will probably need to make a DOS boot disk and update it from there (the drive manufacturer will have utility for this as well).
And make sure you have a backup of the drive. If something goes wrong, you will have a paperweight on your hands.
I'm currently on nVidia drivers version 340.xx because I'm on an 8600GT and nVidia has decided my card is a legacy device. I've got a 530 coming in.
Will 340.xx run a 530 well enough for me to update to the latest drivers without too much effort?
Buying a cheap tablet for myself to watch movies/netflix/browse the web and other small shit. Stuck between two options:

I would be wary about a 16 GB Windows tablet. These are running the full x86 Windows 8.1. Its going to be using around 8-10 GB before any programs are installed. I have a 32 GB one and even that feels small.
I would personally go for the Stream 7, but that's just me. If you can pony up the $50, get a Stream 8.

If the Insignia allows more than 16gb of storage on SD I'd consider it over the Stream. It says the stream can only hold 32gb SD but I can't find whether or not the Insignia allows more than 16.
I only plan on using this for very casual use, so size isn't a problem. I would get the 8 inch Stream but I'm being really frugal, want to save for a $1000+ computer this summer.

The SD card limitation is a OS one more than a hardware one. Granted I have a Venue 8 5000 which is a little higher end, but it had no issues seeing a 64 GB mSD card. Both tablets should have no issues with >32 GB cards.
The reason why I pointed out the internal storage space is because its also going to have a recovery partition onboard. You will probably have 2-4 GB free until you create a backup disk. And then Windows update will gobble up whatever's left until it finishes running.
Is it possible to have the boot drive separate from a RAID-1 array, so it looks something like:
C:\WINDOWS INSTALLATION
F:\RAID-1 ARRAY CONSISTING OF TWO DRIVES

Yes.

Is there any special way of going about this?
I know that if I set my motherboards SATA configuration to RAID it prevents me from booting into my current windows 7 installation
I'm moving out soon and I have to get my own internet so Comcast has the best performance per dollar so is this the best Cable Modem for it?

I went from a 9500 GT 1024MB to a GTX 760 2048MB, the existing driver I had on Linux seemed to run my 760 fine.
I can't say specifically what version I was running on there, though.
On Windows I'm running 334.89 which also runs it fine, after upgrading the card.

I was mostly concerned about my Windows install, because Windows is so GUI reliant it's literally unusable if you don't have at least a partially working graphics stack, and all I really want is to be able to open my web browser and get to nvidia.com
My Linux install I'm not as worried about, worst case scenario I login as root in TTY and run three commands:
vi /etc/portage/package.mask # Remove mask on newer nvidia drivers
emerge -u nvidia-drivers
rc-service xdm restart && logout
I'm glad to know that 340.xx will probably run the new card just fine, thank you.

It's a common favorite amongst people looking for a cheap case without sacrificing any quality or functionality. If it has what you need, then you made the right choice.
ok cool, thanks
Any suggestions on what I should do with a 16GB M2 SSD? I already have a 240GB SSD as my primary drive, so I don't see any use for it past some additional storage.

I have the windowless variant, and have absolutely no complaints.

No clue. I'd say use it as a small linux drive, but I see you have that covered
Is there any possible way I can reset all 3 of my monitor's brightness, contrast, and gamme settings via a bat file or something?
What's a good cheap bluetooth keyboard?
I need something that works with my tablet and phone (both android, kitkat and ics) and has rechargeable batteries

use it as /boot maybe, or convert it to an external drive
So is more than 4GB RAM recommended for me. Just tried playing a Gmod Rp sever on max, but it was clearly struggling. My CPU was only at 62%, laptop wasn't blasting heat. My RAM was going up to 89% usage.
I've got i3-4158U CPU Which is 2.0GHz, dual core, Iris 5100, but only 4GB RAM. Got my GPU control panel on max performance. Gmod doesn't seem CPU intensive, so will extra 4GB RAM help, or any other methods.

8GB of RAM is the sweet spot for getting the best performance out of your games. However, if you're expecting any video game to run well using the integrated graphics chip on your CPU (which is what that Iris 5100 is), you've got another thing coming, boyo. Source Engine games are also very reliant on your CPU's capabilities, and since it's only a dual core that runs at ~2GHz, you're going to have a tough time there too. The extra RAM will definitely help, but only by so much. Sounds like your laptop really wasn't built with gaming in mind.

Yes. I know it's not a gaming machine. Seeming the only games I play are Valve games. I can run CS:GO at Max settings very smoothly even on Modded severs. Just this sever must of had alot of props in one area, because overall I can quite easy "game on this laptop for them games. I did notice memory usage was very high overall and if it does make a a noticeable difference. It's worth the upgrade.
