I need some help with my PC. My CPU is regularly hitting 55-60'c when simply browsing the web, and it idles at around 47-50'c otherwise. I know nothing about cooling, etc and I really need something which is reasonably cheap but will do the job nicely. 71'c is the limit, according to this page however I really want it to operate quite a bit lower than it currently does. Can anyone suggest what I could do to solve this? I'm looking to upgrade soon but I simply don't have enough money, and I need this PC to last me a while longer.
honestly you could probably just renew the thermal paste, there's also plenty of coolers around the sub $50 range like the 212 EVO that you can take with you on your next build anyway
It's an LGA 775 CPU too. The 212 EVO says LGA 1366 / 1155. Would it still fit on mine?
Oh, my bad. I was reading the Amazon page. Thanks for your help!
Be sure to check the dimensions of your case too, the 212evo mounted is really REALLY tall.
I'm looking at picking up a 970. Can anybody recommend a certain brand? I'm looking at this one or this one. The problem I'm having is that I don't know if gigabyte is reliable, having never used them. But the specs on it look better than the EVGA card, and the price difference is negligible. And for what it's worth, I'm looking at SLI as well. Should that impact my decision in any way? Will these cards SLI well?
Is DSR a good thing to benchmark against? Im testing running my current games @ 4K DSR - If they run smooth with that DSR I assume it means with a 4K screen it will be fine? Cant find much about it on the internet.

What are typical laptop CPU and Motherboard idle temps? My laptop CPU and Motherboard are above 40 idle and jump to above 50 sometimes when idling. This is from what I observed in Speccy I've had this laptop for a year now, and it's a Sager brand.
yeah that's pretty normal
Alright thanks a ton. I'm now running Vindictus (CPU-intensive) in borderless fullscreen and Speccy shows me this: Now should I be worried? Or is this still normal for a laptop? I'm in a relatively cold room (poor insulation). And I also have a wooden desk, the laptop is directly on it (so there's not like a gap between). Sorry for all the questions, but this was a pricey laptop so I'm hoping the parts can last for at least another 2-3 years.
for a laptop that's fine [editline]1st January 2015[/editline] that's an average mobile i7 load temp
Alright thanks again you two!
Alright thanks again you two!
If it's any more comfort, my laptop's GPU regularly pushes 95C give or take 5 which in turn makes my CPU run about 85-90 instead of 70-80
Also, if I was looking to get a better graphics card (which I'm pretty sure I need), what would I get? DirectX 11 Compatibility nessesary EDIT: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/152440973/GSpecs.PNG
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...73/MSCPECS.PNG
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...73/MSCPECS.PNG
Geforce 400 series or later. AMD's equivalent would also be good but I don't know what that would be. thanks to console ports being prevalent, a 400 will serve you well even though it's from a few years ago
Does anyone have a recommendation for a really good performance monitoring tool? Something that will log and save CPU, GPU, etc in addition to FPS.
I accidentally hit my laptop's screen with the adapter coord and now I have a 3cm strip of dead pixels. So now I'll have to look for a screen replacement. My question is can you replace a laptop's screen with a higher resolution one? Currently it's 1600x900 but could I look to replace it with a larger one? Or is it a hard-set thing tied to on board graphics controller?

I've heard of some people saying its a simple swap and others said that the higher resolution panel didn't work correctly. For the best chance of it working, it would need to be from the same model laptop and use the exact same connector.

The laptop I got was an earlier model Acer Aspire with lower resolution screen. I was looking for laptops recently again and saw these new edition ones with higher resolution screens and wondered if they're interchangeable or something.
Does anyone know a fairly easy way of fooling websites into thinking that my IP adress is different? I want to surf some websites that have some restrictions for my country.

I unplugged my primary monitor earlier this morning for use with another computer, leaving my secondary monitor plugged in. I returned to reconnect the monitor, and when I rebooted the PC I was getting no signal on either monitor- so nothing's coming through VGA or DVI. I've cleared the CMOS and tested that both monitors work, and I know the PC's booting, as pressing F2 opens the UEFI with a boot noise. Can anyone e offer any help? I'm totally stuck on ideas. Thanks I should also mention I'm running an ASRock FM2A88M Extreme4+ with an AMD Kaveri 7770k
The Hola Plugin for Chrome used to be a thing. I don't know if it still is, but it used to be.
It's still a thing, though it's not a good idea to use. It works both ways, so if someone wants to use a site in your country, they'll connect through your computer. And then you're responsible for their traffic.
I'm getting pre-purchase buyer's remorse, just because there's a lot I wanna buy. I do a lot of multitasking, hi-res texturing and modelling, (Maya, Photoshop and Quixel, also UE4) currently on 8gb of ram. Would upgrading to 16gb make a noticeable difference in speed/multitasking leeway?
going past 8GB is insane, unless you like minecraft mods or virtual machines
The computer that runs my schools studio has 80 gigs of ram. Gotta step your game up. If you haven't bought a cpu yet and i7 would also help a lot in your situation.

I made a thread but I probably should've asked here. I need a software to manage srcds servers with (saving startup commands etc.) anyone got any advice?
What the.......
Pro tools requires A LOT of memory. A lot of shit the program stores uses ram memory as an option. Doesn't mean its not overkill.
GTX 670 is on its way out. What's a cheap/decent card for gaming at 1440p? All I really play is WoW, StarCraft 2, Civilization, CSGO, and Dark Souls 2.
