Recently I've just gotten started with streaming and I just got a new usb headset, I'll list the problem and what I have going on.
I want to be able to hear my skype calls in my headset. I want my stream to pick up the skype call, not just me, but I also want my speakers to have everything but the skype call.
Skype call audio playback is set to USB Audio Device
Laptop audio playback (including xsplit and gameplay sound) is set to Realtek HD Audio Speakers
Xsplit mic is set to USB Audio Device
I just want to be able to hear my TV and the game, not Xsplit playing back my game with 1 second lag in my ears while playing.
or
Can I have all the audio in my ears, and solve the problem entirely by somehow making xsplit quiet without being quiet on the stream?
Sorry if my wording is weird, long day and tired.
Example, I was streaming God Hand last night on my old headset with no USB, so the audio was all forced into my ears. In order to have my stream volume at a good level, I have to be able to hear the game in my ears with a 2second delay to what I'm doing on the screen. Not only is this disorienting, but when I'm in a call, I cannot hear anyone over the punches and gameplay. So I'd love to figure out how i can mute the game audio just for me, but still have it loud and clear on my stream.
It's a very brute force solution, but if you have two headsets you could plug them both in and route the game audio to it rather than the ones your using?
so your problem is that game audio is going to the wrong place or xsplit audio is going to the wrong place?

I could give that a shot, though that would mean going back to my old $5 headset held together with ducttape lol.

Well since I'm recording my PS3 using the Elgato Game Capture, its sending the video to my laptop and the sound. Xsplit supports Elgato, so I run Xsplit over their program. Xsplit is playing game audio on my laptop when I'm not in a call, however when I'm in a call, and people want to hear who I'm talking to, I have to set my skype call to laptop speakers in order for them to be heard on my stream. What this does is makes my stream clear with no problems, however, i can't hear my friends over my game audio being played through the same speakers my call is coming out of.
If it's possible, I'd love to be able to mute Xsplit, without it muting Xsplit on my stream. It's extremely confusing for me.
I don't get how simply muting xsplit in the mixer would effect the streams audio at all.

is the stream using 'what you hear' or something? I feel like this is being overthought

I am likely overthinking it, but yes, what I'm hearing is what it's playing. So using the mixer and muting Xsplit mutes the game on the stream.

Why would you have to use the old one? Why couldn't the audio you don't want to hear be over the old crap one?
Why would you have to use the old one? Why couldn't the audio you don't want to hear be over the old crap one?
Well the thing is, the old headset is just the two jacks for headphones and mic. Without my new headset I have only one playback device on my laptop. With my new USB Headset, it gave me a new playback device to set as a default and vice/versa.

So the only audio is game and skype right?
The way I have mine set up a lot is skype goes over my headset (set is as default communications device) and everything else plays over my speakers(In your case the old headset). Couldn't you use the same set-up basically, with your good headphones as the communications device?

That's exactly what I'd love to be able to do, but it's not working, skype sound isn't sent through the stream.

What program are you streaming with?
What program are you streaming with?
Xsplit, the free version.
My other choice is Elgato's software, which I see working alright for other people, but it's very limited in features for a full streaming program.

Ok, well I don't know xsplit specifically, I only use livestream (I stream art stuff) but it should have a similar option, go in to audio and find "mixer" in there (or somewhere around in audio) you should be able to add sources

I'm not having any luck finding it in Xsplit. May just need to keep tinkering with everything to find somethign that works.

Yeah, apparently looking now you cant do that with xsplit. Thats pretty crap.
OK, get virtual audio cable, make your microphone Line 1 and set all the audio you want to stream to forward to Line 1
this program is so bad :(

I'll give this a try in the morning and post results, gonna just solo stream for now since no one on skype is online at the moment, thank you for though, just cant test it till later.
Excuse me if this isn't the place to post it. I'm looking for a way to manipulate the lights in my house using an app on my phone called "Unified", I just bought a small home server that'll be running.
no one knows how to switch lights off in my house.
Linus (LinusTechTips) recently did something like that. I don't think it needed a server though.
Thanks, I should note though that I can't exactly go around making holes in the house and I'd preferably like something that either run on android or is computer based.

You actually just replace the power plug. You unscrew the original one, put in the new electronic one & done.
It appears RAM has gone up in price. 8gb was $40 now it is $60. Why?
Posted 5 days ago but I haven't seen a reply telling why so:

I think that's why.

Thanks, I might give it ago. One last question, does anyone have recommendation for a cheap microphone? It'll just be used for simple voice recognition and maybe skype.

I recommend just going to your local store and picking up whatever looks like it will work, likelyness is it will.
If you live in Canada The Source is good, I use one of their cheap in house brand ones (Nexxtech) which works quite well.
Is there an app/script/thing for Google Chrome that makes text from forums wrap properly? Spriters Resource Forums are a bit too wide for my netbook's screen, and I keep having to scroll horizontally to read the few last words of every line.

Link to a problem page, and what res?
The USB ports behind my PC get really hot, and my keyboard stops working time to time (it's Razer Blackwidow, though, no surprise it's starting to break). Should I be worried?

Are they shorting or something? They shouldn't get hot.

Is it just the USB ports or everything on the back?
Are they shorting or something? They shouldn't get hot.
I don't know. All I know is that my keyboard died. Thankfully I still had my old one.
[editline]18th April 2013[/editline]
Now that I checked, it seems that it was only the keyboard's port that got hot, or more specifically it was actually the keyboard's cord that was burning.

Probably a problem with the keyboard, rather than the computer.
I had an external hard drive enclosure go bad once. Literally started smoking a bit - when I pulled it out, the tip of the cable was burning hot.
Port still works, and the hard drive is fine, so the only real loss was a $20 enclosure.
