any particular advantages of IPS monitors? I thought they really only mattered in professional environments or the such
Brighter, better colors, better contrast. They're not a must, not at your price range, but they're a good nice-to-have. Conveniently for you, this monitor is on sale for $160. 1920x1080, IPS (although a low-quality IPS, still better than TN) and a very thin bezel. It's also 21" instead of 23", which I find to be a good thing in a monitor (gives you more desk space while still being completely readable).
Honestly going from a 23 down to a 21 would be annoying for me
Honestly going from a 23 down to a 21 would be annoying for me
I'm using a 17" screen at that resolution. Not a problem.
I'm using a 17" screen at that resolution. Not a problem.
How do you do it? I can't stand small monitors since I love snap so much
I almost wish I didn't have a 24" screen because now I feel like I can't downsize. Space isn't a problem, I have massive desk.
How do you do it? I can't stand small monitors since I love snap so much
I like monitors with high pixel densities - lots of pixels, in a small space. A 17" 1920x1080, a 27" 2560x1440, and so on. 17" is a bit small for a 1080p screen, but it's a bit large for a laptop so it balances out. Normally I'm on a multi-monitor setup as well (dual- or triple-monitor), but I'm just lounging on the couch, not doing anything important.

I'm talking about a desktop. Though on laptops I prefer 15.6"
I need a case that will fit an ASUS Z9PE-D8 board and two 140mm radiators mounted in the top. Go!
I need a case that will fit an ASUS Z9PE-D8 board and two 140mm radiators mounted in the top. Go!
Apart from server racks, theres only 3 cases on Newegg that would take an EEB board, and none of them have room up top for two 140mm radiators. (The Raven, Cosmos II and Tejmjin btw). Your best bet would be a CaseLabs but those are ridiculously expensive.

wasn't that on the email sales list?
was it? I haven't checked it in a while

But it is cheap, and it's otherwise a good monitor. If you're not someone who wants his monitors at exactly the right height, or flips them into portrait mode sometimes, it would be fine.
Hrm Im going through my emails and I don't see it mentioned I swear I saw it anyway I never had a viewsonic before but it not a bad deal, I'm curious about the quality of the speakers if you are set on using those.

Ah you don't have ajacks syndrome, should be good for you then.
I generally don't adjust height or tilt, nor do I go into portrait mode
Then it sounds like it's fine for you.

slap necessary files on a flash drive and install from there?
I just installed Windows 7 and I can't use my ethernet port because I need drivers, I don't have my motherboard CD anymore. Where do I go from here?
Download drivers from another computer, copy them onto a USB drive and install from there?
-solved
google your specs of the mobo +driver and find a search result that looks like where it comes from. if anything people end up uploading them for other folks in a bind like this.
