Is this laptop good for 3Ds Max/SFM? Oh, and games.
Hey Guys, BF3 doesn't run at max/max with Eyefinity but it does run on everything high.
Heres my specs, I figure its the processor/ram that is slowing me down, would it be a good idea to save for the current generation of Intel?
CPU: 1090T - 3.9GHZ -Xigmatek Thors Hammer
Motherboard: Crosshair IV Formula
Ram: DDR3 - 1600 - 8-8-824
Videocard: 2 x Asus HD7950 Direct CU 2 Top Edition - 975 - 1575
PSU: CorsairHX 850
HDD1: Samsung 840
HDD Others: 3 x 3TB
Running at 6080 x 1080
Most games max out the Videocards while playing Eyefinity but not in 1920x1080.
I get about 40-50 FPS on High Battlefield 3 using 6080x1080, But when I tick things over to "Ultra" it just crashes, any ideas?
Pure performance wise, specifically for games, is it worth it to upgrade from an i7 920 running at 3ghz to a more current intel cpu?

It is probably noticable, but only if you're already on really good GPU hardware.
Just a quick question about getting half decent laptop. I'm looking for one that's relatively fast, decent screen size, preferably Windows 7 and could perhaps run some mediocre games.
Looking at paying around £500 -£700(max).
As you can tell, I'm not a computer tech and I'm easy. All I'm looking for is the convinience more than anything.
Thanks in advance.

Which GPU should I get? Also if I run one of these with an FX-6350, will I create any bottleneck issues?

Doesn't require too much effort to bottleneck a AMD processor. But I guess you're fine.
If you're spending that much on a PC, you're hopefully getting powerful enough parts that you'll want a case with good airflow. Unless you *want* the thing to sound like a jet engine and overheat constantly, I'd probably get a new case, one that's designed to manage something more powerful.
I'll also say, from experience, old cases like that are *extremely* hard to work in. You may only build it once, but it's almost worth an extra hundred or so to get a case that you can work inside.
a bit late reply but i guess you're right
I built it and it is kinda noisy

The temperatures are fine, airflow is quite nice but yeah the only downside is the noise
Does anybody here have any experience with AT&T U-Verse as an ISP? Anything I should know about before possibly committing to them?

Bad reviews. Lots and lots of bad reviews.

It's shit, stay away. Nearly every time we get a customer that has U-Verse, the connection is intermittent (I'm talking about dropping every 30 seconds), slow (even by DSL standards) and the modem/router they provide is a bitch and a half to configure most of the time.
I'm building a pc soon that will mostly be playing emulated games (nes-ps2), the most taxing thing MAYBE grand theft auto 4. I've been looking at all my choices for CPU, and from an in game standpoint, am I going to notice much of a difference between amd's new apu CPU gizmos or a similarly clocked i5 from Intel? I heard Intel may have something new out this month too, is there going to be another jump in performance in these new chips?
Thank you
You're better off with an i5 for emulators, some may be threaded but i can't see one using more than 2-4 cores. You'll want the cores it does use to be stronger.
The i5-4670K is only marginally better than the 3570k so you can save a bit of dough by getting a used 3570K or one on clearance in a few weeks.
I want to buy a tablet with mobile internet but I know nothing about mobile plans or anything like that. What should I do?

I thought it was supposed to be like that
What antivirus do you guys use/prefer if any?
What antivirus do you guys use/prefer if any?
I use Comodo but only because I'm paranoid. Comes with an award winning firewall, HIPS, and a fully integrated sandbox. It's extremely powerful if you're not illiterate.
But MSE is fine for the average user imo.

Most if not all decent cases are bottom mounted. Even if they are top mounted, it doesnt stick out the top.

If I get a virus, I just reinstall. #LivingOnTheEdge
MSE is really good. The average user with a router doesn't really need a firewall. I use Sandboxie for a sandbox if I want to use software that I think has a false positive on MSE.

They're slow but very reliable with the advertised and rock solid 3mbit/s for us. Not the worst option if you're looking for cheap internet and cable, but you can certainly do better if you're looking for speed.
Hell, they even give you a little UPS so your internet can stay up for a few days in a power outage with conservative usage and the cable box they give you is totally adaquate for the job, being easy to use, fast and able to store a bunch of shows. The main disadvantage is certainly the speed for the price, though, because the best value you can pretty much get is the $40 12Mbit/s "max internet" whereas with FIOS you get 15Mbit/s for $50 and 50Mbit for $60. (you can also negotiate with AT&T to keep your starting rates so I would recommend doing so by threatening to switch to FIOS once that runs out).
When you partition a hard drive does it separate the data physically?
Like if I split a drive into 2 partitions, is partition one from the spindle to the center, then partition two is the center to the outer edge?

Usually, but not necessarily. And it's complicated by multiple platters. But generally yes, hard drives work that way - I recall being advised to put the root, then swap, partitions first so they get the faster outer edge, then put all the other partitions ending with the least speed-sensitive.
When buying RAM for a new system (Haswell), I'm going by the supported vendors listed by Asus for a Z87-K. I'm not going to be doing any overclocking, I just want decent ram and apparently mine isn't supported. If RAM is not listed on their supported documentation, is it just not going to work at all? or has it just not been tested?

If it is ddr3, it will work.
Whatever you get will work fine

DDR3 is DDR3, 'supported' memory may as well just be lame advertising
It's akin to charging money for a USB 2.0 mice that also work with USB 3.0
So even my Corsair Arctic Vengeance that I have now will work? The reason I ask is because my brother advised me intel builds can be 'picky' about memory or something. It totals to £400 including delivery without RAM, and while I'd love to add another 8GB the prices for RAM are ridiculous.
