this is an awfully stupid question i'm getting a new mouse (steelseries sensei), i'm a big nut about wires catching on shit and i don't want to plug my mouse into my computer due to this. my monitor has a usb hub (dell ultrasharp 23 in) but i'm curious if plugging it into my monitor instead of directly into my computer would have an affect on performance sorry if this is a stupid question

I would just suck it up and plug it into the back of your PC. Plus then you don't have any cables coming out of your monitor.

Hello Facepunch! I'm (with a bit of luck) going to University soon and am wanting to buy a laptop to take with me. I'm going to be spending quite a bit on a decent one that can run games and such, and I've got my choices down to the MSI GT60 2OC or the MSI GT70 2OC. Both of these laptops have the exact same specs and the only difference between them is the screen size, both are 1920x1080 so I don't think image quality will be a problem here. The weight and size of the two seems to be very similar and I heavily doubt I'd be taking the laptop with me to lectures because I'd rather listen to what the teacher is saying rather than sit there tapping away at a keyboard. I've heard rumours that the bigger laptops will massively drain battery but surely when the specs are the same the rate of battery drain couldn't be that different. I've heard that the 15.6" one can do about 5-6 hours of casual use and internet browsing, and about 2 hours of gaming. Surely the 17.3 would be similar to that, give or take 10 minutes? I don't really know, I've never had a laptop before. Also, this may not still be the case but previously whenever laptops were mentioned here people would just instantly give out the 'buy a desktop instead' lecture and that isn't helpful here. I require a laptop to take with me to uni, and I would like to know what you guys think about the screen sizes/battery lifes. Thanks in advance!
If I were you, I would go with the 15 or a lenovo y500/y510p.
Lenovos here don't have Haswell yet and don't have graphics chips to the standard I want. I'll certainly look into the 15" version a little more though.
Does newegg automatically require a signature for ups? I ordered a lot of hardware and don't want it sitting on my porch while I'm away.
From the FAQ, it appears they require a signature: http://help.newegg.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/376/kw/signature Might be best just to ask support: http://help.newegg.com/app/chat/sa_chat_launch_submit/site/US/category/30
I received a used 7970 today. Have had a lot of problems getting it to work correctly. I uninstalled the old drivers and used driver sweeper in safe mode, but then I got a warning when I installed the new drivers (Catalyst 13.4). I rebooted to get the drivers running, and the first thing that happens is that I get artifacts (small red rectangles all over the place) and the driver crashes. Since the card had been used, I figured maybe the memory was toast, but then it ran Furmark just fine. I also managed to get Minecraft and Battlefield 3 running. Minecraft crashed on startup once, but when I got it going, it ran without a hitch. All that makes me think that the card is fine, hardware wise. I remember I had some similar issues back when my 5870 was new. Powerplay would use clocks that were too low for my eyefinity setup, and I would get artifacts all the time as a result. I don't recall it being bad enough for the drivers to crash though. The card is a Sapphire 7970 Vapor-X GHz edition, and as I mentioned, I'm running eyefinity. Any ideas? Edit: I reinstalled one more time, using AMDs own uninstall tool (I didn't realize they had made one), and it worked fine this time. No errors or warnings, and I have yet to see any artifacts. Edit2: nevermind, despite no errors, I still get artifacts Edit3: Anything in flash seems to cause problems. Sometimes I get artifacts, followed by a driver crash, and sometimes everything just goes to shit and I have to restart the computer.
The "if the driver does not feel it is safe to leave it at your door" scares me. I'll call, thanks.
Just hire some thug-looking black guys to screw around on your street so it doesn't look safe
Ok, So everytime I try and do something remotely taxing to the computer, the GPU seems to just overload and crash the whole computer. Like, I'll be watching a video and whatever audio was playing will just loop and the whole computer will seize up. So with that in mind, I figured I needed a graphics card that isn't internal so I can actually fucking watch a 720p video without it crashing after 5 minutes of viewing. However, I don't know about compatability and all that, so I'd be greatful for some help. This is the card I've decided upon. I don't care that it's not high-end, I just need something that can at the very least play video and has a HDMI port.
Just hire some thug-looking black guys to screw around on your street so it doesn't look safe
Well you see, that's kinda the problem.....
It would work, it just depends on the wattage of your power supply.
This is the PSU I appear to have Corsair CX 430w PSU
This is the PSU I appear to have Corsair CX 430w PSU
Yeah, that should work.
I'm looking for a laptop for college that's somewhat light, thin, and running with a Haswell. I've primarily been looking at the Asus Vivobook S551LB and am wondering if there's anything in a similar price range that would be better or if there is some issue with it. I'm also hoping this is the right place to ask this.
I'd really appreciate an opinion on this. I'm looking at a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P with the sli since it's on sale and has the 4th gen, but I'm hearing mixed reviews. Some people are saying its great and are having no problems, but other people are saying the trackpad is awful. Since the sale ends on the 3rd, I'd really like some thoughts on this. Thanks!

[t]http://i.imgur.com/S2jh2Ac.jpg[/t] Why is my second display letterboxing like this? It happened after I changed the refresh rate from 59 to 60hz, and even after I changed it back this is still happening. [editline]2nd July 2013[/editline] connected through HDMI, at 1360x768 It was filling the whole screen earlier [editline]2nd July 2013[/editline] changing to 1280x720 fills the screen now the hell
What's the native resolution?
What's the native resolution?
With VGA the maximum was 1360x768, with HDMI it's 1080p [editline]2nd July 2013[/editline] I mean I'll be buying an adapter soon enough so I won't be stuck with HDMI for long but it'd be nice if it would actually stay put for now
I think I used to have that kind of issue back when I was on an intel integrated gpu. I'll try and remember how I fixed it.
Is there a way to "tunnel" my computers connection at home, through my iphone, onto my laptop that is out and about with no internet connection? Goal here is to essentially access the internet over my laptop wherever I may be as long as I have data service on my phone using my internet back home.
I think I used to have that kind of issue back when I was on an intel integrated gpu. [editline]2nd July 2013[/editline] Is there a way to fix any monitors that I have connected through HDMI looking blurry as hell?
Since summer arrived, my computer got much more silent. Some times you couldn't even hear the fans, but checking the temps on SpeedFan gives pretty normal temperatures. What's going on? [editline]2nd July 2013[/editline] And if I lower the 'Pwm' sliders the temps stay the same. [t]http://i.imgur.com/H8yAVZq.png[/t]
I'm looking to build a PC for someone where their most intense activity is HD videos on youtube and transferring pictures in bulk from a digital camera to a hard drive. Would this be a good build? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1cvi8 optional parts are the gpu, speakers, mouse, keyboard, and screen.

A 650 Ti is quite overkill for that. A PSU would be useful aswell.

Quick question is The Nvidia's 320.49 fix the issues in 320.18 and is it ok to update? If it helps I'm on a 570
