So is getting a DVI cable worth it?

Yep, already doing that.
Looking for a non-gaming laptop. Dont really have a lot of requirements other than it cannot be a mac. Budget is $1000 -- Will be used for extensive internet browsing, video watching, ppt making, and document writing.

That is a ridiculously large budget for what you're asking for.

Needs to last 4 years though
definitely some variety of thinkpad then
as for which, I don't know anything about modern ones anymore ;x still using a t61p

Takes this as you wish, but I flip MacBooks on Craigslist for beer money and you can pick up a nice i5 model for around $700 - $800. The resale value of these is ridiculous, it'll last you 4 years as requested, and I doubt you will even use the full power.
It's an idea.

Also if you can't or don't want to run OSX, you can always use bootcamp.
I know this sounds ridiculous, but can I just install stuff into the D: drive without any consequences on my new laptop? On my desktop I've only installed one HDD before and didn't partition it. The new ASUS laptop has only one physical HDD but for some reason there are two drives in Computer. One (C:) is labeled OS and the D: is labeled DATA. Say I wanted to put in iTunes or my Steam in D: drive since it is larger, is there any loops I have to go through or just put the destination folder in it when I install those programs?
You can put your music files anywhere you want and drag them into iTunes (you should use foobar) and be fine.
You can create a secondary steam library on your opposite HDD.

Oh sweet. And I'm assuming since I already put Steam on my C: drive I can't just cut and copy the program files into D: drive right.

No you can't.
For the secondary library, go to Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders
It's pretty straightforward, then when you install any game you can pick what folder it goes into

you could mklink the folders, bit tedious though.

$500 laptop now, $500 laptop in 2 years.
So I'm fucking around with stuff on PCPartPicker and it's got me wondering if it's worth getting both an SSD and an HDD. I've currently got a 300GB drive in this PC and I'm only using a fifth of it with only a couple games. I was thinking possibly a 60GB (or 120GB) SSD and a 500GB or 1TB HDD for games/movies/allsorts.
Does that sound alright to you guys? I'd probably be installing and playing more games on this new rig since y'know, I can actually fucking play them now :v: (plus I'll probably be able to afford it only by next year so SSD prices'll have dropped some by then).

I believe many people do it this way, including me, using the SSD just to boost the OS performance.

Don't cheap out on your SSD, 60GB is a lot smaller than you think after formatting and Windows. My 90GB is 83.8GB and I try to keep at least 20GB free for the speed, I wish i would have gone with a 120 or 128.
But definitely go for an SSD, who knows how much better and cheaper they'll be in a year?

Hell yea, I just got a 256 like 5 days ago and I only have 80gb left. Windows 8 took like 25gb. I used to have a 60gb drive, and it was awful.
I think I'll be fine with 120 in that case.
how fingerprinty is the black corsiar k70
how fingerprinty is the black corsiar k70
Huh?
how fingerprinty is the black corsiar k70
Pretty sure it's matte, so I don't think you'll have a problem.

go rub your hands on the front of a corsair 800D.
it gets messy FAST

I have K70, I don't even know where it should get fingerprints. The texture is really lovely, and I love the textured ones for WASD for games that use WASD. <3
isn't it made out of black anodized aluminum?
the front of the corsair 800D is black anodized aluminum and i was worried if the k70 uses the exact same easy-to-get-messy materials.
or are you using the silver k70?

Black. And I don't know where it should get fingerprints really.
Besides, even if you tried to fake fingerprints you wouldn't be able to see it, it's really dark.
Hey, so forgive me if this isn't the right place, but I have a quick question for y'all. It's way below your internet-pay-grade, but Facepunch helped me build my computer many moons ago, so I felt it was only right to call upon you again. Feel free to ignore me if it's just too stupid a question.
The basic question is, how does my computer stack up against a PS4? I want to stay competitive with the next-gen consoles so that I can play cross-platform releases decently.
This is my PC:

NOT INCLUDED IN IMAGE: My GPU is a GeForce GTX 560 Ti.
This is a PS4:

Am I screwed, and if so, how many dollars would I need to spend (and on what aspects of my system) to become un-screwed?
I imagine you will have to upgrade the GPU. maybe get a 8** when they come out.
CPU should be fine, next gen console's CPU cores are pretty weak.
Whats the GPU?
Added. Meant to preview, posted it instead. Think it's complete now.
Is it possible, in this day and age, to get a laptop capable of running crysis for $300 or under? Possibly a used one?

Really? 560 Ti should be comparable to PS4
