So today I stated up my laptop, everything worked as normal until I tried to write my password. The keyboard is acting up, and if I try to boot it does a long ass beep, then takes me to Windows Recovery Mode or some shit like that. What should I do? I'm suspecting the dust under the keyboard might be the cause
So I'm about to set up my own person internet connection, and I need recommendations for a router. I have no idea what any of the specs on the routers in the OP mean but I have wireless GBN in my computer and it will only have to go a meter or so, and I can get a meter long cable very easily if need be. I'll be getting ADSL, how much should I be looking at spending? I'd like to have wifi for my phone but its not super necessary. I'll be the only one using it 99.99% of the time. According to the ISP site (Bigpond Australia) ADSL 2 is their elite speed plans whereas ADSL is their turbo plans, when I search for availability it only gives me elite plans so I guess I'm adsl2. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php..._1439&vk_sort=1 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php...&cPath=200_1438 Thats pretty much my selection of routers, that site is kinda like Australias Newegg as far as I can tell. I'm willing to spend whatever but I'd prefer it to be as cheap as possible without compromising on stuff I'll need. Will I need a modem too? I'm not sure.
Typically, your ISP will supply a modem, or you can buy one from them. You've got to buy a router... If you're not looking for ridiculous bandwidth, the new Airport Expresses ($99USD) do 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with reasonable throughputs. Also, they're stable, and if you ever upgrade, you can use them to play your music to speakers wirelessly.
Hey buds, so my PC decided to shut off out of the blue earlier tonight, and it is refusing to boot back up; I'm pressing the power button and its not doing a damn thing. I can see its still supplying power to the motherboard because I can see an LED is still on inside but aside from that I can't see any signs of life. Before this it would take the thing a good 5-10 mins to warm up before being able to bout if disconnected from power, which in itself seemed weird and might have been a precursor to what just happened. How likely is the problem to be down to the PSU? And if so what's a cheap model that could power my current system (C2D e6750 and 8800gt)? Or if it is more likely to be something else what could out possibly be? I don't really want to pump more money into this than I want to since I'll finally be getting a new rig in 6 months. I'll try it in the morning and crack it open if it still refuses to boot.
make sure the 4pin atx power cable hasn't came unplugged.
So I've got some buzzing in my microphone when I play games. The frequency seems directly related to my framerate. It bugs my friends over Raidcall. Any idea what I can do to fix it?

After that it will be upgraded to 1gb/s internet which will be fucking insane, but Labor need to win the election for that and it will be a few years before I see gigabit speeds. [editline]26th August 2013[/editline] Also I forgot to get rid of the OP mentions when I copy pasted that from SA, my bad :v
I'm looking for a secondary cheap laptop $200-400 for college purposes. The Samsung Chromebook Series 3 looks like something I could use. Any thoughts on it?
FUCK FUCK FUCK Its the night before school starts and my school laptop has stopped working. It wouldnt connect to my wireless and kept cycling between connecting and discovering, so I fucked around with the network settings and no change. I plugged it into an ethernet cable and it got stuck at "unknown network" with no connection. I tried to restart the computer and it got froze at shutting down and bluescreened. Started back up and still nothing.

The LAN port isn't gigabit, though, so that may be a concern.
I hope this is the right place but some people in my family have been paying about $50 or so a year for Webroot Anti-Virus. I honestly don't know much about anti-viruses so I'm asking here: is there any point to have them continue paying or should I just tell them to get MSE? From what I've seen with Webroot, it tends to go fucking nuts over everything. I personally think just sticking to MalwareBytes and MSE would be best but I'd prefer opinions from more experienced people here.
MSE + MBAM is pretty much the best thing to go for.
I almost think those anti viruses are built to go nuts over everything... Think about it, what's someone more likely to trust? A program that never shows any alerts (MSE on a healthy system), or a program that throws a ton of warnings? With the latter, you can be sure it's "working", even if it's screwing your pc.
Looking into getting a new monitor. Found the Dell S2740L and think it looks pretty good for my needs and shit. Is there any other monitor in that price segment that is equal or even better than the Dell S2740L?
I'm thinking it's time to reinstall Windows. While I'm at it, I'm considering moving to Windows 8. I've used it quite a bit before during previews and I wound up quite liking it. My question is, is Windows 8 Pro worth the extra money? Because judging by this, there are no features that Windows 8 Pro carries that I neither use nor don't otherwise already defer to third party software.
I'm looking for a Ultrabook for my Girlfriend for College use. It needs to be around the $500-$600 range. Any suggestions? 13.3"/14" Screen, Good battery life are the main things
I went onto youtube today and all of my subscriptions are gone. Apperently my brother went onto my computer today and some popup came up on youtube and asked something about linking my Youtube and google+ or something. Now I have no subscriptions and I can't go into video manager. Okay I clicked random series of links got it back to normal...
Yeah I linked my account and thought I lost all my subscriptions too. For some reason, it makes a whole new account. You can switch between them, it seems to remember most of the time but keeps asking me every few days. How do I get it to stop asking me? Can I delete the one that was made when I linked my g+?
Hello, I had my computer checked up at a hardware store because it had some problems with fans a few weeks back up to month, and today I got a new graphics card for it in mail which is AMD Ati Raden 6970 I think. It came with just the graphics card, nothing else. My old was nvidia gtx 570. I'm not even sure where I download the latest drivers for this, so this is the first question. Anyone? Anyway, wired the machine up with the new graphics card, and it worked, but there's still some faults which the PC store claimed were fixed. So first of all the graphics was busted and I got a new so nothing there, but the CPU-Fan was not working so they replaced and it works now, but now also two of my Case-fans are not working anymore. I am not even sure if PSU-Fan is working.. hopefully, but GPU and CPU-Fans work. Pretty messed up, is there not enough electricity for all those fans and everything or wtf?

Seasonic / Corsair is a good idea Also, isn't 570->6970 a (slight) downgrade?
I didn't know what they would send me, they just asked if AMD would be okay and that it would be better than my gtx 570 to which I said sure. I also meant to ask before anything that, is this 6970 even worth a damn? As for the PSU, mine is a Corsair. Corsair AX 750W. I'm not sure if its even blowing any air.. pretty quiet computer, but the CPU and GPU fans are working.
Guys, what's better, a 660ti or a 760?
760
What about a 7870 and the 760?
The 6970 is about the same with updated drivers
Yeah it appears so. Anyway, I actually got all of my fans to work inside the PC because there were some wiring-issues, so the problem doesn't seem to be neither mobo nor PSU. But, JUST like before with the older gtx 570, this 6970 is heating up quite a bit as well. Also the screen going black for a second -bug has made its return, even with the new graphics card. Fucking yay. What do ya think?

Anyone here have the Steelseries 3GC controller? I have no clue how to map the buttons out for games because it doesn't run on the Xbox controller drivers. Any help would be appreciated.
So... I'm looking at getting a new iMac once next year's scholarship check comes in. (My school gives out money for being a Journalism student... And I can't say no to free money.) However, the fact that they only offer 600M series graphics cards kind of worries me. I'd like to continue feeding my PC gaming habit, especially with X-Rebirth coming out this year, and I want to know what kind of performance I'd get on, say, a 660M or 680M GPU compared to my current 560Ti setup. I really do miss when they shipped iMacs with discrete graphics cards, but... Thinness is more important, I guess?

It's not "blazing fast" but it runs Crysis on Very High at 1080p. It's probably equivalent to a 560Ti. Similarly, the 680M is basically a 670 with an underclock (closer to 25% IIRC). As for why they do it, it's not the thickness of the card they're concerned with, but the heat. Those 20% underclocks turn into 60% decreases in power consumption and heat, so they can manage with a much smaller heatsink and fans. Which yes, is mainly for a thinner system.
So my current sound setup is this PC -> HI-FI -> Grado headphones Now I checked if the HI-FI wire could reach to where my new sound card will go in a few days and it doesn't seem long enough. Would cutting out the HI-FI have any effect on sound quality? The Sound Card I'm getting is a Asus Xonar DGX by the way.
what's a "HI-FI" wire
