you just twist it, the threading might be off a little or something
is it not starting or is it like not going in all the way? all I can think of is to screw it in on the other side of the case to fix the thread
For the past day or 2 I've been having problems when I hover over things in Windows. For instance... Whenever I hover over stuff in Vmware... it just lags like hell constantly switching between the finger pointer and arrow pointer.
Really? I've seen a lot of threads where people say "Use a spare graphics card solely for Physx so you don't have to put Physx on main graphis card"
Back in the day, it was worth it. But if you're running any recent NVIDIA gpu, it's not worth it at all, since PhysX has evolved. Dedicating a card to it is just silly unless you're running AMD as a primary card.
Can Bsod be caused by old/faulty HDD?
hey, does anyone know if there is a solution for graphical artifacts in openGL games for AMD cards in linux?

Assuming you've updated drivers etc, I'd try downclocking your GPU slightly.
Can Bsod be caused by old/faulty HDD?
yes, if the HDD screws up when Windows is trying to load a critical file.
Generally you'll get higher-level failures alongside when that happens though, things like applications failing to start and what not
Would it be ok to leave one standoff unscrewed?
The top left one is driving me insane, I have been trying to put it on the case the whole day without success.
Hey all,
I got a discussion with a friend about overclocking. my friend is convinced the clock of a cpu/gpu is the biggest factor for the temperature. I personally tought the voltage was. How far does the clock affect the temp?
Thx in advance!

Overclocking often involves increasing the voltage, so it's not just clock speed that increases
Hey all,

Well, the clock speed directly affects the resistance of the processor. Increasing that while keeping voltage constant affects the total power draw linearly as well (first use Ohm's Law, I=V/R to get the change in current, then plug into the power formula P=IV to get the power change). And, of course, the two factors involved in temperature are the amount of power consumed by the processor, and the efficacy of any cooling elements.
Voltage increases exponentially - by the square. Using the same equations, keeping constant resistance (ie. constant clock), you see that increasing the voltage also increases the current. Thus when you get to the power formula, you get increases in both current and voltage, thus exponential increase.
Now, that did simplify things. For one, temperature also increases resistance, so it's more power-efficient to keep your cores cool. And, of course, you generally must increase voltage when increasing clocks in order to keep things stable.
So yes, in general, voltage is the more significant factor in power consumption. This is not always true (it's possible that, if the voltage is low enough and the clock speed high enough, the clock speed is in fact the dominant factor, but I don't know of any processors where that would be the case).
Is an 840 EVO as good as I can get or is there a similar performing SSD for about the same price? (about £75)

If it's spinning loosely, you may have damaged the threads on the case. I've done it once, as long you have the rest of the standoffs securely in place it will be fine. I'd put it as far down as it would go, install the motherboard and CAREFULLY hold the standoff in place with some needle nose pliers or tweezers while tightening the screw. This way the motherboard will still be elevated from the bottom of the case and won't bend if there's any pressure on it.
Ok networking gurus, here's one for you
I built my buddy a gaming PC last year, his room is too far from the router to go wired, so he bought a USB wireless adapter. It's worked fine until a few weeks ago. Now the download speeds are drastically low, between 128-256KB/s, while his upload is around 2.6MB/s. His laptop gets the full 20 down/4 up just fine.

I thought it might be the wireless adapter (Linksys AE1200) so I replaced it with my Netgear WNA1100 but nothing changed. Ping is also really bad.

I don't think it's the router, because none of the other computers have problems. Is there anything I should be trying on the computer?
specs:
i5-3570k @4.5GHz
8GB DDR3-1333
Radeon 7870 2GB
500GB HDD
Windows 7 x64

I guess, put some sticky foam or at least tape where it would go

Does the laptop in the same location get decent speeds? I had an issue where wifi didn't work at my desk because one of my monitors was putting out interference for some reason. Maybe try a USB extender?
I've also heard some USB 3.0 chipsets will put out a lot of interference.

Tape it? But there will be like 5 cm (I'm bad with measures) between the case and the motherboard because of the standoffs.
Also, I was about to install the motherboard when I noticed:

There is no space for the ports of the video card and wireless adapter on the case.
Help? Please?
So when listening to music/playing a game/whatever else on my computer, the maximum volume of my headphones is... unsatisfactory. It's too quiet. I always figured it was just the headphones, that they couldn't go any louder. Then, for whatever reason, I plugged them into my old Iphone (3, i think) and it was about twice as loud.
A quick google search hinted that it may just be my soundcard, is that the case or is it something else?
Oh yeah, I'm currently putting them in the case right now.
Also, how many fans should my build have? Currently it as a frontal fan and a CPU heatsink.
The case is Cooler Master, and from I've heard, they dont need too many fans.
Just some uh, side case fans? Should be fine with one, unless you mine bitcoins or something... typically components cool themselves fairly well and just need a little exhaust. I have a computer sitting in a corner wedged between furniture, or once had an old computer with dell-ingenuity designed case reinforced plastic/metal and one little exhaust port in the back. It was a nice case though, had removable drive bays and a PSU 'bay' with a flip-top side. Whatever /random
I don't overclock.
Ah I didn't read Shadaez post.
Tape it? But there will be like 5 cm (I'm bad with measures) between the case and the motherboard because of the standoffs.
One case I had was missing 3 or so stand-offs. A little half-assed, but evenly distributed stand-offs made it alright for a while, with only weakness in unimportant areas.

you can take those out, they're probably just held on by a thin piece of metal, you can just wiggle it till it breaks off

what headphones? and yeah it's the soundcard most likely, unless you've got some setting limiting it (kinda doubtful).
Should I turn 'Headphone Virtualisation' on?

Personal preference, I'd say no.
Would it be ok to put a standoff into the case using glue or something?
The one I need to paste is the one that makes the HDMI/audio ports be at the height of the hole in the case where they go out.

Is there not a hole for the standoff in your case?
Is there not a hole for the standoff in your case?
There is, but it seems like the last hole I need to put a standoff in doesnt work. I tried for a whole day without success. All the other 5 standoffs are screwed correctly.
Something just doesn't seem right. And if you glued it, it would be too tall. You would have to cut off the threads.
Well, what do you propose?
I tried installing the motherboard without that standoff, but the upper left corner of the motherboard, without the standoff, is lower than where its supposed to be.
If there truly isn't a hole, I personally would drill and tap the hole so I could use the standoff. Dunno if you have the tools for that or not.
The problem is that there is a hole for the standoff, but I cant put the standoff there correctly.
But I correctly screwed all the other standoffs, so it must be the hole itself that is causing the problem.
EDIT: I DID IT!!!!
There was a plastic thing that made the standoff had a normal screw X, but I have tried using it before without success.
But I tried again and it worked!!
So happy!!!
EDIT 2: I removed the graphic card and the wireless adapter to screw the standoffs.

-Is the fan direction right?
-I need to screw the top left hole, but its in the corner between the case and the heatsink. Do I really need to put it?
Is there any way to achieve the effect of plugging a male to male audio jack from my line out into my microphone port from software? Preferably just some sort of media player that can playback as mic?
