ah thanks. i showed my dad the one I put on and he almost barfed. he's turning out to be a real good pain in the ass though. he's so ignorant and he knows practically nothing about computer today, rambling on about 5 year old technology that came with his old Dell. he's even a bigger dellfag than I thought
You have my permission to slap him.
You have my permission to slap him.
thank you sir. i just facepalmed myself in front of him for like 10 seconds

But it is your God given duty to convert your own father from which his semen you were able to spawn. You musn't let him waste his money. There is no alternative. [editline]08:40PM[/editline] Or you could at least have him get a nice pre-built instead of a shit Dell. Give me the full specs of his custom Dell and I guarantee I will beat it with a matching price or possibly cheaper. Scouts honor.

Honestly, if he wants to get the Dell let him. It's his money let him do what he wishes with it?
Honestly, if he wants to get the Dell let him. It's his money let him do what he wishes with it?
It is a waste. Don't listen to that ^ guy.
how's this guys: http://secure.newegg.ca/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=12298525 my attempt at a custom build to defeat his dell prowess Also, dumb question here (I expect some dumbs probably): does a DVD Burner also read media or does it just burn?

Also then you could get a nicer case. Like this http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119216
I'm sure your dad would be happy as long as he can get done what he needs on the system. Also yes, the DVD burner also reads media.
oh, great spot! i'll update the thread with new specs. in a sec alright, take a look at it now!
Add the HAF 922, the 690 II, or even... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119187 SHA-BAM. The Cooler Master ATCS.
Get out.
I was referring to either the Dell or the custom build. If he chooses to go Dell and it serves him well then that's fine and you shouldn't care, the same is said for the custom build, none of my business though so what do i care. No harm meant.

Wasting money never sounds okay. Especially in our day and age. I'm not meaning to be rude or mean to you, I'm just saying that you need to come at this from a different angle. His Dad can get so much more for that money. We're just preventing him from getting ripped off, yet make it so that he will still be very satisfied with his purchase. No hard feelings.
My dad is thoroughly happy with the build except for the Xeon. He seems to think it's not made for home-purpose computing compared to an i7. Anybody would like to give an explanation that stumps his arguments?

Also it is binned higher so it runs cooler and overclocks better.

It just has a lower clock, and if that bugs him you can easily overclock it to speeds equal to or faster than a core i7 920. The only difference between the two is the price (Xeon is cheaper) and the core clock, which really doesn't matter because it overclocks better. [editline]11:42PM[/editline] ^That too. :3:
Alright, so here's the final build: http://secure.newegg.ca/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=12298525 He has to think about it, but you guys have done a great job and I thank you all :) [editline]07:44PM[/editline] If I were buying a computer however, I'd snatch it up in an instant..
He doesn't have to game with the keyboard and mouse. They're just nicer than standard use ones. One sec. I'll find ya some 500GB HDDs.
Gaming keyboards are terrible. You want a mechanical keyboard if you're mostly typing. Pick up something like a Unicomp Model M also, my vote on the hard drives is quad 250 GB RE3's in RAID 0+1

Also, no temperature monitor on the X3440? Sadface.
