Oddly enough, a package I got yesterday arrived late too. The guy who delivered it just wanted to complain about the map of my apartment complex, like I don't disagree but give me my package.
It had been scheduled for delivery before 8pm but got here at like 8:45. Last time I got a package scheduled for delivery before 8pm it showed up at 10:30am :v:

For just a few dollars more...
No... thats about $100 more.
Believe me I considered it. But it was $30 for %100 increase over her current CPU, and $130 for %130
GF's computer finally got so fucking problematic that we just went out yesterday and bought a ryzen 1600, gigabyte gaming 3 mobo, and 8gb ddr4 to just gut the bitch and retry.
It was either the mobo, the processor, or something ram related. Any one of those three failing means money spent replacing parts so we just bit the bullet and upgraded.
Although, at first she was going to get the 1400. Then we saw $20 more got the 1500x. Then halfway home we saw another $10 got the 1600, so we turned around and exchanged for it.
I'd stick another 8GB in there if you're planning on playing triple A games released after 2017 if I were you.

Is there any reason to go with that r7 1700x over a 1600x, even with the 17x under $300(before taxes :( )?
I think I'll still go with a 1600x over the 1700x
I bought a Galaxy S8+ last week

I'd get an S8, but I can't see myself living with their OS stuff. And not in the mood to put a vanilla OS on it myself. I love vanilla Android.
The s8 is pretty vanilla as is
There's just a few things left that I still need root for. Maybe some day I'll be able to buy a US Samsung device.
I didn't realize the S8 was so new, thought it was from last year around the Pixel launch.
The s8 is pretty vanilla as is
It's not using Touchwiz?
It is, but they've toned it way down.
Coworker got an S8 to replace his S6 on monday, we all agree the curved screen is dumb. He immediately disabled the edge swiping and bixby pullshit too.
The edge stuff doesn't bother me, and Bixby is pretty much just Google now, but easier to get to.
Try installing Windows 10 on it on a different pc
I don't have any other computer to install it on.. and I kinda want to keep my Thinkpad and my mom's old ass Sony Vaio on Windows 7.
With how many issues you're encountering with this computer I'm inclined to believe you forgot to exorcise it first.
It's a really old desktop build with a first-gen Intel Core i5, 4GB of RAM and no USB 3 ports. I don't think my dad really wants to get a new desktop because for their uses (web browsing, document creation, watching media) it works fine.
I ordered an SSD so lets see how that goes. Even though it's a desktop I no longer use what so ever (after getting my computer stuff), it's still my problem to fix. Who knows, maybe with an SSD, there's zero chances of the hard drive dying when someone drops a literal Snowball mic onto the computer case. Or the build is on its dying legs already.
So, tomorrow I am gonna be graduating high school but I just realized I don't have any SD cards left to put into our DSLR. I have 3 microSD ones that don't work and the one that's usually in the camera was forgotten into a laptop that is far away currently.
Guess I have to hope that somebody else takes a few beauty shots of me and I have to remember to buy a nice card for it soon.
How many layers of abstraction are you on?

Do you think it's wise to order a processor in like new condition, but with a damaged box?
Do you think it's wise to order a processor in like new condition, but with a damaged box?
I mean if so long as there's a return policy nothing can go wrong.
It's like a $34 difference in price.
The s8 is pretty vanilla as is
Samsung is one of the worst offenders of shipping a bloated, fucked up custom version of Android. Nexus/Pixel phones are obviously the best in that regard, with LG and Motorola being not too bad.
It's like a $34 difference in price.
Then ask yourself if $34 savings is worth a potential extra wait while you return and re-buy an actually new processor in the event that it's not working.
It's amazon and I've got prime so, I think I'll go with the open box proc
If anyone's been thinking about grabbing a new aftermarket laptop battery off eBay, I've had some pretty sweet success with mine after letting it cycle enough times.
99.5% capacity

Cycle count 28, cell imbalance is within measurement error based on SMAPI data.
I should probably get a replacement battery for my X201T. Current battery wear according to BatteryBar is 48% and I only realistically get an hour of usage while in power saver mode. What's silly is that with Lenovo's battery program, it says the battery health is ~good~.
Honestly, I'd rather get a newer Thinkpad with USB 3 ports (not just one, several). I mentioned this in the past but basically the cooling isn't good on mine. There's a reason why on the next gen version, they removed a chunk of the battery to add an air vent.
tfw you're handed a 5 page spec sheet about all the details of the format a commercial for MTV needs and then when you say you're on Windows so ProRes isn't an option they reply with "ok .mov is fine. thanks."
wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwhat
Well you can always transcode it to the DNxHD equivalent, then transcode it to ProRes as per the spec sheet using a 3rd party program, all within Windows. I guess they feel sorry that you're on PC and will transcode it for you?

That's what I ended up doing. Went to DNxHD 12bit RGB, then went to prores via ffmpeg.
I hate broadcast. Layers upon layers upon layers of backwards compatibility.
Do you think it's wise to order a processor in like new condition, but with a damaged box?
Yes.

It's all because of broadcast standards. They want HD-compatible gear from 10 years ago to still be able to process HD content from today.
Random fact: DNxHD works on Windows and Mac, but places still insist on using ProRes for whatever reason even though both are basically the same thing, but one made by Avid, one made by Apple, while completely ignoring that things outside of Mac OS exist.
Thing is THEY ASKED FOR DNxHD. But only in a mov container. They kept rejecting my file because it was .mxf
Speaking of people buying things (from last page anyway) I picked up a used Surface Pro 2 (256GB/8GB, i5 4300u , OEM charger, purple Type Cover 2, a DP to HDMI adapter, and some silly carbon fiber skin on it) for $270 off of eBay.
It's pretty nice, some little scratches on the bottom of the screen (not really noticable) and the VaporMG coating is scuffed around the edges, whatever.
Battery has most of its original capacity, wear level of 12% according to some battery stat tools which is passable for the age.
Really solid device and I still like this form factor a ton, even if Windows isn't perfect for tablet usage.
Maybe I'll pick up a newer one sometime if this thing ever becomes useless, though the Haswell i5 in this is still pretty good.
Almost got caught in a mail forwarding scam on ebay :ohno:
A guy came in and sniped my GPU at the last minute, turns out he's from Russia.
So that hard drive that wouldn't work anymore in my families home desktop, it's not even a year old so it's time to rma. It's weird tho, disk checking reported no issues. I can benchmark it just fine. But the second it runs an operating system, it lags like shit. It's really weird. I tried a different hard drive, tried to install windows on that and it had the same sort of issue. If I still run into the same sort of issue with the ssd that will eventually arrive tomorrow, then there's some other problem that is in the desktop. Could be the motherboard, PSU, etc.
We were using a projector at school today. Inside the carrying case for it was the projector, its power cable, a VGA cable... and a HDMI to DVI cable with a DVI-I to VGA adapter on the DVI end. :why:
