You can join a server and nickname yourself LordCrypto, unless you don't want us to know your true identity.
But your friends will only know if you're on the FP server under that nickname if they're also on that server. Your profile doesn't show a list of everywhere you are.
that's the point

They just took their integrated chat and added in a bunch of features Skype and Snapchat has to make it a competitor.
I have never heard anyone use their VoIP or video messaging services as stuff like Skype and iMessage/Facetime are well established.

name your discord ********* (or ||||||||||| like the Korean Starcraft pros do) and nickname yourself on both servers :v:
but i'd have to convince new people to use discord
when messenger or snapchat or slack works just fine
coming from irc, discord's nick system is trash
if you want to handle multiple separate identities, it's at minimal, a pain in the butt
Yeah I just use IRC and XMPP. I like it that way. I don't need trendy crap, I want standardised systems that work and are extensible, most prominently, for security.
I'm also on the IRC side but the number of times I've had people say "well, it looks complicated..."
You don't NEED to have a CLI version of the client. There's any number of GUI implemented clients that are literally "set a nickname, set server, set channel, optionally set password. Done."
Yeah I have no problems with IRC, it's just no one is ever on so I cba to log in. Plus there is no logging of conversations when offline so it's not like I can join in the conversation already happening.
Plus I enjoy being able to check on conversations on the go with my phone. That's why this thread is great.
I use the voip through Facebook messenger more than my actual on network cell service
[editline]4th July 2017[/editline]
My roommate pays his half of the rent through messenger too.

clients and servers (inspircd) running in ircv3 can save/fetch offline history
A class 10 32GB MicroSDHC card is cheaper than a class 10 32GB SD card.
Is there any reason why I shouldn't buy the microsd one for my DSLR?

Nope, go for the micro. Get UHS-1 tho.
if a friend of mine even knows what FP is I'm more than happy to let them know my username
they probably wouldn't be here if they didn't share similar interests considering how relatively niche this forum is.
Actually this reminds me I met a friend in college who frequents this thread but I forgot to ask for their username :v:
Yeah my best friend IRL has been on FP for longer than I have.

People have used bouncers for so long to solve that problem that I'm honestly astounded by the fact it wasn't standardized in IRC's protocol much sooner.

Class 10 is quite slow for both stills and videos. You should definitely consider spending more money on some faster cards
People have used bouncers for so long to solve that problem that I'm honestly astounded by the fact it wasn't standardized in IRC's protocol much sooner.
I run a bouncer that uses its own protocol between bouncer and client, seriously fuck the IRC protocol for anything more complicated than passing messages in real time.
The bouncer takes messages, stores them in a database (for me, postgres) and then shows them to you.
Want to look at something written two weeks ago? Scroll up, the client will request the old messages from the server.
As much as I like Discord, it's still in the "free and good" phase where they're trying to build up a large userbase purely on investor's money
It's only a matter of time before it gets sold to some big company so they can figure out how to monetize us (see: Skype, Instagram, Whatsapp, Twitch, YouTube, arguably Twitter which I think still doesn't turn a profit?) and it's all downhill from there

I know plenty of people who are naive and believe that's never gonna happen.
After so many times they still haven't learned that if something's too good to be true, then it most certainly is.
which is why setting up a XMPP server is on my list of "rainy days" projects
What's to say it isn't already a botnet

There's no reason to get under UHS-1 these days IMO, they seem to be about the same price on Amazon anyway.
I'm learning web development for real! No more wordpress or squarespace. I'm building this page from the ground up!

I'd rather commit suicide than create a webpage from the ground up.

I remember when Class10 was like "Must have for video" now it's so ancient since many phones do some sort of Raw, and cameras do 4k now.

My Pixel XL is already dead it seems. Left it on my desk, went to get a drink, when I came back it wouldn't turn on. No screen activity, charging does nothing. Tried some of the methods people mentioned like leaving it plugged in and holding power and volume down and nothing.
I don't want to wait to mail it in, so I might bring it to UBreakIFix which is apparently like an authorized repair shop for google. Idk, just don't want to have to wait to mail it in and be without a phone for a couple weeks.
Edit: Turns out one of my sisters knocked the phone off and put it back on my desk when they were looking for something on my desk. Well screen is perfect, but it has a dent in the frame of it. Bye Warranty.
Huh, found an RX580 stock tracker if anyone wishes to try the flipping lottery :v:
Well I'd probably buy it later this month if I did, but dunno if I should bother with the 4k screen, Would be a luxury, but prob not worth $400. Since I still have some other things I wanna get before PAX. But I can finance it. Already paid off my Ryzen upgrade.
But the XPS would come to like 2400. rip
If it matters, the Thunderbolt 3 port is only half speed.

Two weeks of deliberating and $50 later (plus American Truck Sim and Castle Crashers from the GF, and Slime Rancher bought for her) and I finally decided on this round of Steam sales
In case anyone has a few bucks left and isn't sure what to spend it on, all of these are gonna be good choices
Nier Automata is still 30% off. Highly recommend, even if you haven't played the original Nier.

I've heard it runs like hot garbage on many systems, and still hasn't received any patches whatsoever 4 months after release?
I've heard it runs like hot garbage on many systems, and still hasn't received any patches whatsoever 4 months after release?
It runs fine on most computers; vocal minority and such. Dunno what's up with squeenix and not patching it but there's a community mod that fixes it and can improve performance as well. It's a stable 60 fps on my friend's computer at medium settings with the minimum recommended hardware.
The FAR mod is a lot like DSFix except it's even easier to install and has a nice in-game menu instead of a shitty text file. It's pretty much a non-issue as long as you know the FAR mod exists.
Past the technical issues it's a great, even incredible game in pretty much all aspects.
