Guess who and what. No points for why.
So Linus is finally running out of ideas
Can you guess how well it performed?
To be fair, the CPU kept running above the maximum listed speed, it just wasn't going full turbo.
So Linus is finally running out of ideas
I take it you didn't see the "can you heat pizza with a computer"-video.
If he is out of ideas, I want him to review the rack mounted 13U Mini Fridge in Server Room Upgrade part 4. http://www.canford.co.uk/Products/13-024_CANFORD-FRIDGE-Rackmount-13U-black
Thoughts on this FreeNAS build? It's ordering time as soon as my refund gets in.
The case seems really ricey for a NAS.
Man, I'd love to get another old Mac to dick around with again. I'm such a dumbass for getting rid of my old Powerbook 150 and the SCSI ethernet adapter, that was an awesome machine. I just don't feel like dropping $200 on one.
[shameless_plug] I hear The Hackery sells partial or complete compact mac kits for reasonable prices. Being a canadian company and all, I think you could contact them and get a quote for the machine of your dreams. [/shameless_plug] Also I'd really suggest you kept 7.5 to an SE/30. The SE is basically a glorified Macintosh Plus with a PDS. System 6.0.8 runs fantastic and doesn't tax all of your 4mb of ram.
Probably should have explained case choice. I'm going with a desktop case due to placement requirements. That case specifically because you can put an mATX motherboard in the main spot (for FreeNAS) and you can put an ITX board in the top which will be for my pfsense system.
Oh, that's neat. Thought it was silly to have a case with a window to show off a NAS.

I have an 8GB SD so there's plenty of room for partitions.[/sp] I do want to get an SE/30; I have 32MB of RAM laying around to throw into one. Just waiting for the right price I guess. I should gamble on one being sold as not-working and attempt to repair it.
Spotify is giving Norwegian, Spanish, and Japanese EDM. I like it... just a bit confused.
I've done it!!!! After going through a laundry list of virtualization wizardry I am finally booted into my old, old computer. I don't think it was booted up any time after 2008. I've still got old versions of Steam and Chrome installed on here.
oh my god remember early Combat Arms? I'm surprised the BF Heroes beta isn't in there too. And Google Earth! Those were the days.
I used Google Earth frequently last year for my old job.
oh my god remember early Combat Arms?
I played the beta almost religiously the summer it came out. Good times. Also yeah, I still use Google Earth too, because the historical images tool is great to see what cities looked like 20 years ago.
So Linus is finally running out of ideas
Could have, but I don't think he's built a PC into a fridge yet.
I used Google Earth frequently last year for my old job.
BF Heroes was the first game ruined by microtransactions as far as I can remember. Loved the Beta for the most part, after that it went to shit.

Does anyone have some experience with CAD software? At the moment I'm working on an assignment at school where I have to write a request for proposal about replacing 100 computers in a school. The assignment paper itself describing what to do however is so fucking shallow in details that I have no idea what to do here. So for the 'mechatronics department' they need 'beefier computers' because they use 3D software, that's literally all that's given in the assignment. I also need to pick my own CAD software but I have no idea how that shit works so I have no indication at all about hardware requirements. I've been googling hardware requirements of AutoCAD which I know from the top of my head, but I didn't get a good indication from that either. Anyone who can give me an idea what hardware a school would use if they occasionally work with CAD software? I already asked my English teacher this (who gave us the assignment in question) but since she has even less experience in computers than I do it was vague as fuck too.
I don't know how, but I managed to fuck up my old Windows installation and fucking up installing the new to boot. Just gonna kill myself now

I haven't had a single English teacher that's capable of using computers above power points, emails, and facebook. Just do what my highschool did and run everything on Athlon 64 x2s.

Though if I would write a request for proposal that would mean I'd write it in Dutch, that's the only difference here. But the problem is how all English teachers here don't have decent experience with computers either. The teacher I have been assigned to in the start of the year NEVER fills in our school reports which is in an Excel document, and instead uses a notebook where she draws crooked lines to resemble a table and contains handwriting even worse than mine. The result in this is that the rest of my school report is filled in with the exception of English, which is entirely empty. We also have an entire platform for students to retrieve assignments and upload completed assignments to so the responsible teacher can examine them and grade them where necessary. But my English teacher lets us download them, then wants the finished work sent to her e-mail address. Once she didn't get anything from us and in the next week she was all pissy and complained about it. She didn't receive anything because of a full mailbox which shut her right down.

The integrated gpu will work for a lot of stuff, but it won't be pretty or very smooth. Basically, pick the gpu that fits the budget. My high school's tech lab used Core 2 Quads with a low end AMD card and the software ran pretty slowly. My laptop with a 2720qm and Quadro 3000m was definitely an improvement. For storage, you'll want at least a 500 gig hdd because the software suites with all the material libraries and shit can get enormous. Most universities just grab the newest Dell Optiplex or Precision tower.
