Just got home. Got called into work for a "couple hours" ended up having two managers argue with each other, through me, on a commercial design.
Told them I was clocking out and turning off my phone.
Now I can actually finally put this shit in my computer.
I'm a junior in college majoring in information security. I've been looking into certifications to get a feel for which one would be the best and god damn these things are expensive.
Try going to local hacker/itsec meetups, be social, show them how awesome you are and maybe give a talk yourself
That's at least gonna give you a paid internship and from there onward it either pays for itself or they pay it for you or they might even not care and hire you anyway

Some programs might give you waivers for them, mine actually paid for a few of the more expensive ones.

Meanwhile in Australia the cheapest 1080 is $699 and we can't even buy a ti.

Helifreak was correct
I have some juicy insider intel. PLE were the first to put the 1080ti up for preorder in Australia,
Nvidia contacted them within 20 minutes to take it down. But the press got it first and reported on the price (or nvidia found it from the articles). But this was due to nvidia wanting to be the only place where you could pre-order, problem for us is that you cannot preorder it from nvidia in Australia.
I think nvidia realised this, and retail orders are back up for PLE and are on other sites
Currently up and running after like 4 hours. Ended up gutting the case a bunch. I had so many fans cooling so little. Now I basically just have two fans in the top. When I had like 6 harddrives, two 580's, etc it made sense. But my system is pretty silent now even on the stock cooler. I will be doing some benches once I get stuff installed and then getting my memory setup properly.
Coming back on that discussion, I am aware that he uses that laptop for his college (or more likely to browse Facebook most of the time, but you get what I mean) and I would never do something absolutely malicious that can't be resolved within a few minutes or would completely destroy his OS.
Further expanding that, there a teacher and whenever you are attending one of his classes and one of your classmates leaves his laptop unlocked, you are free to do whatever you want to do to the thing as long as it's not too malicious and doesn't invade personal privacy.

Like going through their facebook.....?
So 2666mhz is the highest I got. I'm on the latest bios. My memory is rated for 15,17,17,35 at 3000mhz. And 2933 gives me 6 beeps which I think is a failed boot or memory issue. Sitting it at 2666 runs fine.
I might loosen timings to see if I can get 3000mhz.
I also did super basic overclocking. Just changed the multi to 35, at 35 I'm at 1515MT in cinebench R15. Also seems that when you just set the multi it locks the clockspeed. System isn't downclocking, and it goes down to like 1.1ghz and gets really low. On idle I think it showed like 14watts.
[editline]11th March 2017[/editline]
I'm now at 3.8ghz, 2666 ram, I hit 1630 on Cinebench. Seems stable. But hoping I can hit 4 when I get my bracket for my NHD15
Today on Premiere Pro being a piece of shit: regular speed playback was randomly set to 2x in mid-edit.
So the ryzen might not hit 5ghz and get kabylake levels of performance in CSGO, but hitting 350fps prettymuch nonstop in Cs Go casual with like 12v12 or whatever is amazing. My 3770k netted me like maybe 95-110. Feels insanely smooth.
And that's while I forgot I was recording in OBS.
Now to do Overwatch.
Guy in my WoW guild bought a 1060 6GB because the game was lagging.
Still had performance problems after installing new GPU. I just now told him to install OpenHardwareMonitor, get a screenshot and put it into Discord.
Spot the problem.

What do you mean I need to clean this thing?
Good fucking lord. Overwatch is completely different. I played a 6v6 QP on Ilios. IT NEVER DROPPED BELOW 180, usually around 260.
Meanwhile my 3770k at nearly 1ghz higher would dip to 55-60. As a mccree main, it's like an entirely new experience.
Just got a .MOV back from the guy. He's got a friend over, they opened up the machine and the friend tested how well the cooler is attached to the CPU.
You won't be able to understand what the guy is saying, but I reckon you'll understand the noise coming from the cooler.

How are you seeing so much of an improvement?
Edit: Also, nice.

It might be partially due to my previous platform being so borked in general. Seeing consistent performance is such a change for me.

Also could you perhaps try to emulate the R5 1500X (4C/8T, 3.5-3.7GHz) and 1600X (6C/8T, 3.6-4.0GHz)? Would be pretty cool to see how they might stack up against the eight core line-up in games. I understand if it's too much work, but I haven't seen this done anywhere else yet, so maybe it'd make a cool video?
That doesn't work like you think, you can't just limit your CPU and pretend to be another one.
For one, thermals will be different so the CPU will just turbo 24/7.
We also have no idea what the cache setup will be like on the lower SKUs.
And I don't know how fine-grained the core-disabling is - can you disable just one core per CCX?
Turns out one of the two mini displayports on my new laptop does not use Nvidia Optimus, which means it's compatible with VR (i7-7700HQ and GTX 1050Ti). I wasn't really counting on it to work and the GPU might be barely cutting it but at least I can take my Vive to my grandparents now to show and not pack my entire desktop :v:
Can you not force Optimus?
Can you not force Optimus?
No, it has to do with latency added and the Intel GPU outputs being limited to 60Hz

The Army is paying for mine.
Probably doesn't help lol
Certs are supposed to be paid for by the employer. Also not really many certs that mean a thing in ITSec.
