my cs prereq chain looks like: intro to programming>data structures>everything else you could possible take at the university i'm so happy we don't have prereq hell
I'm getting my AS at community before transferring. I need CS1, CS2, CS3, Calculus 2, then Physics for Scientists and Engineers 1 and 2. CS classes have (had) a prereq of CIS-1 which is basically intro to using Microsoft Windows/Office. Boring as fuck but I took it, then got CS1 through 3 done. No prob. The real problem is the math roadmap. The highest class you can test into at this college is fucking pre-algebra. So already I have to take pre-algebra>algebra>trigonometry>pre-calc>calc 1>calc 2. That's already five semesters, and there's 3 semesters per year. But it gets worse. Physics for Scientists and Engineers needs Physics 44 which needs pre-calc. So the roadmap for that is pre-algebra>algebra>trigonometry>pre-calc>physics 44>PSE1>PSE2. That's seven semesters, and some of those classes aren't offered during one of the three semesters (the half-length summer semester). Literally impossible to get done in two years unless you get extremely lucky and be one of the ~25 people who manage to get into a half-semester math class. Not to mention some math classes only have a half-semester class in the second half of the semester as if that's any goddamn use to anyone. That's on top of getting GE done. Who the fuck thought this up? Why do I even need physics? It made more sense when I found out that when I entered the college it was the first year they had the CS program. I wish college in this fucking country was actually affordable so I wouldn't have to both work during all this, and be more or less at the mercy of my parent's whims who are helping me pay. If it was up to me I would have gone to the community college a bit further away that has a somewhat more sensible roadmap. The CS classes here aren't even fucking decent CS1 and CS2 were completing a single shitty C++ book I could have done on my own in a week. The CS1 teacher didn't even know C++ before the class he was a BASIC programmer for Shell. I shouldn't have even need CS1 since I took AP Computer Science in high school and passed the AP test, but there was some bullshit with not being able to replace classes needed for the degree with an AP class and also being able to transfer. kill me [editline]7th April 2017[/editline] Also we're short staffed at work so it's been a week since I've had a day where I'm not at either work or school or both and it looks like it's gonna be another two weeks before I get a day off
So I got a dilema I got two places that are head over heels hiring me at the moment, one as a help desk support and another at a state of the art facility as an IT assistant. Help desk is boring but pays more, state of the art studio facility pays less but is a blast to work at (and offers more exposure to various IS stuff). help
Definitely go with the job you think you'll like more. When I got out here I had about 15 interviews in my first 2 weeks and a few offers. Took a job with a fantastic work environment even though it wasn't precisely what I wanted to do and paid a bit less than some of the others but I couldn't be happier.
my cs prereq chain looks like: intro to programming>data structures>everything else you could possible take at the university i'm so happy we don't have prereq hell
same, except the intro to programming classes are the most boringest shit and are taught by the worst professor
rant
This is why you aim for a decent university when you're planning for the future. The quality of education increases substantially as institutional ranking increases, because their primary goal is to produce notable research work instead of milking your money down to the last drop.

Most of the people that call up where I am are competent, don't lie about what they've done and restart the program when you ask them to. Then you have the retail sites that claim they've done stocktake but the system shows they never did the stocktake. Then you find that the stocktake was done but it was done at headoffice instead of backoffice (somehow) and that's why your smokes are at a stock level of -40 again. This guy does it every fucking month and still doesn't get it. Or someone will call up asking why they change the cost of an item, which is only possible via a purchase order (or you're an area manager), then they say "oh we don't use that." I wouldn't have taken this job if it was only support, it's also got a development component which makes it much more tolerable.

And yeah I've pretty much made up my mind, this studio also handles the broadcasts for NASA TV in the region which is pretty bad ass. I'll get to watch SpaceX launches at work :v:
I'm getting my AS at community before transferring...
this is why i didn't bother with an associates
pls don't quote the whole thing you're stretching the page But as a response yeah I wouldn't either but that's another issue of being partly dependant on my parents to help pay; my mom insists on me getting an AS first.
Watching GN's new VR benchmark video: I'm pretty amazed at how far benchmarks have come in the last 7-8 years. Back when I started looking into GPU reviews, all you did was look at averages and call it a day basically. Open up a tomshardware review now and I wouldn't blame you for mistaking it for raw data dump out of the LHC.
So it has occurred to me that this upgrade has not happened without incident. All my work is stored locally on my PC. Normally I try not to centralize like that in favor of the fault tolerant server however since last July it has been down while racking was built and everything was wired in so SyncBack would to the weekly mirror and fail because the network shares were all dead. Because I had to expedite my upgrading the old machine with my data had my drives pulled and was uh.....disposed of. If I mount the old drive on my new systems and try to sync from there if I can get the servers up tomorrow because EVERYTHING about the file attributes and how SyncBack was setup is now different it will immediately try to update every file it can on the server, of not just touch the file to verify they are identical. Because I use RSM that means it's going to take several days cycling ALL of my tapes and rack up a stupid number of hours. I might have to ghetto setup what remains of my old machine again in order to sync my files and not have everything implode. Damn you internet creeps.
this is why i didn't bother with an associates
Yeah I was going for one for a while before they canceled my major, associates are rarely worth it but I found a pretty nice Wide Area Network Technology one that was actually pretty solid and hard. Which is probably why it had low enrollment and got canceled.
Well I was going to make my own thread for this, but I figured I'd post it here first to see if I can sort this out. So recently my PSU fan has stopped spinning, however the computer runs fine still. I only just recently noticed and it could have been like that from anywhere between a few months to maybe even a year, Should I be concerned in any way?

Figured out how to upgrade all the way. Blammo. Windows 10. [editline]asdas[/editline] Does this mean I am allowed to talk about old computers and shit again?

It might be "fine" at idle, but if you're running your computer at full tilt, you'll probably end up with overheating components.
Figured out how to upgrade all the way. Blammo. Windows 10. [editline]asdas[/editline] Does this mean I am allowed to talk about old computers and shit again?
Blammo, PSP
I'm 100% burnt out on my diploma mostly because I'm not being able to get out in the field and have not only fun but also learn as I go. Thinking of dropping it. After 10 years wanting to do something in IT I don't want to anymore. Thinking of switching into Photography or Video editing media.
Both of those might be an easier degree, but it's not like you'll be swimming in work. Sometimes it's tough to get the same kind of regular work you might be expecting. You can always do video work and photo without a degree, I wouldn't switch degrees to something video related. Don't think it's worth it.

[editline]asdas[/editline] Does this mean I am allowed to talk about old computers and shit again?
Nah you must now complain about W10 massively due to how fucking retarded it is in places. For example try cloning a display with a 144hz screen and a 60hz screen, XP, 7 and 8 all does it fine, the 144hz will run at 144hz, the 60hz will run at 60hz. Windows 10? BAH BOTH SCREENS LOCKED TO 60HZ BECAUSE WE KNOW WHATS RIGHT AND WHAT YOU WANT. Only way to "fix" it to is to nuke all the monitor profiles and fucking restart your graphics driver. W10 is a special snowflake in places.
Windows 10 on my desktop computer constantly forgets scrolling position in explorer windows and used to have issues with not opening the Start menu / notification panel but that got fixed in an update. Never saw either issue on anybody else's computer with 10, nor other comps I've owned with 10

Why is IE still not illegal software
I can. But I won't.
Reags avatar should slowly grow more and more over time.
Why is IE still not illegal software
Because enterprise.
Because enterprise.
But that's the exact reason it should be.
