How do you plan on connecting a graphics card to the X220?
Posting this from an X230
ExpressCard -> PCIe x16 adapter.
It's a fairly well documented method though obviously running a GPU over what is essentially a PCIe x1 port is a pretty bad bottleneck.

Vista was crap in the same way Windows 8 was crap - the next iteration was the perfected version of it, so there was absolutely no reason to stay on it.
[sp]Barring privacy and user rights concerns with Windows 10 anyway[/sp]
As much as the whole meme is 'every second windows os'.
If really feels like there's an experiment to try something new and different (and it sucks), then the next version, which has takes its failed attempts and works them into something people are more happy with.
There were many complaints about smartscreen or just protection in vista, but within 7, these were relatively modified and made better in the UX.
Start menu on 8 sucks, on 10 it sucks less, that's if you keep the defaults, up to you.
Same goes for the UWP applications, which actually are usable now for desktop machines.
Vista and 8 feel like those weird phase Operating systems, but without them, I don't think we'd have as much new features as we do now.

I've had every OS since XP, except vista for reference

ME was also shit before XP
Seems my boss logged onto the server that spams the old "You need to format the disk in drive H: before use" dialogues and they are all gone. Shame we have to start all over again on covering the desktop in them.
am i the only one that didn't really have negative experiences with vista?
Depends on when you started using it. Vista RTM was goddamn brutal. SP1 made it a lot more stable, and software/driver adaption has also improved a lot by then.
Vista was okay. My biggest problems with it was some of the UI quirks like the un-reziable environment variable editor
[thumb]http://www.netron.com/images/VistaInstall06.png[/thumb]
Also the update time from a clean install was horrible. Probably just as horrible as Win7 is now to be fair.
the only bad thing about vista, was the fact that i couldn't reset my admin account password.

Despite it's awful launch I still have a soft spot for Vista. It's also the best looking one IMO.
I agree, Windows 7's UI was pretty disgusting, the border around your profile picture on the start menu was horrific.

I have yet to meet someone who thought that was a great design idea

Sure beats the shit out of 8 though. :vomit:

Other than the lack of start menu and some whitespace issues, 8's metro ui is pretty nice. 10 improved upon it though.
Now windows 10 mobile was a mistake when it comes to ui, wp8 beats it hands down.
Say what you must about Vista, I will never touch it.
Post the HiDPI version

I still think Vista has the best iconography, specially in HiDPI, Windows Mobile 6.5 looks absolutely stunning
takes me back to the days when designers actually had to bother. That slight skeuomorphism everything had was nice.
...and now y'all got me missing desktop gadgets. I loved my Google Desktop sidebar, which I settled for after weeks of fiddling with Yahoo! Widgets.
I think I have like the worst-best home audio system. At least it is DIY.
I built a "boombox" a while ago, car radio, car speakers. I only had left channel, so I raided an old home-centre audio system to easily add more channels and used the home audio speakers on desk, 3" bookshelf ones or something like that.
Now I have a PSU powering a car subwoofer amp and right now I put the sub under the bed.
the sub is also DIY, did the mightycarmods tire-sub thing. Had a 10" woofer that I pulled from Chrysler Voyagers front doors.. I have no idea why somebody would even put them there but I got some nice elements from there.

The real crime is that you bought a limited edition of Windows

I see nothing wrong with buying Premiere Editions. The packaging even looks cooler.
Bam, built my own Win 7 ISO using the update rollup and the Skylake USB3 patch. So I guess that's pretty much Windows 7 SP2.

One of these days I should get one, just to have a small machine I can do shit with while I'm working on my main system.

It's for when you need to recover the recovery partition for your recovery partition's recovery partition.
It's like someone saw Android's new update mechanism where you have two /system partitions, you update the other one and then boot into it the next time the device is reset, and someone decided they want that except better.

Mirrored RAID6 recovery partitions to ensure you can reinstall Windows with all the best bloatware.
[editline]11th April 2017[/editline]
Also it's probably just multiple reinstalls and no one ever cleared the old partitions out.
Probably why the kid dropped off the computer for me to do it for him. Whatever, free money for me.
welp i got fucked. After waiting 15 days for what should have been 3 day delivery, my monitor arrived and it's missing the stand (which isn't an issue because it's going on a dual monitor stand), and the power cable/brick, which is an issue because it's some weird LG shit that's going to be impossible to find.
Well got offered the job for the TV studio I was talking about. They want me to help upgrade all of the TV vans and trucks when I start, then deploy some new servers sometime down the road, gonna be a fun time
