In my mind if both the motherboard and CPU are replaced, it's a new computer. I could even stretch it and say it's completely dependent on the motherboard.
Personally having a laptop screen be 4K while my desktop is only 1080p just seems plain wrong to me.
You can get 4K displays on your phone!
You can get 4K displays on your phone!
Just because you can doesn't mean you should :v:
Can you even seen the difference between 1080 and 4k on a screen that small. Keeping it right in front of your eye doesn't count.
I have a 1440p LG G5 and it is nice for Cardboard VR but I severely doubt going to 4k would have any benefit other than VR.
In my mind if both the motherboard and CPU are replaced, it's a new computer.
You can get 4K displays on your phone!
May not make any difference at that point, but its probably a damn sight better than my current 720p display on my current phone.

1440p at 5.5" is so good, everything is sharp as fuck without the extra battery drain of 4k.
IUnrelated, I have a server here I am loading up to run nothing but virtual machines of various systems I can't be assed to track down and setup just for some obsolete network services. Suggest me a good VM engine.
Hyper-V if Windows, KVM if Linux.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-Mac-Mini-Air-Edition-Desktop-Computer-2011-2012-1-Yr-Warranty-SSD-/162432706441?hash=item25d1be6789:g:EakAAOSwc-tY7pX2 Something tells me this actually isn't an Apple sanctioned product.
Totally not a macbook air with a lid delete, nothing to see here! We use a haswell laptop like this in the shop to book computers in. Other than the lack of USB ports it's :ok:
My PC is down to just the case, the dvd drive and the keyboard. I changed the windows licence a few days ago so it's just those (although that was an upgrade rather than a clean install). Come probably the next generation of intel cpus and it'll have had 3 cpus, 3 gpus and 3 motherboards, but it still has the same name and I think of it as the same pc.
Does the X230 have the secondary internal battery the X240+ do? Might jump in on that delicious ThinkLight train.
No it doesn't but the X230 does have an Expresscard slot, 1 USB 2 port, has the older gen TrackPoint and Trackpad. The X240 doesn't in the attempt to be thinner and lighter.

This means not only a max of 8GB vs 16 of the X230 but also means it runs in single-channel.

The horrendous clickpad does though

RIP muh physical left/scroll/right click buttons In the X240 [t]https://www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/_processed_/csm_50_Kopie_bb6405c9c8.jpg[/t] In the X230 [t]http://www.technologyguide.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/65153.jpg[/t] However it did come back in the X250 and later updates [t]https://www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/Notebooks/Lenovo/ThinkPad_X250-20CLS06D00/touchpad.jpg[/t]
Oh, my e5250's running kinda hot. I guess the thermal paste has gone awry after a few years. Just need to get the bottom cover off to get the heatsink- JUST
Hyper-V if Windows, KVM if Linux.
Nah, ESXI all the way
Just burn synaptics down to the ground, they've gone unpunished for far too long

... Second antenna on my router was misaligned, causing shit wireless performance. Put it in the correct position, suddenly getting full ADSL2+ downlink speed on my laptop when downloading package updates.
Hyper-V if Windows, KVM if Linux.
You are forgetting who I am. I can't run Hyper-V because the server is only 32-bit. I seemingly can't even run a VM just to load OpenGenera because that seems to demand at the very least 64-bit Linux.
Now I wanna buy a cheap thinkpad like next month so I can use it to manage my twitch stream easier without having to alttab. [editline]30th April 2017[/editline] Also apparently I can do Ipv6 with comcast, just need to enable it on my router? Should I?
Well there's very little use for it atm but you should def do it. The faster we adopt it the better
Does that typically make it ipv6 internally on the internal network? Do I need to redo printers n shit But IPv6 also removes the need for a NAT right? Like all computers in the network get their own public IP due to how massive the ipv6 table is or something? Don't wanna cause problems for everyone else
As long as your router isnt retarded turning on ipv6 wont turn off v4 or even touch its config
Since you aren't even running it on original hardware any more why not just upgrade to a core 2 duo or something that supports 64 bit?
You know what? I think I will. There should still be a nasty server or two at the makerspace I can run off with. They do need 3.5" SAS drives though.
Just saw Guardians of the Galaxy 2. First time I feel like they have went a bit more out with the soundtrack and you can actually remember a bit of it after you leave the cinema. The "Showtime, A-Holes" is the first Marvel movie theme that has actually been stuck in my head. Every frame a painting even did a video about how Marvel has been playing really safe otherwise.
For some reason, the best way to print something to my printer (even on my local network) is to send it over Google Cloud Print. Trying to locally print it sometimes doesn't work because the printer is in Sleep mode (which for some stupid reason, I can't turn off). At the end of troubleshooting, the only other way to fix the issue when it happens is to either turn off/on the printer, turn off/on the computer to redetect the damn local printer, or just use Google Cloud Print which magically works 100% of the time..
the adventures of my network project continue: we have static IPs assigned to us in the networking room, but that makes it difficult to work on it elsewhere because we're assigned 172.x.x.x, but my house uses class A. so my solution is to have a second pfsense box that sits in front of my project router and lets me continue to use my static IP while NATing it out i'm a pro networking specialist
