One of my 8gb RAM modules was fried for some reason but Crucial was happy to replace it. I think this is probably a warning to replace my 8 year old PSU though [editline]1st May 2017[/editline] Is there anything other than wattage I should look out for with PSUs?

Someone was actually paid to do this. Lets name off all the photoshop crimes. Like, you shouldn't be making it transparent at all.
Maybe the camera can detect and capture malicious ghosts.

Opened up my X220 to see if I could just solder some wires to the BIOS EEPROM, ExpressCard slot is a bit too close to make me bother doing that. I have a clip coming sometime this month that'll just clip onto the EEPROM, guess I'll wait for that... Easiest disassembly and assembly of a laptop I've had in a while, I have to say.
A question for the ThinkPad x230 users here: I'm planning on buying the thinkpad for my CS uni studies, what daily battery life could I expect, if I bought a used x230 and replaced the battery, also it'd be great if you could provide general tips and remarks about the daily usage of the x230
What's the cheapest kind of laptop that has a 1080p display, enough memory to have multiple things open, possibly capable of playing older games at low-medium settings and preferably has non-awful battery life?
I'm completely new to this coreboot stuff, how could i get it working on my elitebook 2570p with windows 10? I have a tl866 programmer with the proper clip.

Sounds like this will be a volume-based license for education institutions and OEMs for cheap laptops. What sounds backwards is that Microsoft is suggesting education institutions that have Windows 10 Pro on their computers a downgrade to Windows 10 S, which from what I can find right now has no proper domain join or folder redirection options that most institutions will use.
Surface Laptop starts at 999 with Windows 10 S :v:
Sounds like a deal honestly for the specs, and an extra $50 for the Pro license. That product is an answer to the Macbook Air. My statement was more of in reference to Microsoft trying to fight the ChromeOS adoption rate for cheaper laptops.
Sounds like a deal honestly for the specs.
Not if it only runs fucking App Store programs.

I was able to squeeze 4 hours out of Manjaro Linux back when I was running that, as Linux has the best control over performance and battery life stuff out of the three. You can probably expect slightly better battery life than me as the X230's processor is one generation newer. That said, now that there are decent Windows laptops for $200, there's not much reason to get a Chromebook anymore, especially since you can more easily slap Linux on a Windows laptop than some Chromebooks.

Did they actually pay list price for THAT MUCH RED gear? Holy shit. The reason the markup is so high is not to get you to actually pay that, It's to drive you to contact them to haggle over it. YOU DON'T PAY LIST PRICE. YOU CONTACT THEM AND ORGANISE THE PRICE. THIS IS ENTERPRISE EQUIPMENT 101.
Well if you set a price too high so smart people can haggle it down, you do it under the assumption and hope someone will either be too in a hurry or too stupid to bother with haggling I guess RED got their payday.

It's the absolute first thing you learn about enterprise and enterprise-style ordering.

600W (with 40A on the 12V rail) should be fine for a Ryzen 5/GTX 1060 build ya? I have one laying around and I'd rather use that than buy a new one.
Maybe he just wanted to drop it
Six months ago I was loaned a PMW-EX3. Left it on the roof when I drove away. The guy who loaned it out said it was okay because it was one of his shitty cameras and not one of his Reds. Still don't know if I should be relieved or offended.
This story must be shared. Context: I've been working part-time to rewrite a system made by a regionally-infamous developer. It's pretty much a ground-up rewrite, because that old system is absolutely horrible. Just how bad is the old system? A user came to us today, and asked if it would be safe to use the plus key on the number pad, since she'd been told never to use any of the "special keys" in the main number row when entering a certain field, but needed to enter a plus sign, and thought maybe it would count as a different key (she does not count as a CIPWTTKT, because she knew that she didn't know, and asked). Turns out, that instead of fixing the massive SQL injection hole in the system, aforementioned developer had trained all the users to only use alpha-numeric characters, which had gotten relayed to later users as "don't use the special characters in the top row" - which actually doesn't even cover the characters that would break, '"\, which on American keyboards are all on the right.
So what did you tell the user?
So what did you tell the user?
"The plus symbol should be fine no matter which key is on, and the new system won't have any of this sort of bullshit."
Woo I got Windows 10 on my work machine! Woo the wireless keyboard works like shit now and constantly cuts out! This post, while brief, is frustrating as hell to type. Technology!
