I mean we didn't get drunk, only had 2 or 3 beers.
What if a problem came up and you couldn't fix it on friday because you were too drunk? Did you just not fix it until moday? :v:
Hope it's your co-worker on call for the weekend, not you.

Ugh I am on call for a quarter of my life at this job. Including my birthday last week.

My girlfriend was on call for her birthday, recently. Had to supervise deploy shit on the day too. I loathe her workplace.

Luckily I got no calls because I ended up getting too high and falling asleep on my living room floor watching Futurama after going out for drinks with friends. We usually only get 2-3 calls a week at busy time, some weeks none at all. And the whole 3 man team is on call at once so I was certainly not primary that day.

Be glad you don't use Biztalk. Or if you do and it doesn't go off multiple every day, be glad it works for you.

I'm so gods damned glad that I'm currently in a position where I'm not on-call. I don't miss it.

Hell no. And yeah, I'm kinda hoping for a position soon where I'm not. Should be making engineer fairly soon which means I'm "available" during on call but I'm not actually answering a call. Either getting promoted or getting a new job so whatever.
How much does being on-call pay?
How much does being on-call pay?
Depends on the job. My girlfriend gets nothing from it, it's just part of the job duties to be put on the on-call rotation. When I was, I was usually the only person qualified to be on call so I was on 24/7. Thankfully it tended to be fairly stable and not large systems so I never got pinged too much. I didn't get paid extra for it. You're lucky if you get paid extra for it, honestly.
How much does being on-call pay?
Yep, nothing.
If you're in a high-level place with some leverage you can usually convince your employer to pay you overtime for when you get pinged. But that's still gonna very likely be an uphill battle.
I mean we didn't get drunk, only had 2 or 3 beers.
One time I went out daydrinking, had about 7-8 Great Divide beers (these are 8-9% beers), got back to the office around 2 and passed the fuck out until it was time to leave.
Nobody noticed. It was amazing. I don't daydrink anymore.
What's with the corsair AXi reviews. Wanted to get an 860 since I think my current PSU is going. But Amazon reviews make it out to be a terribly unreliable unit.

Yeah I mean I get overtime period, with new Colorado labor laws I'm an hourly employee. I just don't get any reimbursement for being on call. The salary guys get comp time.

It's not, it's a great PSU but it's overpriced as hell. There are better EVGA units out there for cheaper.
What about the EVGA P2 or T2? Heard those are SuperFlower designs which are apparently great.
I love the idea of the corsair link for finding system power usage directly instead of looking on my UPS, but I can live without it.
[editline]5th May 2017[/editline]
Ok bought a Evga P2 850W. Got a 9.7 on Johhny so that's good enough for me. I can't spend the time getting the details at work.
You really can't go wrong with either, they both have scores of over 9.0 on jonnyguru. Both the EVGA Superflow series and the AXi series hold perfect 10's with some models even. I've seen a video of someone pulling over 2000w out of an EVGA T2 1600w without it missing a beat.

Damn ninja
Overnighted it for saturday delivery.
I feel like I can't go wrong since there were some large DOA reviews and painful solutions even in the last two months for that model.
I've dealt with Evga support before and always liked it, so I can live with no corsair link shit.

Depends on country too.
Looking around, here in Finland the minimum you'll typically get is 120€/week, in some industries you're getting 30% of your hourly wage for every hour spent on-call.

Also depends if you're on a salary or hourly. But yeah, you're right.
Goddamnit, by the looks of it everything for my new PC is gonna arrive tomorrow with Prime (Only case is not guranteed, but actually has already arrived in the city, so I hope they bring it out anyway), except for the fucking CPU which is on backorder. So a local place has it in stock and I got it reserved, but they are only open 10:00-13:00 and I dont know when the rest is gonna arrive in the post D:

Plus if it's amazon you're looking at stupid quick turnaround. My EVGA G2 was actually DOA, but they advanced RMA'd it so I had a new one in two days (which was my original shipping). Been running like a champ ever since.

That is such a tease. I hate when that happens.

I have the option to reroute the package, although I don't wanna risk rerouting it to a pickup location as that might add delay. I could however enable dropoff at my place, but I already had a package stolen a while ago so I'm not sure I wanna do that even for a 3 hour window.
Prank your friends, send them a shortened link that redirects them to a page of your choosing but not before telling you what torrents their IP has participated in!

Didn't this show up a few years ago? I thought it was fake. I seem to remember something very much like this.
Well that probably only checks a few popular public trackers
Crawls a few public trackers and DHT, yes.
Both those urls, until I refreshed, linked to an mp4 from the battlegrounds thread...
I'm blaming the Web engine...
Welp. upgraded fro 16gb to 32gb, lost quite a bit of performance from going from 2-4 dimms because AM4 shit.
Working for a project that required external machine but:
- BSOD on WSL
- No second machine powerful enough
- Consumes about 4-5gb normally, vmware itself is more about 5-6gb.
- The tomcat servers crash if i lower their memory allowances.
- Doesn't function without symlinks all over it, and driver failure on the only method that would have maybe worked.
So, i thought, VMWare workstation has plenty of hardware graphics acceleration, tweak the latency down, just move some of the dev-env in there?
And then i found that its having a blast with rendering chrome and electron, where it would use about 10x less memory for those processes when i disable acceleration.
I am pretty sure this is about as good as the non-bare-metal hypervisors get, and always struggling.
