Wow our new router has signal that reaches 7 houses down from us. That's a good change from the previous "I get 1 bar in the office adjecent to the router room"
What router is this?
What router is this?
ASUS AC1750 [editline]9th May 2017[/editline] what am i even doing
Think I should put a PC fan under it? I could solder up a USB powered solution.
Yeah I used to remember being able to browse from my ASUS NT56U from quite a while away too. Shame it still died after a year.
Warranty wasn't useful for that?
So one of our clients just upgraded a POS to an i5 7600 + 16 GB of RAM and I did a double take because I couldn't fucking believe we finally have a client with a POS running a 64 bit OS. Everything else is either XP or 7 on a first/third gen i3 + 3.5 GB RAM.
Warranty wasn't useful for that?
The router I just bought comes with a 1 year manufacturers warranty

I rotated my Dell U2415.. man portrait IPS is a million times better than portrait TN panels. Conclusion: never ever buy TN panels ever again.
Any of you guys shopping for DDR4 RAM right now?
Ye. Whatcha got
Anyone having issues logging in with LastPass?
Oh hell yeah, my replacement 8GB DDR4 stick came in from Crucial today ❤️❤️❤️
Update broke my Windows 10 laptop's network stuff, now I have to re-enter passwords for all the Wi-Fi networks and set up the dial-up connection for my cell phone again. Thanks Microsoft. [editline]11th May 2017[/editline] And it looks like dial-up connection is straight up broken too, the cell phone's modem is recognized no problem in task manager but not by the dial-up connection utility. Wonder if the driver does not work correctly anymore.
ChromiumOS, Debian (To some extent), Ubuntu, anything really
Ubuntu Lite & Debian Lite to be specific, its better to have the bare essentials and then install what you need. Personally I find it harder to clear out extraneous shit from linux distros than it is to install from the ground up.
CentOS minimal
CentOS minimal
"CentOS, when you want to be on the bleeding edge of the EoL phase"
"CentOS, when you want to be on the bleeding edge of the EoL phase"
Still more up to date than Debian
is there any modern linux noob-friendly distro that will run comfortably and smoothly on one of those circa 2012 thinkpads? like 2012 mobile i5, 4gb ram etc i (really) need a laptop due to some personal circumstances asap, and those are reasonably affordable
Thinkpads are well known for great Linux compatibility. If you're a Linux noob I strongly suggest Xubuntu. It's a Windows-like desktop environment with almost all the ease-of-use conveniences of Ubuntu without that god-awful Unity DE. Even a bloated distro like regular Ubuntu is still going to be cleaner than Windows, it's not a huge deal. [editline]11th May 2017[/editline] Y'all reminded me of my first and second laptops I ever owned :v: [t]http://i.imgur.com/SDlXsZU.jpg[/t] No wonder I immediately liked the Thinkpad. Shame I didn't know what ExpressCard was back then cuz they had slots for it.
The "last" Itaniums have been officially released. They're basically just minor upclocks of the last ones, from 2012... they're even still on 32nm. I'm vaguely interested in picking up an Itanium server to tinker with, when they eventually get sold off for near-scrap. It's just such an interesting little thing. I feel like it would be cool to write some tightly-optimized code for, like a software renderer or something. A cursory search failed to find any ports of Doom to the platform, although the search results are tainted with a lot of "Itanium is doomed" opinion pieces, so I could easily have missed it.
Anything called "Itanium is doomed" isn't really an opinion piece
