This is my first time in California and having a real vacation in a looong time. Am I a nerd for having my laptop and phone in the pool while enjoying the sun?
Wait, how and why do you have your laptop in the pool?
Eww Michelob
Wait, how and why do you have your laptop in the pool?
because he's a huge nerd duh
I bet California is great now that they're out of the drought. I was there last summer and even in the bay area everything was dead.
Edit:
A stretch of highway a mile from my hotel actually got washed out during some flooding haha
Was wondering why the aftermarket battery I got for my X220 kept shutting off under heavy load.
On first discharge it would just randomly do it, now on the second or third cycle it would just do it under heavy load.
30 minutes later, having gone through a couple of battery pack teardowns, and the entirety of the X220 schematic, turns out they didn't include balancing in the pack at all. What a bunch of dicks.
Going to take several cycles until the pack starts to even get close to being sort of balanced.

Yes. Get off the tech.
Yes. Get off the tech.
Generally when I go on trips, I'm starting to leave my laptop behind. One less thing to lose/destroy, and kinda defeats the whole point of why I was on vacation in the first place. Plus, phones are so damn capable I really don't miss that much.
Why would you have 445 open anyways.
I don't, it just attempted to connect on it which I found funny.

Seems like we're always in a drought but last year was bad. Drive by any lake last year and you'd see areas of the coast that haven't been out of the water for decades or centuries.
Speaking of funny ports, I changed all my raspberry pis to only respond to SSH on port 16 and then installed fail2ban.
But don't tell any chinese hackers guys, its super serious hunter2 stuff. :shh:
Laptop ordered, i7 7700HQ, GTX 1060, 512 GB SSD, 16GB RAM, 15.6" 1080p 60 IPS screen. Space for 3 more SSDs and 3 SODIMMs. Probably give Arch on physical hardware a go then buy a W10 key later.
Psst. Give Manjaro a shot.
Will do.

I just run an OpenVPN server. That's the only port exposed besides for torrents.
Why run openvpn when you can run an actually good vpn server that has native support on platforms?

Because its simple and it works. And you actually have to throw out an alternative. :v:

The rains made everything nice and green for a while but it's all dead again and we're back to drought.

Side of the pool, my bad.
I dunno, being in a pool alone is too much lol. I just don't know how negatively it would be viewed, but eh it's LA.
It was comfy. What's not comfy is going to a wedding with your whole body burned because you never leave your bedroom up north.
Meanwhile, here in Washington, we've only had like a week of sun since October
Huh, my flagdog still says I'm in Canada even though I'm on AT&T. Neat.
Hey, two of my co worker buddies are in LA. They're scabbing for one of our warehouses on strike. :v:
i got reminded of three knife rules today that i forgot. rule 1, don't cut in a hurry. rule 2. don't cut when nonporous things are wet. rule 3, don't have anything fleshy downrange of the blade
i cut my finger bad enough it bled for two hours

It was 70 for like two days, now it's back to 50s and overcast/rain for a week
So same ol' same ol'
We got 4 whole days in a row down here
what part of washington are you guys in where you're only getting 2~4 days of sun before the rain comes back?

I don't know if you're familiar with convergence zones but

take a wild guess
Nah, I'm not. Only been living here for two years.
Im pretty close to the Columbia river, basically the Washington side of Portland, Oregon. One of the local weather forecasters posted this recently if you care enough to read it. Basically it's the coolest spring in 5 years (aka back to normal) and the third wettest spring ever. On top of this last winter being the worst I've ever experienced living here. Ever seen lighting in a snowstorm? :v:
Yeah a week of sunny days since October is a little bit of an exaggeration but that was actually true as of mid March. We've had probably another weeks worth of sun since then, 2-3 days at a time followed by a week+ of rain or clouds. Yay PNW
At least we're getting lots of thunderstorms this year.

There was a pretty good thunderstorm last week.
