We now have unlimited everything on 4 lines on ATT for the same amount ($180) me and my mom were paying for our 2 lines, unlimited data for me and 2gb data for her while sharing 700 minutes.

A lot of the bigger ISPs moved to limited data per month.
They aren't dead, our ISPs havn't even bothered to even suggest it (yet). But I do see it becoming the norm in the future.
In all fairness, Comcast's previous cap was only an unenforced 250GB cap. Then they upped it to a terabyte and started enforcing it. It's still 100% stupid though; if less than 3% of people hit the 1TB cap then why bother enforcing it?

To set a precedent so they can lower the cap to ensure a smoother and more effective experience when they reduce it to compass only the top 10% of users.

A fragment of the processing power, a worse screen, much harder to come by, more expensive, less onboard storage, no MicroSD.
Nah, bro.
Does anyone else feel like Google is starting to suck as an actual search engine?
I need to use Chrome to do automated HTML->PDF conversion. A recent-ish update brought support for headless mode and other stuff, including a "--print-to-pdf" option. I wanted to go look up some documentation on it, find out what it uses as the page size and where it puts the file.
You cannot find that information anywhere. A search for `chrome --print-to-pdf` brings up page after page of old extensions to let you manually save a page as PDF (which is now built-in), because it decides it's equivalent to `chrome print to pdf`. Quotes doesn't help - `chrome "--print-to-pdf"` does the same thing. Limiting it to only results from the last year gets rid of the completely obsolete cruft, but replaces it with the feature request and bug-tracker posts about the feature, and a page that simply tells you that you invoke it as "chrome --headless --disable-gpu --print-to-pdf <url>", which doesn't really help.
I got so frustrated I even tried using Bing. No dice. I can't even manage to find a comprehensive list of Chrome command-line flags, it only brings up a "Ten Secret Chrome Command Lines That Will Blow Your Mind" clickbait article that seems to have been reposted on a million sites.
My experience with filestream so far. It's pretty sequential, so if I make like a 100gb in changes and then I make a small file deletion it won't delete until the big 100gb change goes through.
It also acts as a big cached mount. So when you copy data to the drive, it first copies to a GoogleDriveFS folder in appdata and then it uploads it from there. So if you got a small OS drive or SSD, that's not ideal. I wish it was a system where it'd just cache the operation and upload from the source file. But I think it's intended to actually behave like a mount where you're not copying to it, you're moving to it.
But I'm using it as a backup destination, where It's another copy of data. But I'm also slightly iffy on using it blindly, like using it for all my files. On the fence if I should encrypt on that end.
Speeds at home are max line speed. I can download at 90-100Mbps, And upload at 12. But at work where we got ATT fiber 100/100, it uploads at 8mbps, and downloads around 20. Annoying.
1# It needs built in Qos or bandwidth limits
2# I think it needs an option to choose the cache location, since I loaded my SSD to 5mb free lastnight in testing.
3# Needs optimization for my other ISP.
Here is hoping the fcc doesn't kill net neutrality this time and it sweeps over to europe
It won't, there is too much competition in Europe in the local ISP markets and cartels are swiftly dealt with. In the US there is in effect only one ISP in many areas, the local cable provider who can do whatever the fuck they like within regulations. European governments did away with such monopolies years ago and introduced mechanisms for greater competition, something the US needs to adopt.
I haven't used my PC in over year, it's been gathering dust in a corner because the GPU died and I was too busy with studying. Now my exams are over and it's time to relax, drink beer and game.
I have a 2600k, 850W PSU 16gb ram and a (dead) 7970 GPU. Top of the line ~2011 stuff. What part should I upgrade?
[editline]16th May 2017[/editline]
and by that I mean what are your personal opinions about the state of GPUs/CPUs today

GPU definitely. 1060's got a new boost in vram speeds. Same for the 1080.
-snip-
Should probably hold off on GPU's until we see AMD's new stuff, at the very least if you don't want it the price will drop more on Nvidia's lineup.

Yeah, I'm waiting with bated breath for Vega. If it even matches 1070 performance I'd be happy.

Nope just the line. 180 for 4 lines unlimited is a solid deal in the US for a network you can actually get in rural areas.

What do you guys think about this laptop? 7th gen 7700HQ CPU, GTX1070:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Gaming-GTX1070-G9-593-71EH/dp/B01MR2WT9P
I'm looking for something top of the line. I bought a maxed out ASUS laptop in 2011 for future proofing and it lasted and served that purpose very well. It's finally showing its age so now I'm planning on getting the best I can with a $2100 budget. It pays off in the long run.
I don't know too much about Thunderbolt 3, but when I'm at home could I attach 3 monitors to this laptop in a "docked" type of setup via the Thunderbolt port? I love the portability of a laptop but prefer monitors and a keyboard in front of me when I'm at home.

Acer gaming laptops are good for the price, but as with most cheaper gaming laptops, carrying one around on a regular basis will eventually result in its gradual disintegration 2-3 years down the line
IMO if I was buying a gaming laptop nowadays and couldn't give two shits about aesthetics, I'd just get an Alienware and a graphics amplifier. Being a Dell subsidiary, they don't have Clevo-tier warranty support if something breaks, and the graphics amplifier is cheap futureproofing.
Why not just get a much cheaper laptop with Thunderbolt 3 and no discrete GPU rather than getting something with a proprietary Dell thing
Why not just get a much cheaper laptop with Thunderbolt 3 and no discrete GPU rather than getting something with a proprietary Dell thing
Dell proprietary thing is cheaper than a Thunderbolt 3 GPU, and it's nice having some on-the-go GPU power as well.
[editline]f[/editline]
Not sayin' I would buy one, but for a regular gaming laptop user who occasionally games on the go but mostly at their desk it doesn't seem like a bad value.
Dell proprietary thing is cheaper than a Thunderbolt 3 GPU, and it's nice having some on-the-go GPU power as well.
Fair enough though I'm never a fan of proprietary Dell shit.
All that said I always recommend getting a cheap laptop e.g. a Thinkpad or a Cloudbook or something to use on the go, then a nice gaming desktop for home. It'll cost the same or much less than a single gaming laptop and 9 times out of ten gets the job done better, provided you don't play anything more intensive than say Source games on-the-go. Buying my gaming laptop was a mistake.

Well, I do take really good care of my things and my 2011 ASUS G73SW (around $1800 at the time) held up all these years so I'm not too worried about durability. I just need something maxed out for under $2100 so it'll last me 5 or 6 years again. Also not a fan of having more than one computer, hence the reason for a gaming laptop.
But I do want to use it as a "desktop" when I'm home. If it's Thunderbolt 3 I could just get a vertical laptop stand and use this thing to connect 3 displays, a keyboard and a mouse, right? Then it's dockable with just one cable?
