I don't know why anyone would need more buttons, every game ever made on PC is designed to be played with 2. Never really understood the concept of DPI. More comfort and good looking are thte only valid reasons, but I'm not paying 100 dollars for a good looking mouse.
Games aren't "designed" to use 2 buttons. Or at least, 2 pre-defined buttons. Ever noticed how your thumb usually rests on the side of the mouse? Not doing anything? Turns out if you put buttons there it gives you more options. Instead of having to spread a ton of binds across a keyboard, just stick something useful on your extra mouse button, bam. Instant fun. More buttons and higher DPI are perfectly valid reasons.

Two either side of that to move the ball of the mouse and finally my middle finger waiting patiently to go up when something on a game doesn't go my way.

Weird design for a mouse, how do they control exactly? Comfortable or just kind of weird in general?
The Sensei is the new version, I would like to keep reliableish prices. [editline]21st February 2012[/editline] Couldn't find it on amazon.
I bought it from Ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/273442-gigabyte-m6900-7-button-optical-gaming-mouse-usb-gm-m6900
A lot comfortable than the ones with the ball on the side. Unfortunately the trackball user base is going down, including me as I want a change but the Logitech marble mouse is definitely the best one. Gaming wise is debatable.. it has two extra buttons only but I found I could turn and react quicker than with a standard.
why would anyone ever try to game with a trackball
I think I'm going to get the M6900 since it's pretty cheap and has everything I want. Should I get one of those mouse mat things too? They look like rip-offs.
why would anyone ever try to game with a trackball
Because it's a lot easier for fps' personally.
lol
I have heard of upper-level Heavy players in TF2 using a trackball because it allows for very quick turns while allowing for minute adjustments - the accuracy of a minigun and the susceptibility to Spies plays into this. I agree with you on a personal level, but don't knock it too much.

This is what I use, the XM518's bigger brother. Looks like an alien brain, but is comfy as shit.

I use a track ball too, man. Except the ball is moved with the thumb, the fingers operate the LMB and RMB. I've always loved track balls. Used the same Logitech one for the past 10 years. Having to move around my entire hand to turn my character, in an FPS for instance, just seems retarded to me. Being able to flick your thumb around and do sharp precise turns is nice.

Mouse4 is basically required for using VoIP, people who use misconfigured voice activation should be shot.
heh
Your elitism is showing. I expect after a while you can adapt to know exactly when to snap your thumb back onto the ball and stop the turn perfectly, every time. Much in the same way we know how to turn rapidly pretty much perfectly in most games with a standard mouse. It's not a case of one being objectively better when the user has a bigger impact on performance than anything the mouse can provide.
who the fuck spends $60 on a mouse
if you think a trackball is equivalent to a traditional laser/optical mouse you're dumb no other way to put it
if you think a trackball is equivalent to a traditional laser/optical mouse you're dumb no other way to put it
Like almost any other peripheral, with enough time using it, someone can easily match someone using an alternative. We're a pretty adaptive species y'know. If we learn how to handle something properly, we tend to be quite good with it. I'm not saying a trackball is objectively better, because we can't. But some people who use them a lot would be quite accurate with them.
who the fuck spends $60 on a mouse
People who want good shit and don't spend $20 on everything just because they pay the bare minimum for everything? Same goes for most things, I'd rather have a good amount of good stuff than a lot of cheap shit.
I used to use a trackball. It was fun
You could get a MX518 for around £25 though ;D
which is about $40
which is about $40
Ah...then $60 seems a fair price for a good mouse.
who the fuck spends $60 on a mouse
You are the kind of person who uses the iBuds, aren't you?
