and STILL sound like poop!
They actually sound fairly good, later in 2008 they started making the shitty ones.
if you have a laptop get the g700 when its on sale
I don't know why anyone would need more buttons, every game ever made on PC is designed to be played with 2. Never really understood the concept of DPI. More comfort and good looking are thte only valid reasons, but I'm not paying 100 dollars for a good looking mouse.
Ahh yes, because the only factors that are worth mentioning in a mouse are extra buttons, dpi and how it looks.
I got my deathadder today extremely responsive, more comfortable than my wmo, feels about the same weight as it, the left/right button presses are really smooth the drivers are great, it tracks amazingly well in games, even better than my wmo and mx518 I would say, much more responsive and accurate than what I'm used to with opticals [editline]25th February 2012[/editline] the only thing I don't like is that it's missing dedicated dpi buttons, but it doesn't matter because I use 450 dpi in everything anyway
I recently bought the Razer deathadder and i dont know what to say i love it grib and it so senstitive that its perfect i cant really ask for much any other device... I have recently broke my Salamosa razer mouse which i had for a good 4+ years and i have to say they are really realiable devices and they last for a long time..
What's with these R.A.T. mice? Weirdest mouse I've seen in my life. Are they any good, or just gimmicky and expensive?
What's with these R.A.T. mice? Weirdest mouse I've seen in my life. Are they any good, or just gimmicky and expensive?
Not really that good, just popular with the rice crowd, they're ok just nothing special.

Mine is getting a bit old now, and the scroll wheel just spazzes out when I scroll. But the actual buttons still feel really nice and respond well. I never really thought about DPI buttons, I just found a DPI that works for the space I have and stuck to it. I do kind of need to invest in a new mouse at some point I think. Using a shitty little £5 mouse from a local PC store on my laptop has taught me that I kind of need a scroll wheel again.
Hey, I'm sold on the g700 mouse so far. What's the feel of it like? Does the battery part raise it up too much? Also, I read up that the wire was too stiff for it so would buying this work? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-1-8m-Hi-Speed-Micro-Cable/dp/B004S53U3C/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1330193812&sr=8-7
Deathadder fan here too, the only things I didn't like about it are its low weight and the stupid name. Out of the G5, G500 and the Xai (the other mice I've had) it's the clear winner. It has a noticeably better sensor (especially on cloth pads) than the others and personally I find it the most comfortable as well. So far it has been more reliable too, especially when comparing it to the G500 (really awful build quality on that mouse). I often hear people say razer makes low quality ricey shit but then Razer must have had a really good day when making the deathadder, can't say anything about their other products cause I never used them. @ Odellus If you have the 3500 dpi version you can assign a button to change sensitivity in combination with the scroll wheel, not dpi though.
Went and bought one of these today since I got paid yesterday and idgaf about moneys. 65 quid in GForce, thought it was reasonable. You can adjust the thumb buttons' positioning which is pretty cool, and the mouse is really comfy. Doesn't seem to like my Steelseries SP mousepad at all which is a bit of a shame since I shelled out 40 for that a couple of years back. Mousepad in question:
oh yeah forgot to mention, the da glides so fucking well on my qck+ compared to my mx518/g5
Is there any other mice that are great for £60 or under? The g700 I am tempted, but the heavy weight that people are claiming may put me off. The other option is the g500 but apparently the scroll wheel is bad? What do others suggest? I've never been tempted by Razer due to peoples criticism and being overpriced.
razer's mice aren't overpriced, their headphones are and so are their keyboards to an extent the deathadder is a great mouse for $40, if that's too much you can grab an abyssus for $30 which uses the same sensor but doesn't have back/forward buttons tbh I'm probably never buying logitech again after how bad their mice have gotten since the mx518/g5/g9x days you should get a wmo/intellimouse honestly, best mice ever made

I'm leaning more towards the G500 over G700 as I don't REALLY need wireless, but I have a habit of breaking cables so replacing the wire would be very easy.. However the G500, you can change it's weight easy. I just need to be more organised with my cable management.

Honestly, most FPS games don't really need that many mouse buttons if you organize your keyboard buttons. If you want a good example of good organization for keyboard, try playing NQuake (Quakeworld client).

I found a pretty cool deal: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-060-OP It may cost £3 more than Amazon, but you get a Boogie Bug AimB Pad XL Gaming Surface for free, worth £15.
This thread has really redeemed itself in the last couple of posts.
Safe to play it with the G500 then? It's optical, so grab a good mousepad like the QcK Heavy, Puretrak Talent, Zowie 5L, Razer Goliathus etc.
So far it has been more reliable too, especially when comparing it to the G500 (really awful build quality on that mouse).
How come my post saying the same thing on the first page gets showered with dumb ratings? All g500 owners apparently.
Because many people are brand whores and base their opinions on company reputation alone. @ MrAgree Uhm no, going for the G500 is not playing it safe. I've had two, replaced the first one cause it broke down. Second one didn't but it still felt not very solid, rattles quite a bit. I recommend the deathadder.
I used to use a trackball. It was fun
I used to clean them most of the time.
All i've heard are great reviews for the G500 until now?
I used to use a G5 (exact same shape as the G500) and absolutely loved it. Fit my hand perfectly, really nice weight and button placement. I really don't get why people hate on the Logitech mice so much :L [editline]26th February 2012[/editline] Also does anyone know why my new Imperator won't work with my SP mouse pad?
Safe to play it with the G500 then? It's like the Logitech's Deathadder and it all boils down to your grip style/how many buttons you need.
All i've heard are great reviews for the G500 until now?
because all you've heard from are people who may as well just use Facebook all day they wouldn't know if there was a problem with a mouse if it had one, hence all the good G500 reviews
Like almost any other peripheral, with enough time using it, someone can easily match someone using an alternative. We're a pretty adaptive species y'know. If we learn how to handle something properly, we tend to be quite good with it. I'm not saying a trackball is objectively better, because we can't. But some people who use them a lot would be quite accurate with them.
This. It's how you use it.. you could have the average gamer on the best mouse. He would still lose to one of the worlds best gamer on an average mouse. It's personal preference and how you adapt to it.
If we're going theoretical for how optimal pheripheral devices can be, you have to acknowledge that every single model for mice is different and therefore has a different limit for how possibly well a human could use it. For example, let's say there's two identical mice apart from one weighing much more than the other. More weight means more force used to move the mouse (F=ma), therefore you have will either have to expend more energy into moving heavier mice or you will use the same energy but move the mouse slower. Looking at it like this, and with the finite weight of our hands already, we're most used to moving around our hands with minimal extra weight, therefore the lighter the mouse, the more likely the user is to have a better optimal aim limit. Yes there will be people who say "but I always use heavy mice and whenever I try light mice I can't aim worth a damn." The problem with that is that they're simply used to using those heavy mice, therefore if they try to use a lighter mouse right off the bat, of course they're gonna not aim as well. It's the same thing with people who use arrow keys for playing FPS, arrow keys are less efficient because using your pinky and thumb is more awkward because the surrounding buttons are higher up than with wasd. Those arrow key people try WASD, and decided it's no good for them because they didn't do as well using it simply because they weren't used to WASD. Trackballs are believed to be less optimal than regular mice because it gives emphasis to your thumb. Most people don't do much precise work with their thumb in their daily activities and it's easier for most people to use their other fingers/hand/wrist to navigate the mouse more accurately and precisely. Perhaps the trackball could be decent for someone who mastered their thumb, but for most people that's simply unlikely. Thinking about it like this, the more precise and accurate the interface is the more precise and accurate the aim is, therefore there will always be ways to optimize that up until we get to direct brain interfaces. You have to be careful where you get your reviews for different mice; I don't trust critics like those on CNET at all when it comes to mice. Gamers on forums generally seem to be the most helpful, because they use their mice daily and optimize themselves to do as well as possible, whereas the critics are just paid to shit out some opinion on the mice based on a lot of factors that gamers don't actually too much of a shit about, such as number of buttons, ergonomics, DPI settings, etc etc. But keep in mind that not all gamers are alike either, a lot get a certain brand (Logitech/Razer/etc.), like the mouse a lot compared to their last shitty generic one, and then side with that brand and defend it to the death (MX518 users come to mind, FP seems biased towards MX518). Those gamers don't truly compare mice, they get what they think is nice but don't compare it to other top tier mice. I think the Quake Live forums generally have some useful opinions on mice, involving information that is actually useful, mainly regarding the sensor of a mouse and not the other retarded bullshit like buttons and DPI.
