I see the first one you recommended has a 6 + 2 PCIE I assume that would not work for the 8pin connector on my GPU?
They both have a 6+2 and a 6 pin. The 6+2 is what you have now. It's a 6 pin with 2 extra pins on the same cable so you can use it either as a 6 pin power or 8 pin power. So both would have the proper connectors for your GPU with 1 8 pin and 1 6 pin input.

So heres a build i was thinking of getting, for high performance gaming (being able to run games like GTA V and Dragon age inquisition on highest settings) and hopefully that it will age well for as long as possible, better than my rotten budget pc im using now at least lol. No overclocking is necessary though PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mHLMgs Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mHLMgs/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor ($187.99 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.75 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Asus H97-PLUS ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($99.99 @ NCIX US) Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($69.49 @ OutletPC) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($106.52 @ Amazon) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($44.99 @ Best Buy) Case: Corsair SPEC-03 Red ATX Mid Tower Case ($74.98 @ Newegg) Power Supply: XFX Core Edition 650W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($79.98 @ Newegg) Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($19.75 @ OutletPC) Total: $713.44 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available From where im buying these parts, it all will cost around 850-900 euros. What are your intended uses? And what GPU are you using?
What are your intended uses? And what GPU are you using?
For the most part I will be using it for gaming and for programming. The GPU I have is a nvidia gtx 970. I want it to be futureproof, so I won't have to upgrade for another 4-5 years like my last computer.
A 4790k and a gigabyte Z97x Gaming 7 will last you just as long and be significantly cheaper. It will also most likely give you some better performance right now because a 4790k on average can be overclocked more than a 5820k.
There is no AMD platform that supports DDR4, so that's no worry there. I still would recommend an intel CPU over an AMD CPU though, AMD GPU's are solid.
Thanks for the tips on the 980, decided to go for MSI. This is what I'm considering buying. As my first "real" desktop ever after being a laptop user, I have no idea about what motherboard or which case to get, I just looked at what was popular. I have a feeling the motherboard is a bit overkill though. Any thoughts or changes? It's pretty much the best price/performance board, and the only real reason to go higher is for LN2 cooling. Only other thing I'd change is the PSU to a EVGA Supernova G2 750w, Superflower Leadex, or pretty much any XFX or Seasonic 600w+. Also the sound card really isn't necessary in modern systems. If you have high end headphones to drive you're better off getting an actual external amp.
Hey, I'm considering getting an upgrade for my desktop. I already got an ssd disk and a couple of hdd's + an 750w psu. The things i would need is- *GPU *CPU *CPU Cooler *Motherboard *Memory The computer will mostly be used for gaming. So I'm looking for good performance. I would prefer getting an AMD cpu and gpu. Because i have had positive experiences with those before + it usually is cheaper. Also i really want to support AMD, every buyer helps in stopping nvidia from getting all the market share. I am unsure about getting DDR3 or 4. I really cant see THAT much of an improvement when the computer mostly will be used for gaming. But it will need a minimum of 12 gb ram. Since atm i got 8, and i run out of ram all the time. Anyone willing to reccomend some parts for me? And come with some comeback to what i need in this computer?
intel is hands down the winner in the mid-higher budget builds. amd/nvidia is a toss up, both are solid atm. the gtx 970 is honestly the best bang at the moment.

Every couple weeks a good non-reference 290x drops below $300. Right now XFX's is I think.

Basically you can go with the cheapest DDR3 1600mhz CL9 set with heatspreaders, the Coolermaster T4 or TX3 will still be more than fine for a locked i5, Check which PSU is cheapest out of available Seasonic, Superflower, or XFX PSU's, 500w is fine. Getting this sometime during the summer: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/pY2HK8 This is my first real build, I had a budget build recommended to me from here around 4-5ish years ago, its starting to die on me and tbh I havent touched it in a year due to college and lack of internet at home. I'm planning on getting back into community gaming and since ArmA 3 is such a specs behemoth I want to drop money on a good machine that'll last me a while. Going to be using this rig primarily for gaming, specifically ArmA 3 which is why I picked the i7, also the gtx 960 was to help keep the cost below $1000, from some youtube vids i've seen it should be able to handle games on very high while keeping a fps around ~60, which is what I want. I threw the cheapest power supply I could find in there and I'm not really sure about the case and cpu fan, I wanted something that'll be cool and quiet (who doesn't?) I have this from my old computer so I could probably re-use it but the case is in pretty crap condition right now so a new one would be preferable. Something sexier perhaps with positive airflow. SSD was for boot speed and general nippiness. Again, if theres a cheaper alternative without sacrificing too much performance let me know. Would've preferred 500gb but 250 is fine because I really dont plan on installing a shit-ton of games at once. Motherboard seems like I cant go wrong, but once again, if I can keep costs down without sacrificing anything (i don't care about front ports, or any special features I don't need) then let me know. Ram I went with 8gb, Idk shit about the different brands or how they perform differently, so definitely want some feedback and cheaper alternate options to this. Cost isn't too much of a problem but again if possible I'd like to keep it under $1000
4k is all preference, but you need a lot of GPU horsepower to drive it. Higher refresh rate is definitely good imo. You can get a nice 1440p 27" IPS screen for under $400. I've heard good things about this BenQ, and it looks to have a nice stand. Are you wanting to keep a large screen size?
Yeah but I could settle for a 23 or so. I have a 970 ftw+ edition with a z97. Would that be able to push a 4k monitor?
For the most part I will be using it for gaming and for programming. The GPU I have is a nvidia gtx 970. I want it to be futureproof, so I won't have to upgrade for another 4-5 years like my last computer.
I have the same CPU and motherboard. You won't need six cores unless you're compiling a lot of projects from source (like me) or rendering film. Very fast chip set, though. For gaming its overkill, no game will make use of six cores. [editline]8th April 2015[/editline] Save the cash and invest in a GPU down the line, only go for X99 if you're doing serious work

The main reason I'm going x99 is for PCIe lanes though.
Checked out the specs on my school studios mac pro and damn 64 gigs of RAM.
Yep pretty much this. The main reason I'm going x99 is for PCIe lanes though.
True, useful if you want to run two or more GPUs in addition to other PCIe expansions. But the 5820k can only access 28 of the 40 lanes available to X99. To use the rest, you have to spend a lot more on your CPU. 28 is still more than most boards have, which is usually 16... [editline]8th April 2015[/editline] But I can't justify spending over a grand on my CPU/motherboard... my entire X99 upgrade cost under 700$. I guess some people can.

I hope this is the right place to ask. I wanna upgrade either my CPU or GPU, but I wanna know which will have the most impact for the games I currently play (i'll eventually upgrade both but can't right now) If it helps I play Warframe, Guild Wars 2 and League of Legends, the only thing i don't play on low is league.
Cost isn't too much of a problem but again if possible I'd like to keep it under $1000
I see a few errors: - You have an H97 (non-overclockable) motherboard paired with a K-series (overclockable) CPU. You want a Z97 if you want to overclock and a non-K series CPU if you don't (saves money), probably one of what Levelog recommends in the posts above. - You probably don't need an i7 unless you're rendering, as hyperthreading is only marginally helpful otherwise. See the build above your post. - 430W would cut it close if you plan to overclock your processor or upgrade your build at any point. - SSD isn't the best (in terms of speed). - In terms of RAM, just buy the cheapest RAM you can find with the speed you want. - Graphics card is sort of midrange. It'll serve you fine, but your other components will outlast it. See the build posted by Levelog above yours, and also this one posted by him.

The gt220 is an awful card for gaming (saying this as a previous owner).
