I appreciate being told what it meant and how to do it but decided not to go with that option and wanted a witty way of saying so. I am thankful for everyone in this thread who has put up with my relentless, amatuerish, tactless questions and will be expressing my gratitude when I finally load up a PC game on more than minimal settings. However, I didn't appreciate Dawnkiller's sass as this PC's quick and easy set-up is important to me.
If you wanted quick and easy, you should have bought a pre-built. Never mind, glad I could help in some regard at least.
Repost because new page. Any thoughts?
Crucial, Samsung, Intel are still the better ones.
It's time to get a new computer. Trying to build myself (For the first time really). So here is my list so far. Any comments on it? If you're going to be spending that kind of money I would at least go up to the 980. Also rather the i5 over the i7.
If you're going to be spending that kind of money I would at least go up to the 980. Since I also have to get a monitor and keyboard as well - I have always used laptops. i5 over i7 seems like a good idea as well.
If you're going to be spending that kind of money, don't gimp yourself with a 970/980. Get a R9 390 or a R9 FURY.
Still thinking about getting a new monitor. Looking for good 144hz 1440p monitors. Any recommendations? I'm shooting for 24 to 27 inch at a good price.
Asus makes a good (pricey) one, and Qnix sells 1440p monitors that can be over clocked to 120hz.
Would it be more beneficial to just get 1080p with 144hz? Prices seem a lot better.
What's more important to you?
Dunno. I've never really played games in either 1440 or 4k so I really don't know how it looks. At the same time, I've never seen framerates above 60. I'd like to experience both if possible. Hopefully I'll have enough money around Christmas to get something good. It also doesn't help that newegg or amazon doesn't actually show me only 1440p options. There's always a ton of 1080p options mixed in./
I've been running my i7-930 for the past five years and next Jan/Feb I was planning on going balls out again on a build to hold me over for another five. I've got two 760s which I'm intent on keeping as one still holds the lifetime warranty from my original 480 purchase back in 2010. Was thinking about grabbing a sky lake i7 and the associated hardware while keeping case, monitor, drives, and psu I currently have. Is this a good idea :v:?
Depending on your drives and psu, I might swap those out.
Psu is a Corsair AX850 and my drives are still going strong with a newer 840 evo, wd blue, and my spinpoint f3 from '10
Yeh the AX is a great PSU.
My friend is building a computer and he needs a gpu. He's been eyeing the 960. His budget is around $200 USD.
My friend is building a computer and he needs a gpu. He's been eyeing the 960. His budget is around $200 USD.
r9 380. only a few bucks more and generally outperforms the 960. also has 4gb vram.
My friend is building a computer and he needs a gpu. He's been eyeing the 960. His budget is around $200 USD.
What are the rest o the specs? And yeah in that budget range. r9 380 or the soon to be released r9 380x. If you have the budget the x is probably going to be worth the wait in my opinion.

Edit Since I have some money to spend next month... Should I bother with a 380 over my 760?
Not sure if this is the best place for this but how does everyone with multiple hard drives organize all their shit on the other drives? I'm about to install a SSD for the first time and don't know how I should go about it
What about your documents and such? I'm also more curious about file structure. Never installed programs or stored files outside of Windows default shit. Also, why do you keep pictures on a separate drive? Just a performance thing?
SSD for OS, Sony Vegas, iTunes (not the content), most small programs, top 2-3 commonly used games. 2TB HDD #1, all the other games, all of my media, downloads, w/e 2TB HDD #2, purely my shadowplay and old fraps footage. I would screenshot but I'm not at the house with my PC - I will tell you that I have about 300GB left on that 2nd hard drive. I have too many shadowplay clips and not enough youtube videos [editline]18th November 2015[/editline] When you install Windows, make sure one of the first things you do is re-map all of your Documents, Music, Video, Picture folders to your HDD. Unless you've bought like a 2TB SSD, you are not gonna have space for all of your stuff, and you'll thank yourself in the long run.

I put a couple of games on the SSD because load times were fucking awful. Title II.png is on the SSD and I don't know why. [editline]18th November 2015[/editline] Also have a 4GiB RAMDisk for config files that need fast access that I don't want shitting on my SSD lifetime. Don't get Toshiba harddrives, loud as fuck on random read.
my toshiba is crucially loud though. I have a western digital blue 1tb that I've literally never heard before, and since I installed this 3tb toshiba the pc makes crazy noises all the time
I'm doing a buy off of amazon for my parts, is there anything else I'll need like CPU thermal paste
Friend is looking for a cheap build. $500 max. Needs to be small and console like, gaming only. Really wants to play Witcher 3 and Fallout 4. Thanks!
