Would the 380x be a worthy upgrade from a 760?
Tower only? OS?
Yeah tower only and he has windows. Thanks!
Did a quick search, might as well crosspost this here.
Need decent Wireless N 5.0GHz Dual-Band USB/PCI(E) adapter. Wired Ethernet is not an option. Had a Belkin USB dongle but had problems and failed periodically, had to be plugged out and in again multiple times. Otherwise connection speed was fine. Want to stay away from then as a result. Range doesn't need to be amazing. Don't know about budget so I guess I'd like to keep it as cheap as I can without it being total shit. The ASUS AC55 is excellent. USB3.0, comes with a cradle so you can place it on the top on your desk. [editline]19th November 2015[/editline] Just deployed 45 of them at an appliance store
intel 7260ac 4 lyfe it's kind of hard to find the desktop version with the first party pcie - minipcie adapter though [editline]19th November 2015[/editline] i used to have a wdn4800 in my computer and it was okay but it doesn't hold a candle to the 7260ac

so from what i've seen lately, is the r9 390 currently the best radeon card?
Right chaps, today is the day. Which are the most reliable UK-posting-to PartPicker retailers?
Best bang for buck yeah.
what about other high-end ones like 390x? is it worthwhile as well?
what about other high-end ones like 390x? is it worthwhile as well?
It has slightly more shader units and is clocked slightly higher, The price difference is about 80-100$ which is generally not worth it. The 390(X) is also the same chip as the 290(X) with 8gb instead of 4gb of ram. If you're not aiming for 4K and the price of the 290(X) is significantly lower then the 390(X) its probably worth picking up instead. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html The AMD cards generally perform better at higher resolutions then their Nvidia counterpart. Besides that i don't think either AMD or Nvidia have big price/performance gaps on the high end.
I'm thinking about games like GTA, Borderlands 2,and Planetside 2.
Planetside 2 is really CPU heavy and really benefits from having a fast Intel CPU. (Especially with recent multithreading updates) i3's generally give around 40-70 fps in big battles. An i5 does 50-100fps. However, the 950 dictates that you should be running the game on low/medium to get these kind of fps.
Right chaps, today is the day. I haven't used the others, but really, all of them are solid in theory.

Amd cards have the most confusing names.
Ok, thanks. I just needed to truthfully say I asked for independant advice on this. Though I am loathed to buy from Amazon…
Scan is equally good, and they're a dedicated PC shop. Would rather go with them over Amazon; those top 3 were in no particular order. Again, there's nothing wrong with either AriaPC or CCL in theory... I've just never used them
I'm looking for a laptop for college, mainly just Office, browsing and a bit of programming on it as well (Python/NetBeans). I'm not looking to spend a lot, say £300, used and refurbished are fine. The best thing I've found so far is this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lenovo-B5400-15-6-laptop-Intel-i5-4200m-4GB-1TB-windows-8-1-10-PRO-/201416413944 I've got an SSD in my existing laptop so I'm looking to swap that over to the new one.

If you're okay with something a bit thicker I'd suggest a T420 or T430. Or a Dell E6420/6520/6430/6530. If you want something thin you might be able to swing a Dell 6430u in that budget.
It's done. I'm now officially a rebel. But does anyone think I desparately need any coolidge for this build? Or will the video card fan be enough?

You may also want to look into more fans in general, fans are a good thing to have.

To those who replyed on Calvining my build some more, I'll consider and keep an eye on things once it's up and running. There's that Speccy thing and probably others that'll be like "yeah, unless you're making chips with your motherboard, you should chill things in here".

Would OCing my 4790k to 4.2ghz make any difference in terms of game performance?
