I've been thinking about getting a new graphics card on Christmas. What new graphics cards do you recommend?
What do you have right now, what's your budget, and what resolution is your monitor?
I currently have an AMD Radeon 7900 series graphics card and a 1920 x 1200 monitor. I've looked at some framerate comparison videos regarding AMD and Nividia graphics cards. I'm just asking which graphics card manufacturer that is the best.
I currently have an AMD Radeon 7900 series graphics card and a 1920 x 1200 monitor. I've looked at some framerate comparison videos regarding AMD and Nividia graphics cards. I'm just asking which graphics card manufacturer that is the best.
Neither, it depends on your budget use and extra requirements which GPU is best. The general best bang for you budget from 170 to 780€ looks something like this: 170€ AMD370 AMD380 AMD380X NV970/AMD390 NV980/AMD390X AMD FURY NV980TI/AMD FURY x 780€ Some extra info a wrote a while back:
Nvidia makes more silent and more power efficient GPU's, this and Shadowplay are really its only defining features as opposed to AMD. AMD usually makes the slightly more power hungry cards that cost less for the same performance. Nvidia are also considered assholes for adding useless or even invisible features to games that only run well on Nvidia GPU's. This is supposedly only done, to hurt AMD in benchmarks. They are also considered Assholes for paying game devs to implement these features and giving massive discounts to OEM's to use Nvidia instead of AMD gpu's in their machines. And also because they drop support on older cards a lot faster than AMD. Due to all this and successful marketing, Nvidia is getting more and more popular and AMD is the underdog. Currently NVIDIA Holds a 54% market share on steam gamers, while AMD is at 27% mostly featuring old cards as well. AMD GPU's are projected to do much better when DX12 hits next year. We are currently waiting for Dx12 games to be developed to actually test this. AMD is working hard to make its GPU's more competitive, and the recent R9-3## are already very good. Next year both Nvidia and AMD are going to release their new lineups with new architecture. The results of this might determine whether AMD can still compete at all or not.
Still looking for a good 1440p monitor. Any suggestions? Gotta be a good price.
It runs any game that exists at max settings at 1080p60 and it also runs a good majority of those games at nicer resolutions like 2560*1600 and it even runs some games up to 4k (not nearly as many, but if I can deal with 30fps it even does a few new games at 4k). Which is nice to have that kind of headroom, I feel pretty safe in not having to upgrade from a 970 at least as long as the current consoles are around.
Just bought a 970 today. Looking forward to using it and retiring my 6870 after 4.5 long years of abuse. The deal I got put me in a good spot to finish upgrading my computer sooner than I thought as well.
I haven't bought any parts, but I did update the build to something reasonably close to that on the last page. Also, the case is non-negotiable. I like that case, and I'm really weird about aesthetics. This isn't a total budget build, by the way. I'm sort of trying to part out a good new computer, something that'll last at least as long as this one, but be more reliable. And smaller. Significantly smaller. The 970's just a holdover until the next generation of VR-ready graphics cards.
Just replace the case with the one you wanted it's a difference of around $20-30 dollars; you do NOT need an SSD right now and you would enjoy the power of a 980 ti.

The deal I got put me in a good spot to finish upgrading my computer sooner than I thought as well.
Fantastic. You'll be super happy with it, I'm sure. It's possibly the best value card for 1080p/60+fps with no compromises in image quality. If you can tolerate a 30fps lock, you can even do brand new games like MGS5 and Fallout 4 in 4k. I know, 30fps is almost unplayable, but I mean hey, you're playing a brand new game at max settings at 4k on a single video card! Unthinkable just a few years ago.

The 970 is just a stopgap until the next generation of cards. The SSD is not negotiable, because I actually know what using an SSD feels like, and I don't want to go back. It's kind of irritating when someone doesn't pay attention to the reasons behind certain choices, and just blindly recommends what they think is best. If I wanted you to build me a computer, I'd ask you to. All I asked for were tweaks and concerns. Everyone else here seemed to understand the reasons behind my original decisions, and worked within that.

Hey guys, what do you think of this build? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FnwVkL The graphics card took a back seat, because the only game I play a lot is csgo. I definitely wanted to jump on the skylake platform. If I can change some parts to get a better performance to price ratio, I'd appreciate that.
Hey guys, I am looking for a new graphics card that is around 200$. I am mostly going to use it for gaming and maybe the occasional video. I am mostly worried about the power supply not being enough or the case not being big enough. I really have no idea what graphics card to actually look at, so I would really appreciate it if you could help me out. I'd highly recommend a better PSU
I'd highly recommend a better PSU
Had a restraining af budget for everything besides the GPU. The PSU supplies double the amount of used watts anyways.
It's not the wattage that's the problem, it's the quality of the unit. Do you have to order from amazon? [editline]25th November 2015[/editline] Give this a look. $10 cheaper alltogether too. Slightly better RAM, better PSU, and pretty much an identical HDD. so I just finally cracked and decided to get the XFX r9 390 at newegg. I've had good experiences with XFX in the past so I decided to stick with them, and the deal is great this black friday for the next few hours. this card went out of stock and came back in within the past few hours, and until 9PM PT you can get it for as low as 210 bucks if you use visa checkout and have an AMEX card. it's going for 289.99, with a 30USD mail in rebate, and if you use the promo code VCOBF15 while using visa checkout, it takes 25 off of that. if you happen to have an AMEX card it's another 25 off. i don't have an amex so all together it's going to cost me 235 (after MIR) for something that's been shown to outperform the GTX960 in basically everything with twice the VRAM, giving it a futureproofing edge for 4k/3d gaming. im pretty pumped, as it's my first upgrade in 4 years, since my 6870 which is still truckin like none other. only thing that's thrown a wrench in it so far has been fo4 after the jump up to 1080p.
