Well it's because I've been using a laptop with that GPU for about a year now :v
Dont even bother upgrading a laptop gpu. Usually it cant even be done. And if it can it will cost you a fortune to gain absolutely nothing.
I wish I had a computer for gaming.
So what is your question?
So after some thinking I've come up with this for a build. Still unsure on the mobo, still have no idea what the difference is between motherboards beyond what they can/cant fit on them. CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($299.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: Corsair 850W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($119.99 @ Newegg)
The difference between motherboards is reall small nowadays. Just stick to Z97. If you are only gaming on it, you can save a lot of money by just getting an i5-4690K instead of the i7. Or even upgrade to the i5-6600k and matching motherboard for less money. A 500 Watt PSU is enough.
Just waiting to close on this motherboard deal then I should be all good. Got my custom loop for my GPU/CPU up already. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/TKmvXL
right now the i5 4690k is cheaper than the 4690, if I buy the 4690k would I need to get a cooler for it, even if I don't plan to overclock?

Okay, so I went over the list and this is what I'm ordering:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($186.28 @ Micro Center) Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC MATE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($79.99 @ Newegg) Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($72.44) Storage: Sandisk SSD PLUS 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($59.99 @ B&H) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($64.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 960 4GB Video Card ($217.34) Case: Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case ($55.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($64.99 @ Amazon) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM (64-bit) ($92.99 @ Adorama) Total: $895.00 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-11-30 20:23 EST-0500
I'm getting the CPU, RAM and GPU from Micro Center and everything else from their respective websites. PSU is a bit shit. Lemme find a better.

There wasn't shit for SSD deals and that was was on sale for the same price as normal 500ish gig SSDs. Plus the warranty is absolutely great.
Okay, sweet, thanks Levelog! I'm finally going to order this stuff now
If I could get a double check to make sure all this is compatible, that'd be great. I'm mostly concerned about the Motherboard/CPU. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/TtT9kL

It feels really good when you finish ordering all the parts for your first build.
It feels really good when you finishing ordering all the parts for your first build.
Seeing everything unpacked is great too... and if it boots on the first try
Seeing everything unpacked is great too... and if it boots on the first try
I would have had it on the first try if I had turned my motherboard on. Otherwise it was all good on the first try for me.
when i was building mine, my hype was through the roof assembling it alltogether, go to click power on, nothing, that feeling of getting no result was depressing as fuck, later found out it was the PSU was DOA got a replacement and when I pressed it then, seeing all the lights and fans whirring to life. it can be argued that day was better than smoking hookah, weed, and many other things all at once. so now I have a desire to make more money just to spend to make more computers because fuck if it isn't a sweet feeling.

The mobo doesn't support 1866, but I believe it should drop it down to 1600 automatically, right?
You can also pick up a Caviar Black for the same price as the Blue, and get a better warranty (and I believe better quality). http://www.frys.com/product/7962250 "Special Price" is $49 Can't recommend that people check into /r/buildapcsales enough if they are building or upgrading or whatnot. Tons of stuff pops up every day, so it's worth checking out. Was really good during the Black Friday sales. [editline]1st December 2015[/editline] Lots of jet.com deals pop up there. Site may look like a fake thing, but its gotten tons of funding. They have had problems in the past with shipping out the wrong items as they don't handle products themselves, but you can get your money back of course. Lots of first-time promotions going on.
So I just put my PC together and have two questions. First, when I was attaching a 4790k to my motherboard I noticed there seemed to be a lot of of force that needed to be applied when pushing the lever down. When I removed the processor I noticed scratches on both sides of the outer processor (not the processor itself, those two white pieces that extend from the processor) where the clamps on the CPU socket make contact with the outer edges. Is this normal? Everything seems to be working fine. Also, I got the Hyper 212 EVO but I might have messed up installing it (it slid around quite a bit). I'm getting average idle temps of 30C, and the temp is staying at 60C under full load. Are these temps normal with this cooler? The temps also fluctuate a lot.... individual core temps change by ~2C every second, and when running stress testing the temps shoot up instantly.
So I/my step-father put together the PC build that was suggested to me here but with everything put together, when we try to turn it on there's naught but a red LED on the motherboard and we have no idea what to do. Is this the place to ask for help?

Check the CPU is seated correctly. If fans come on and then cut off when you press power, usually it's something like a memory module failing or in the wrong slot. The fact the LED comes on means your PSU is probably okay. It also means your motherboard is less likely to be dead on arrival. When you press the power button, does anything happen at all? [editline]2nd December 2015[/editline] That motherboard has an "easy debug" LED system. Describe the three LEDs when you hit power. [editline]2nd December 2015[/editline] Additionally don't panic: I've never built a computer that switched on the first time I tried it :v:

I only just learned there were more. We did just kind of stick the RAM in anywhere though.
I had my pc that i built still had the led come on but the PSU was fucked apparently, got a replacement and whooshed it worked. IIRC sometime PSU can give power but it never enough meaning there is something wrong with the psu but it gives enough power to make the led work and nothing else. So your PSU might be the issue but check everything else as eurocracy said.
