What do you guys think about Windows 10? Worth upgrading from 7? (Is this the right place to ask?)
Uh, were the agrees saying that it IS worth it to upgrade, or were people also wondering the same thing?
Any agrees on this post I'm gonna consider to mean it IS worth it :v:

At this point its a safe upgrade. If you asked this at release/august you might have had different answers.
There's always the odds that something will go wrong when you upgrade, but now whatever problems you may face will probably be well-documented online now. I had to do a lot of troubleshooting on my own because I upgraded as early as possible and the bugs weren't all known yet.

For the most part yes, just keep in mind that you've got absolutely no control over updates if you've got a 'Home' license

You can put off build updates indefinitely on home. Everything else does what it wants.
My stepfather fiddled around at the front, but no results. Parents are mad at me and this whole thing has become an unmitigated, and expensive, disaster. No one has any idea what the problem is and I have 0 idea what to do. I need some kind of a solution or it's pretty much the end of everything. This thread is the only place I can turn to so I'm begging for some way to fix this.
Like Cold said, chill out. Everything is under warranty, sometimes it just takes a while to work. Maybe let your step father read this thread as well.
The red LED next to the power connector indicates a general power failure of the motherboard. It cannot even boot its own troubleshooter. This usually means the PSU, Motherboard or Connection between them has a problem. Or you forgot the motherboard standoffs. (did you?)
However:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2768499/shows-signs-power-red-led-motherboard.html
In his case, the problem was that the CR2032 bios battery MSI delivered with the board was empty. Since this is easy to check, try another one first.
Then check the cables going from the PSU to the Motherboard are connected right. Pull them all out, and re-insert them (JPWR1 & JPWR2).
Also make sure to do everything cold asked you to do.
If all else fails, pull everything out and re-asseble it again. You might have screwed up the CPU placement, or forgot a cable or something.
If it still not working, RMA de PSU.
If that doesnt fix it, RMA the MOBO as well.
Yeah, I only used one stick of RAM through this whole process. Once I can get it to POST, I'll add the rest.
6: No, but...
I think its worth a try. The new GPU might be DOA and the old psu might be dead due to arcing.
Have you changed out that single RAM stick for another as well?
BTW its really weird that a mobo of that price and quality doesnt have a hex debugging display or even a debug led. While MSI motherboards 1/3 of the price do.

I got it to POST. Let it be known that buying a cheap PC speaker is worth its weight a thousand times over. Was beeping out a memory error, and it turned out I wasn't being as rough with the memory as I should've been. Once it seated in all the way, it went right to POST. Maybe resetting the CMOS helped, I dunno. Rest of the RAM was okay and both video cards are just fine. Just gotta plug everything else in and get it finished up. So relieved to finally get there. Thanks for the help!
I'm going to need to take a break from these computer shenanigans. I've saved everyone's advice.
I'm trying to come up with ideas on how to raise up some extra money for my upgrade. Does Newegg usually do Christmas/Holiday sales? I didn't have any money saved up on black friday/cyber monday but I might have some extra cash around that time. Is there any sort of market at all for used computer parts? I feel like I wouldn't get much money by selling my GPU/CPU/Mobo from my current setup, but I figure it's worth a try anyway.
EDIT: According to prices on Ebay, I could probably get enough cash from my old CPU/GPU to pay for the new Motherboard. I forget what brand of motherboard I have in my old setup, but that could also knock some cash off.

I was almost tempted to to get my case. But then I got my tax return.
Ugh so after 2 straight days of bullshit I've finally got my system up and running with my new build, and W10. It's pretty nice but I have two issues that I think are related to the motherboard and I can't figure out what's up. I'm using an MSI X99A mobo withan M.2 PCI-E SSD (Samsung 950P).
1. It boots really slow, relative to normal SSD speed. Pre-BIOS, it sits on a screen flashing some number-letter combinations on the bottom right for a solid 10 seconds at least, I'm really unsure what's up with that.
2. That leads me to the second problem: the SSD doesn't seem to be working as fast as it should be. The Windows logo takes at least 10-20 seconds. Used to be my SATA SSD would be my at my desktop in ten flat. Both Fast Boot and MSI Fast Boot in my BIOs settings always cause me to be unable to boot (I'm booting to the M.2).
I set the M.2 to PCI-E in my BIOs settings but I'm unsure what else to change, everything I see online refers to just comPLETELY different and random settings that I don't see anything like in my own BIOs. Any insight would be appreciated. I still don't know if I should be posting this here but it IS related to my newly build PC :v:

Have you tired updating your BIOS? I couldn't boot from my M.2 PCIe SSD until I updated it.

Yeah as far as I can tell I'm on the latest. I really feel like I'm missing something, I haven't seen anyone describe the BIOs for my particular Mobo but it seems really scarce of settings.
Speaking of which,
AHAHAHA! HAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHA! IT'S FINALLY DONE! AFTER WEEKS OF HEADACHES WITH SHIPPING AND RMAs.

With my MSI, I had to scroll to the right with my arrow keys to access what I call a "Normal" BIOS gui.
Put your LFE on the floor and maybe find L/R speakers :v:
whip out that swiffer duster too

Nice, your build is very similar to mine. You haven't had any issues with your M.2?
But yeah my BIOs doesn't do that, it's a shitty 'Click' BIOs (the mouse doesn't really work, I can move it around but the selection goes crazy). No idea how I might get to a traditional BIOs screen, I can't find anything online or in the manual.

Just a sec I'll PM you a video before I go to bed
Last time I'm going to ask this.
What would be worth more my money:
144hz 1080p or 1440p?

Guess it depends on your uses. If you play a lot of fast paced twitchy games 1080 144. I don't so my personal vote is 1440p. Or you can grab a qnix and get around 1440p 96hz

I probably would say 1080p 144hz
144hz all the way
I'm worried about going over a 60 Hz monitor because I'd get used to the 120/144 Hz desktop and then my graphics card would probably not be able to make games go that fast. Already had this issue when I was able to have games at 60 and now everything sub high 40s feels like ass.

can confirm. anything under 120fps looks like butts
I also really want another 980. I certainly don't need it but still :v:

Would this monitor be the one to go for? It seems to be the best of both words (1440p and 120hz possible). Anyone able to clarify for me?

I generally wouldn't rely on buying monitor because you can overclock it to a higher refresh rate - that seems a bit unreliable. Overall, it's a question of whether you want smooth motion or higher quality. With 1440p, it would be a question of can you even reach the framerates where 120hz would make a difference - or can you afford it.
This is the cheapest option with both 1440p and 120/144hz that I could find on Newegg. My personal recommendation is that if you don't want to break the bank, go with 1080p and 120/144hz - this seems popular in that area.. That's mostly my opinion, since I like smooth motion.
