So where/what's the cheapest you can get a cradle for a SSD to fit in a drive bay for a HDD?
So where/what's the cheapest you can get a cradle for a SSD to fit in a drive bay for a HDD?
I've seen people 3D print them at schools if you have access.
Not sure if this should be here but, how do I clean an old PC with a ton of dust in it properly? I know that canned air is one of the essentials but anything else?
I've seen people 3D print them at schools if you have access.
Not an option, sorry. Going to need to spend £money.
I've seen people 3D print them at schools if you have access.
Yeah i did the same at work. Im not paying 20€ for a piece of plastic. I designed my own but you can also find prefabs on: http://www.thingiverse.com/search?q=ssd&sa=
If you're set on replacing it, may as well go for a Hyper212 EVO
Love this cooler. Simple, effective, cheap.
Friend of mine said he got his 4790k up to 4.7 with the evo. Not sure if I believe him or not.
Friend of mine said he got his 4790k up to 4.7 with the evo. Not sure if I believe him or not.
If he got a good chip that can do 4.7 at a sub 1.3v I'd say its at the upper end of possible.
I'm too much of a pussy to OC. Plus my chip ain't unlocked. But it was literally a free 3rd gen I5 so idgaf.
So once I have enough dosh saved up (which should be a sizable chunk by the end of the month), I'd like to invest in getting a new PC, but the problem being I have no fucking clue where to even start, so I'd like to ask for some help from you guys
https://pcpartpicker.com is king, look at other example builds and guides, formulate what you might want and pick that way and once you feel like you have a build you would like to try, throw at us and we will throw our opinions at it.

I'm looking to upgrade my sister's computer for christmas. Probably a new GPU Here are her specs
CPU AMD Phenom II X4 830 31 °C Deneb 45nm Technology RAM 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 401MHz (5-6-6-18) Motherboard ASUSTeK Computer INC. M3A76-CM (AM2) 37 °C Graphics ASUS VH222H (1920x1080@60Hz) 1024MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series (Sapphire/PCPartner) 36 °C
Her PSU is 580W if that helps. What do you guys think I should upgrade?
Just want to post this again, and get some more opinions on it. Does this look fairly reasonable for a $1300 build? I know it's not on the newest Intel stuff, but I'm fine with that. I haven't seen a reason to upgrade. Spending that kind of money I would get an i5 with a 980 over the 970.
depending on what games she play farmville or actual games
Not farmville. She mostly plays Minecraft, but enjoys things like Garry's Mod and the newest sims, and I think she's picking up RPGs.
And a better psu. GS series evga is good [editline]8th December 2015[/editline]
Not farmville. She mostly plays Minecraft, but enjoys things like Garry's Mod and the newest sims, and I think she's picking up RPGs.
960 or R9 280
damn it the joke failed got a budget at least? she's gonna need at least a few upgrades and it would be better just to go with a mobo swap and gpu upgrade
Actually looked at the computer. Should get her a whole new one imo
damn it the joke failed got a budget at least? she's gonna need at least a few upgrades and it would be better just to go with a mobo swap and gpu upgrade
$200 CAD. A huge chunk of the system she's running (Motherboard, RAM and PSU) is from my first build 7 years ago. So I'm not sure if $200 will make much of a difference since I think she'll need an overhaul relatively soon. [editline]8th December 2015[/editline] Just saw your guy's "rebuild time" Guess I'll have to shoot for her birthday
Spending that kind of money I would get an i5 with a 980 over the 970.
The 970 is a holdover until the next generation of Nvidia cards, but the i7 is intentional. I do a lot of photo editing, and Lightroom isn't as optimized as it should be. I was recommended the PSU last time I was here, because it supposedly has better caps than the other EVGA I was looking at.

What are your antivirus suggestions? My family's been using McAfee since the late 90's since that was the only option, and I don't want that useless bloatware on my next computer.
What are your antivirus suggestions? My family's been using McAfee since the late 90's since that was the only option, and I don't want that useless bloatware on my next computer.
I use Windows Defender (formerly MSE) and regular scans with Malwarebytes. Usually does a pretty solid job, and with a little common sense, I haven't gotten a virus in years.

https://np.reddit.com/r/netsec/comments/3hr9f0/i_am_john_mcafee_ama/cu9vnjn MSE/AVAST + Malwarebytes is the goto combo atm. Does she plan on playing heavier games?
What is thermal compound and what's it for?
My new mobo arrived today, I ordered an intel chipped one, got amd :(((((((((((((((((((( 1 week to get to supplier and 1 week for them to send me a replacement :(
What is thermal compound and what's it for?
It is a grease that conducts heat super well and fills in every possible crack between your chip's heat spreader and the heat sink attached. essential. For real. Oddly enough you can also use mayonnaise if you just absolutely need something. [sp]don't do this. yeah it'll work, but just... don't[/sp]
