I mean you can't overclock much with the stock cooler. And that SSD is a bad choice. You're saving $2 for a massively inferior SSD.
Okay so this shouldn't have any problems I hope.

I just grabbed the cheapest high rated 1080 monitor.

I think I'm content with this build, I just ordered the i5 you linked. Thanks a bunch guys.
I can always rely on fp to help me with pc shit.
Hi Guys.
I need to buy a new PC.
Now the last one I built is 8 years old.
I need info about standards nowadays.
I figure the tower for the Asus P5B-E MoBo I have now won't meet the format standards for modern MoBos, right?
Also I have a somewhat usable Geforce GTX 460 768MB . The thing is I don't even know if PCIExpress is even used anymore on Mobos but it would be nice if I only had to order new Mobo, CPU, RAM and PSU

Nope, ATX still hasn't changed. Your case should be just fine. And yes, PCI-E is still used. Your graphics card is probably going to be very weak if you decide to keep it, just as a warning. Assuming you manage to sell your 460 for about $40, you need only spend about $160 to upgrade to a 960, which will double your FPS at least.
Greetings,
I upgraded my PC last year, just wondering if anyone thinks it'd be worth upgrading? I use it for gaming @ 1080p! CPU is overclocked on my current system, but can't really push it higher than 4.5 due to heat issues.
Current specs
CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K
Motherboard: MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate
GPU: MSI GTX 770 2GB
8GB RAM
I'm looking for some advice.
I want to upgrade my PC to be able to run GTA V on very high and was wondering if getting a gtx 970 is enough of an upgrade.
My current specs:
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Pro3
GPU: gtx 670
CPU: i5 3570K @ 3.40GHz
RAM: 8gb
With my 970 I can run it with everything maxed out including all the extra and advanced graphics features at 1080p with 30-60fps depending on the scene. You might not need to upgrade, as cutting out a few of the extra graphics settings gets me up to 60fps constant, which means that lowering the settings just a tad should have your card running it at 1080p 60fps
-snip- got some advice, editing made all the text disappear sorry about that!

Hey guys im about to show you the worst upgrade ever known by mankind. I was wondering why my 780ti was retaining 75% original value second hand.
No doubt this thing is going back to where it belongs in a store.
I'm pretty thick as bricks when it comes to the insides of a computer, so excuse me if i sound like a numbskull here.

Ignore the Motherboard's temperature at 128, i never figured out why that isnt been detected but i wouldnt imagine it's an issue if everything else is fine and dandy.
Is upgrading from a i5-2310 (Quad Core 2.9GHz) to an i5-4690K (Quad Core 3.5GHz) a sound idea? It came to my attention that they are going for £165.89 and i might want to consider that at some point soon.
If i was to upgrade my CPU to that, would have any effect with the voltage?

I know that the CPU in question comes with it's on fan and it has that thermal paste applyed already. Why would one buy that big Cooler Master fan? Is that for Overclocking?
Would there be any reason to change my motherboard from the one i have and is currently working fine with no issues whatsoever? (The ECS H61H2-M2)
if you get that cpu then yes, you need a new mobo as that cpu requires a different socket.
youll see a nice boost in performance.
I'm really torn on what GPU to get considering right now I don't play anything intensive. Does EVGA make the best 970 with their FTW+?
Trying to upgrade my Radeon 6850 to a 2gb (or higher) card. Someone suggested this on another forum. Worth it? Budget is about $350. 750 watt PSU atm.
With a budget like that there's no sense in getting something that can't max out games at 1080p. Get a 280x, or a 970 for a higher end card.
My only problem with the 280x is that it only has 1 DVI slot. The 970 looks pretty good though if I can avoid spending a full $350 it'd be nice.
There's an xfx 280x on sale for 209 on both newegg and amazon right now with 2xDVI, hdmi, and 2xminiDP

It says it needs a min. 750w PSU - since mine is bare minimum, would it potentially cause any problems?
750w is accounting for shit tier IED PSU's and should be ignored.

Graphics could be better, but unless you're noticing bad rates in any you use it for and it's really not affecting you, no reason to until you need it.
Same goes for RAM. If you want to play something like Star Citizen, definitely up it to 16 sometime. Depending on the specs of your ram, that may be buying all new 16 instead of just one new 8gb. It's a good time to get in to 1866 as of late.
I recently got a r9 280x and I put t into my computer, I'm 80% positive that I plugged the right stuff in and whatever, I went to start the pc and everything worked except I couldn't move my mouse, so I restarted my pc and then it just got stuck on the asrock splash screen. Then I restarted again and now it's just a black screen. Now I have to hold the power button down to o turn it off.. iirc my motherboard is asrock z77. Idk what's wrong, but I want to hope you guys know how to fix it
Alright, here goes nothing. A few years ago, I bought my computer pre-built from Newegg. It's an IBuyPower Azza something-or-other. Here's the deal: I recently bought GTA5 for PC, but it doesn't run too well. Also, I know nothing about computer hardware, I jumped into PC gaming pretty unprepared, and I've just been coasting with this rig, but now I feel it's time to upgrade. How do I do that? What parts will I need to upgrade to match the rest? I'd like to be able to run games like GTA5 at high settings, with a high framerate, sorry for being so inexperienced in this kind of thing, and thanks in advance.
Here's my Speccy:
best upgrade right now is a GPU upgrade
go straight for an GTX 970
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-04gp42974kr
That's what I was thinking, I've heard good things about it, but will I need to be worried about upgrading other components as well? Power supply, motherboard, etc.?
iBuyPower tends to put run of the mill parts in. Budget gaming if you will. They're certainly not the highest quality, but they're serviceable.
[editline]16th April 2015[/editline]
They're usually cheaper Antec Eco's or Corsair CX series
How would I go about gauging the quality of the PSU? Again, sorry for asking such basic questions.
quality of components(won't know till you crack it open voiding warranty also dangerous don't do this)
wattage
amps on the 12v
a model number of the PSU would be really helpful
Alright, I'll get on that in the morning, thanks!
Looking for some advice for possible upgrades to my current build

My plan is to pick up a GTX 970 once summer starts, and I also plan to grab a 24" BenQ monitor as well.
If anyone has some tips to improve my computer as a whole it'd be greatly appreciated.
You'd benefit from picking up a 4670k and Gigabyte Z97x-Gaming 5 if that's in budget.

I'd grab one if I didn't hate Intel CPU's so much. I used to use them and every time they'd crap out on me after a year. Switched to AMD and had no reason to switch back when they overclock so beautifully.
I should probably have said that I got the GTX650 for free, the power supply for free, as well as the optical drive and the HDD

I mean you're purposefully choosing inferior performance. There are no legitimate quality problems.
Also the 212 Evo fits like a glove, with room to spare in that case
5 years ago I 'made' a computer with a i7 960, 12gb of ram, and 2 gtx 570s. I hardly built any of it, and now I want to upgrade.
My budget's $2000, but I'm willing to push it a little higher. The idea is to have a computer powerful enough so that I don't have to upgrade for another 5 years, so this is what I have so far.

What I'm wondering is whether it's worth waiting until the R9 390x comes out. Keep in mind that I'd be playing at 1080p, though with specs like these 4k is easily possible.
