How have manufacturers not learned that doing garbage like that kills the format immediately?
Because dedicated Blu-Ray players are the predominant method of consumption! In fact, the PS3 is the entire reason Blu-Ray still exists, and wasn't totally killed by HD-DVD. It's such a restrictive format, whereas HD-DVD was much more open, but everyone has something in their house that can play it so it doesn't matter.
Also, the Blu-Ray Disk Association is literally a cartel of the biggest technology and entertainment companies.
Which graphics card would you all recommend that would allow me to run games like Dragon Age 3, MGSV, and Just Cause 3 on the high to ultra settings with a high framerate? I'm looking for an upgrade to my gtx 560 that will last me a while.
Thank you! I'm looking towards something like the gtx 960? Seems like a huge step up without destroying me bank account.

I can do MGSV on High with a 960, though JC3 is another story.

Might as well wait for Nvidia's Pascal (10XX GPU's) supposedly coming in Q2 2016, even if you don't plan on getting one since it'll drop the prices of all other Nvidia GPU's.

I hope it's more like XX00 so I don't end up with a GTX 1800
Isn't that just an Nvidia Quadro FX 1800, AKA not an actual GTX series card?
I hope it's more like XX00 so I don't end up with a GTX 1800
GTX 10XX would mean 1010-1090, and then the next series would be 1110-1190. The XX represents the relative power level and the 10 is the series. XX00 would give you a GTX 1800.
I finally figured out the real problem with my computer: The motherboard has some kind of problem with the RAM slots. RAM only works in slots 3 and 4, not 1 and 2. I'm assuming it's a bad idea to use a motherboard with a few faulty DIMM slots, especially considering it ruins the dual channel capabilities, so I'm gonna RMA it. How does Newegg handle returns? I want to try to get money back in my account that I can spend on a better board at a Micro Center.

Euhmm, usually the preferred setup for 2 sticks is slots 1 and 3. Some boards wont even work if you put 2 sticks into 1 and 2.
Check your user manual.

r9 380 - 380x.
Alright, finished ordering my build and it's in the shipping stages.
Only problem I have now is that there aren't any quality 144hz monitors under 300$ anymore.
The BenQ XL2411Z is out of stock so I either have to wait or buy ones over 300$+
Anyone know an alternative place to buy them at? I was looking forward to the BenQ one because my research shows that their anti-flicker software is far better than the ASUS equivalent.
EDIT: For reference, this is the rig I bought.

I'm getting started at looking at building a PC for myself. The things I'm taking into account are:
- Software-wise I use the Adobe Creative Cloud, primarily I'm concerned with Photoshop and After Effects.
- I don't play a lot of hardware-intensive games, plus I've never really had a powerful computer. That means that I don't really need the 60fps 4K Ultra High graphics, just something like smooth 30+ FPS on normal settings will be fine. Really I'm just looking for an experience where I don't have to drop the resolution to 720 and the graphics to [very] low just to avoid unplayable lag. Some examples of games I'd like to play well are MGSV and XCOM.
- Budget is under $1000, I'd like to keep it in the $500-$700 range.
Right now I'm looking at this $500 Beginner Gaming PC build:

Am I heading in the right direction at all? Like I said, I'm still starting out and although I'm doing my research a lot of this is still over my head. Which reminds me - What are some good resources for comparing what I need? I'm still a beginner at this sort of thing so I don't know the difference between, say, a Radeon R9 380 and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650. Even just a simple "this one is better" would be fine.
Nevermind, I decided to cut my losses and grab this later:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M8E0K06
Any thoughts?

The board says to use slots 2 and 4 first. I tried that, then 1 and 3, then a single stick in each slot. RAM does not work in slot 1 or 2.
So i got this motherboard

But I can not for the life of me find any place to put the cpu heatsink onto the motherboard
There are no holes for me to put the plastic bits in, nothing
i am done

There are 4 bigger, blacker screws, two above the CPU and two below the cpu slot. That's where it goes.

Yeah, that's your own fuck-up. Luckily, Amazon has a fantastic return policy.

Lol. How are we supposed to know you are installing an Intel cooler on that.
So I took apart my computer so I could RMA the mobo, and while I was putting away the processor I dropped it, it fell maybe like four inches. It's an Intel and it all looks fine so I'm not really freaking out, but is it really a big deal? Intel processors don't have pins and it only fell on cardboard so I don't think it can really get too badly busted.

You could probably hurl it at the wall without major damage. Don't worry about it too much.
Processors are solid-state circuitry etched into a silicon wafer, covered in heat spreaders and mounted on a PCB. There isn't anything in there a drop could damage.

Heaven/Valley Unigine is a pretty standard benchmark engine.
The Witcher 3 is about as good a workout(that actually deserves the horsepower it needs) as you can get in an actual interactive game.

I have a 4790k cpu, 8GB RAM and a 980ti card. Just bought an SSD, but I'm in the upgrading mood and not sure what to get next.
I was thinking of selling my 23" 120hz 1080p monitor and going to a 27"+ 1440p one for gaming. Would like a 21:9 monitor, but not sure on the 60hz.
I'll just get a new mechanical keyboard, my corsair k90 is conking out, realjy difficult to type on as it types multiple letters I don't want with each click.
For example, I'll write that previous line without editing the extra keystrokes

I currently have 3 25inch 21:9 60hz monitors, I'll say this, they aren't bad but get used to watching most videos on the internet in 16:9 aspect with black bars on the side except for the occasional video that fucking does it right in 21:9 and even if formatted for widescreen some time still shows in 16:9. more and more games are adding 21:9 aspect ratio, some older games are trickier and some new ones are, program like flawless widescreen program can help with a small assortment of games and some you are shit out of luck on, I like my 21:9 monitors, just know what you are walking to as I last checked on steam hardware survey we are like 1. something percent where most 16:9 are around 30 something percent. we are still a minority so we still get shafted a bit.
