So I'm looking to build a PC on a total budget of up to £1200 over 3 or 4 months. My current specs: Motherboard: Asus P5Q-SE2 PSU: Silver Power 650W CPU: Intel E8500 x2 @ 3.2ghz GPU: Nvidia GTX 550 Ti RAM: 4gb DDR (yeah I know) Storage: Some shitty hard drive from 2007(?) This is what I'm looking at [t]http://i.imgur.com/gxvQIF8.png[/t] So the idea is I want to gradually replace these components as I can afford them each month in order of priority, so it'd be: Month 1: ~£300 - RAM, Motherboard, Case, Cooling Month 2: ~£335 - CPU Month 3: ~£450 - PSU, GPU, SSD Question is whether there's going to be any compatibility issues between the new components and ones that will have yet to have been replaced (Particularly the new motherboard/old CPU), and whether you guys have any recommendations on alternate parts that might perform better for a similar price, as well as recommendations on cooling in general. Also if there's anything missing or incompatible on that list. Has to be Nvidia GPU and Intel CPU, the few AMD/ATi components I ever had had so many problems It might be worth me saving the grand up and buying the stuff all at once, but I'm an impatient person and unwilling to deal with my current computer's limitations for much longer. Oh, I'm willing to go over £100 for a case, but it'd have to be areel good case with regards to keeping dirt and shit out
IMO it's better to wait, save it all up, and buy as soon as you got the $$$. In regards to your build, it's mostly fine except for the PSU. Try for a new PSU. I would strive for at least 16 gigs of DDR4. And do you really need the i7? What is your goal for this build? If it is strictly for gaming you may be better off getting an i5 and replacing the 970 with a 980 or even a 980ti. If you plan on doing gaming alongside some productivity the i7 would be perfect. For me, cases are more for aesthetics over anything else. You're going to get shit in your case no matter how much you spend. Find a case you fancy and go for that, just make sure it also offers enough of what you need (USB 3 ports for example).
uh, how has NewEgg's shipping been recently for everyone? I ordered 6 parts from them with NewEgg Premier shipping and I just checked the reddit because my order was still packaging. Lots of disappointing stories about NewEgg shipping in recent memory, I was wondering if I'm fucked too. Yeah NewEgg may have been great back then as a small company but how are they now, corporate shills aside.
Where do you live in relation to Newegg? [editline]31st December 2015[/editline] Still rather impressive that I ordered at the end of day and it processed and shipped and arrived by 3pm the next. Especially 2 days before Christmas.
Isn't that just an Nvidia Quadro FX 1800, AKA not an actual GTX series card?
I mean you're got Quadro K620's and GT 620's, NVS 540's and GT 540's, it's never stopped them before.
Oooh apparently my case arrived earlier today, I'm a little surprised FedEx delivers on New Year's Eve but fine by me

I ordered a 970 at 3am monday morning, newegg sent it out that day and now UPS has it for ransom until the 3rd or 4th. But hey, atleast its in the same city as me. :v: Newegg has always done good for me and I've never had issues out of them. Also guys. Is it work jumping to skylake? I have the ram already for a 4790k build but I would have to get new ram for a 6700k build. Is it worth 200$ extra roughly for cpu + ram cost just to jump to the 1151 socket instead?

4790K and 6700K are almost the same unless you seriously want DDR4 and 64 GB of it
Will an I7 be any more futureproof than an I5?
nah not really, but you don't really have to worry about an Intel processor becoming obsolete honestly
Don't believe so, no. A 4790k will be good for ages.
Hell my AMD Phenom II X4 965 has now lasted me 5 years, as long as I get 5 out of this i7 I will be happy. I was just wondering if it was even worth the negligible price difference for no real performance gain. I appreciate y'alls help.
Is this motherboard a good fit for the rest of my build? I'm gonna grab one at micro center tomorrow. Are we due any refreshes in the CPU/ GPU market any time soon? I'm in the process of trying to work out what the hell I want to upgrade to in the near future as my PC just can't quite cut it to the level I'd like. Though I have no idea what to do with my old hardware as I literally have no space for a second PC, let alone a use for it. And I don't think the market for Phenom II 955BEs and GTX 460 (768MB) is actually a thing any more.

You'll be lucky in the next few months IMO. I'm foreseeing Pascal to be delayed quite a bit considering they don't even have first call on HBM2.
So my friend and I are building a very nice computer for our buddies recording studio and one of the requirements is that it must be able to use dual monitors. Now would any motherboard with more than one display port be dual monitor or would we need to buy a dedicated graphics card with dual monitor support? This is the build in question: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/tg7s4D thanks for the help.
Nah integrated graphics can handle both monitors easily and some more.
so it basically just depends if the MoBo has ports for more than one monitor? Thanks!!
I finally got all my software and drivers installed, put my PC on my desk in the bedroom, and out of nowhere my CPU heat sink fell off and landed on my GPU. It's just the stock cooler so it wasn't too heavy, and I guess I just need to apply more thermal compound and secure those brackets a little better. That isn't enough to bust a GPU, is it?
