How did your CPU cooler fall off your motherboard...
How did your CPU cooler fall off your motherboard...
if you're not careful with the intel stock cpu cooler you can bend the little plastic tips that hold it in / not put it in correctly without noticing anything's wrong

For headphones: Stay well clear of "Gaming"and"Surround" headphones. They are usually shit and overpriced. Get a proper pair of headphones like AKG's, Audiotechica ATH-50's, Grado's, Sennheisers or something. And use a seperate mic. If you really need a headset, Sennheiser has about the only good ones. 7.1 in headphones is 100% bullshit. [editline]2nd January 2016[/editline]
I finally got all my software and drivers installed, put my PC on my desk in the bedroom, and out of nowhere my CPU heat sink fell off and landed on my GPU. It's just the stock cooler so it wasn't too heavy, and I guess I just need to apply more thermal compound and secure those brackets a little better. That isn't enough to bust a GPU, is it?
You are better off mounting the cooler before you place the mobo into the case. Stock Intel coolers are notoriously hard to mount and easy to get wrong. Their engineers should read a poka-yoke book.

This aftermarket one I got a few months back works the same way but it has adapter pins you put in one way for Intel sockets and the other way for AMD sockets but it's still just push until it clicks. It's almost as big as a Hyper 212 but there is no backplate so it was a bit concerning.

And they're really loose and shift on you. Oh and they're cheaply made so the pins often get stuck in the forward position or the tabs get blocked so the pin can't lock.
Skylake happened relatively recently, Zen is somewhere on the horizon if you insist on sticking with AMD, and the new Nvidia architecture is supposed to happen in the next few months, and it's supposed to be like 2x faster than the current generation and play a lot nicer with DX12
Honestly not massively fussed about which vendor I work with, if AMD are offering acceptable stuff for the price I'm likely to stick with them though...it was one of the main reasons I bought this 955BE eons ago. Super cheap compared to the Intel equivalents. As long as AMD have finally upped their driver game a bit, I'm not too concerned about switching back to them. My last AMD GPU was a Radeon 4670, so it's been a long ass time. My only concern when looking at builds is price/performance really, I don't need the highest of the high end or "future proofing". When the time comes I'll just overhaul again. I'm currently looking at building something a bit smaller than what I have (an Antec 300) as some form of portability would be nice until in-home streaming can handle shitty routers. If there's a chance Zen will get AMD out of their current rut, I might just hang on a bit and see where that goes. If it goes nowhere then at least prices might drop a bit still.
Any good case with great cable management under 100$ that supports a dual size radiator? My case currently is making weird noises, and i think it's because the hard-drives aren't stable enough.
I took out the front fans of the Corsair 750D and can't figure out how to put them back in and feel like stabbing a motherfucker, how do I get the long fan screws to stay? I used to short ones for the back exhaust one.
-snip- wrong thread
My mistake with the fan was that I couldn't get the pins to click when I put the fan in, so I just rotated the screws myself and shrugged it off. I don't need to remove the motherboard though because there's a little window on my case that lets me check the pins to make sure they go in right. [editline]2nd January 2016[/editline] I reinstalled the fan, it seems pretty secure now. Does it matter if the black parts of the pins don't all go all the way? They're all anchored in pretty well, but I can't seem to get them all clicked in to the same extent.
do 4k ultrawides exist? if so, how many human souls will it cost me? would DP even support even that?

Hi, forgive me if this is an insanely stupid idea but I am trying to build a computer that can CAD and play racing/flight sims at medium settings and solid framerate inside the case of a long dead Dreamcast. I already have most of the computer and have been using it for a while: its an i5-5250U 1.6 Ghz with 8gb of ram on an intel NUC board. It has enough processing power and memory for what I need, but gsince it relies on integrated graphics it does poorly when anything needs to be rendered. As for airflow, I am planning on removing the disk drive of the dreamcast, mounting the card horizontally flush with the disk slot, and replacing the slot with a large case fan. The modem attatchment area will serve as another point of ventilation. Since this is the first time I have done anything like this however, I have no idea how I am going to power the graphics card without a weird power supply setup or (horror of horrors) two seperate power bricks, and I also have no idea what graphics card to get. I was pointed by a friend towards the Zotac GTX 750 Ti, but I don't know whether that is too little or too much for what I need. I've tried reading as much as I can, but I must be really dense because I still have no idea what card I need or how I will wire the nuc board and card together without a normal PSU.
Depends on the sims I guess, but I don't think a 5250U will be enough to run newer sims on medium at a good framerate. I didn't think that the PC has any slots for GPUs to go into, though? Unless you plan on something external.
Well shouldn't the graphical side of it be handled by the graphics card? If I run DCS world with a bunch of crap going on but without rendering anything it runs fine, but even on the lowest graphical settings I get about 20 fps with just the plane alone in the hangar. As for connecting graphics card im also stumped how to do that. If I remember right there is a mini PCIE slot in the board but I will have to double check.
Should have just got a gigabyte brix model that has a dgpu
Hey guys, I'm trying to help my brother to pick parts for his new gaming build, and I'm not an expert when it comes to hardware stuff, so what do you think of these parts? Would I be okay keeping an Antec HCG-520? PCpartpicker shows an estimated wattage of 350 for my new build, and I kind of just spent what I was going to spend on a power supply on a new coat. The Intel NUC takes an 19 volt input, which i guess makes it exceptionally hard to replace its powersupply with something else. So you're pretty much stuck with some kind of 2 power supplies setup. Its pretty much the same concept as home made external gpus for laptops. Its a a pretty scary path you're going down tho, from when people did this with laptops it was kinda hit and miss.
