Me and my dad both did a full rebuild on an OEM key and it swapped over without calling Microsoft, you might get lucky so definitely try it first.
Ok, I'll talk to my brother about that CPU thing, I think his intention was to possibly overclock. With 6600K we'll need to add a processor cooler, right?
Why AMD 380 is better than Nvidia 960?
Ok, that Samsung SSD is just 20€ more, I think we'll switch to it.
My brother's old computer is Windows 7 PC but it has the OEM version. I thought it wasn't possible to swap OEM version to another computer?
-You usually can, I did this once as well: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1702524/upgrade-motherboard-oem-windows-serial-key.html
-The 380 just shows slightly higher fps across the board, especially on 1080p+ resolutions.
-If you want to save money, the Crucial BX100/200 is fine as well but cheaper and only slightly slower than the 850 EVO.
-You don’t really need an other CPU cooler now. I usually buy one when I want to start overclocking. Usually 2-3 years after buying the cpu.

Unlocked skylake processors don't come with coolers any more. Most of them never got used.

Ah yes thats true. Part of Intel's milk the consumer while AMD is in the shitter, scheme.
What's a good build that can run Star Citizen?

Okay so now the build looks like this:
http://i.imgur.com/LbDe5OH.png
The gtx 960 is still there, because it's a part of that bundle which saves about 50 euros, so it might not be worth it to put 50 euros more for the amd 380... The gpu is anyways upgradeable pretty easy later on? My dad's gonna pay so I'm trying to keep it as near 1000 euros as possible.
How do the parts look like now?
the 6700K is the one that's the same price, has all the same features, clock speed, and is an i7
The 6700k is around $80 more than a 4790k at the moment. With slightly more expensive DDR4 and a decent mobo there is a reasonable difference in price if you're building now.

Please show me this magical place you're finding a 6700k for the same price as the 4790k he has in his build.
How much better is DDR4 with an i7-6700K versus DDR3 with an i7-4790K? I'm trying to justify going on with DDR4 rather than DDR3, but I haven't found anything that points to it being good enough to choose over DDR3 & i7-4790K

hardly enough of a difference to warrant the price increase imo.

The way I look at it, if you already have DDR3 RAM and/or a 4790k; don't bother putting down a premium just to upgrade.
Some people act as if previous architecture is dead now with DDR4 RAM being more affordable, but I say don't buy into that.
If you're starting from scratch, maybe Skylake is for you, but good luck finding decent prices at this point in time.
Quick question, do most modern pc's come with WiFi built in or do you have to buy an adapter? I've been using a laptop for so long I've not kept up-to-date with that kind of stuff.

I got basically the same motherboard you have listed and honestly it's not that great. Mine was somewhat DOA so my opinion of it's probably skewed, but the motherboard is definitely not a part you want to skimp on price-wise. I ended up switching it out for a $150 ASUS, and it's definitely worth the extra price.
Nothing really wrong with that board, but I'd personally suggest looking at some other options.
I'm sorry joey but you just basically wasted money because you got a lemon and didn't just RMA it. Shit happens with every single manufacturer.
I'm having it all built and tested by the German guys so hopefully it will be grand.
I did RMA it, I'm just waiting for the money to come in :v:
I mean just a normal RMA for a new one. Instead you unnecessarily spent more money on a different one. Don't encourage others to waste money.
When looking at motherboards nowadays theyre all pretty much the same. MSI, Gigabyte, Asus, etc are all perfectly fine boards. In the end it just comes down to personal preference.
Hey folks, working on my first build (gaming, video/image editing PC) and would appreciate some feedback:

A few things:
* Motherboard is replacing this one - I got some sort of compatibility warning about a lack of forward USB 3.0 ports on the motherboard. How necessary is that to fix?
* Not especially attached to the case at all, open to recommendations on alternates if needed.
* I used this build as a base, kicked up the graphics card and tweaked a few other things as a result.
Nah there are features that some other boards do better then other boards.

YES. Avoid ASRock. At all costs. My current PC uses an ASRock motherboard, has since I got it, and I didn't realize when I got it that the firmware in this board is all screwy, and it won't actually POST if the keyboard and mouse are plugged into the wrong USB slots. It's also constantly frozen due to motherboard-based errors since the warranty ended, and it's only getting worse. It's been infuriating to work with, and I'm glad to be getting rid of it.
I'd go with Skylake and a DDR4/set of DIMMs

Gamers always tend to go for the newest and best. But Haswell Refresh is super cheap right now, and performance is pretty much the same as Skylake. The biggest improvements to come from Skylake are integrated graphics updates, the new Iris hardware is actually pretty fantastic. If you're not planning on using the integrated graphics, though, like most of us, then it's a totally worthless investment.
But we gamers love to piss away money, don't we?
at least assrock isn't biostar

The Skylake is already more expensive for minimal performance gains compared to Haswell. Leaving out the cooler ups their margins even more.
What's a good build that can run Star Citizen?
SAFE BET: i5-4690K/6600K + AMD 390 + 8GB RAM.
EXPLAINATION:
We don’t really know yet. An Nvidia 970/ AMD 390 +4670K combo seems to run the arena commander matches (Max 8 ships) at 60 fps. But the Persistent universe(PU) Alpha, where you are in actual space stations with 50+ ships runs like shit for everybody (even dual 980Ti's). Because the FPS is linked to the server tick rate. I have a 970+4670K and the max FPS I ever saw in the PU is 50. However when the server got more loaded, it dropped to 20.
This will get fixed soon, and then we can tell you more accurately. However since they use extremely high res textures I would recommend the AMD390 8gb instead of the 970 4GB. Star citizen is already at 3.5Gb Vram use now.
If you want to do VR I would wait until the next generation of cards (summer 2016). They are predicted to a lot better in that area, and generally be wholly different than the last few series of cards.
