What I'm wondering is whether it's worth waiting until the R9 390x comes out. Keep in mind that I'd be playing at 1080p, though with specs like these 4k is easily possible.
Take my words with a grain of salt, for I am no expert, but when I was researching graphics cards, the performance of two 970s appeared to greatly exceed a single 980 in all benchmarks and games, so I would look into that for sure. Also, i7s are a waste of money for gaming, since games don't take advantage of the hyperthreading, so I would get an i5. That extra $100 will be better spent elsewhere. So if you've got the extra cash, this PSU has a 10 year warranty, and you seem like a long term sorta guy. But listen to Levelog, he's the smartest and I might be wrong about something.
I need to upgrade because gta 5 runs at 10-20 fps at low in windowed mode
Current computer (5 year old)
CPU: Amd x6 1055t 2.8 ghz
MOBO: Gigabyte 890fxa ud5
RAM: 8GB corsair vengence
GPU1: Sapphire 5850
GPU2: Sapphire 5850
HDD: Spinpoint f3 1Tb
SSD: Kingston hyperx 120 gb
Cooler: H50
PSU: Corsair 650HX
Case: Silverstone ft02
The only things I can reuse is the case, Ram, psu and hdd's
The upgrade I'm going for
New cpu: i7 4790K
New motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X UD3H (Don't know if there are anything better)
New gpu: Gigabyte gtx 970 g1 windforce
New cooler: Corsair h75
More ram: Corsair vengence 8gb (have 16 in total)
How does it look? is this going to run gta 5 at ultra?

My friend has said that GTA 5 uses 16+ Gigs of RAM on highest quality settings.
I'm also not sure if a 970 is enough to run on max - it will probably run great with a few settings (like grass / shadows / AA) knocked down.

Edit: if only the clock speed is the difference then what's the point? Can't you do that yourself? What is this.
I'm almost fine with my current computer, but I'm going to upgrade it with the R9 290 and the PSU listed down below.
I figured if my old computer just doesn't do it for me, I'll finish off the rest of the build - the only reason I want to upgrade my gpu and psu is just because of Star Citizen lol.
What do you guys think of this list?

I only have 8GB of RAM and a 970 and I can run GTA V with every setting maxed at 1080p at around 30-60fps. Knocking down a couple of the extra advanced settings in the extra graphics menu brings me up to 60fps constant. But I'm cool with 30 so I leave them on.
So yeah a 970 is sufficient for 1080p. However, a 980 would be that much better, if you prefer a single card solution, and 2 970s is even better than that, if multiple cards is okay with you. Also keep in mind the game will be continually updated for at least the next couple years and performance will inevitably improve.

Clock speed doesn't really mean much. My stock clock speed is 1101mhz, which nets me 110fps in msi kombustor (furmark), and a stable overclock of 1501mhz nets me 120fps. So the difference is negligible. Creates a ton of excess heat though and doesn't seem worth it to me. Might as well just run it stock.

I wouldnt get a 2011 socket CPU for gaming. They are more for servers and workstations And 2011 mobo's are overly expensive, while lacking features. I wouldnt get an i7 alltogether actually, because games dont really benefit from HT yet. With DX 12 coming, they might do soon tough. So with your budget, go for it.
Get an i7-4790k and a Z97 mobo.
ALso Im not a fan of 5 year builds. I would actually just get a 970 now, and with the money you saved. Buy a new card in 3 years that blows the 980 out of the water for half the price.

Hey guys, just a quick question. We just made a gaming build at my school, and it's having some issues. The Ethernet on the mobo (ASRock 970Extreme3 R2.0) doesn't seem to work, and when I connected speakers, the mouse and keyboard stopped working until I did a hard reset. Any tips/did we screw up?
I installed the LAN Driver on the DVD and we're working on getting an updated one. We can't just get a Wifi card because Steam/Origin/FP/Whatever is blocked with a Meriaki beacon system.
Here's the entire build reference, not bad for a school-funded rig:

It's already purchased and built, so there's no use in telling me about how bad the parts are.
I have to render a lot of stuff and work with tons of polygons and my current build is starting to struggle, I quite liked the build off the front page so took that and made some tweaks. I'll be buying this unless someone can suggest any changes? It's all going in a Thermaltake level 10.

Got my rig up and running (Just need to organize the cables but it's good to go I think)
It took me forever to get the cabling right but let me give first timers a warning
If you can, get a fucking modular or at least a semi-modular power supply. It may seem like nothing but the main power cables are fucking bulky and if you want anything resembling organized cables, you'll want ones that aren't stuck to the fucking PSU.
Also if possible check how easy it is to manage cables with your case. My one isn't that great so I'll need to improvise a bit.
What mobo do you have? Why do you feel you need to upgrade it?
Currently have a Z68MA-G45. I got a 280x and it's not playing nice with it. Also the SATA ports and PCI slots are in awkward positions which make it a pain in the ass to use.
I'm thinking to build myself a new PC but I've never done it before (on my own anyway, my brother helped with the last one). My current one is a couple of years old, and whilst it still holds it own for the most part, I think it's worth upgrading. I'd be playing a range of games, from CS:S, Killing Floor, and slightly older stuff like that up to recent stuff like GTA V and hopefully Killing Floor 2 when that comes out. I also want to do a bit of basic audio recording, nothing in depth with a million channels, just a USB interface with one channel recording at a time. I'd need a ground up build, except for hard drives and maybe the power supply (750W, a good few years old but it's still holding out fairly well).
I'm currently running a Core i3 (can't remember the clock speed), GTX 460, 4GB RAM, MSI Military Spec II motherboard. Ideally I wouldn't want to spend more than about £800 or so. I'm not bothered about maxing out games, as long as they can look and run good then that's what matters to me.

For a H110i GT you'll want 140mm fans. As for best 140mm fans, they really don't hold a candle in general to their 120mm counterparts. But I'll link the top three choices for you.
