Bought an HDD, it broke down 3 months later. Bought a new one 2 weeks ago, broke down aswell. Tried Toshiba and WD, and I'm getting real pissed about this because I've lost 800 GB at total, 2 months of hard work on 3D-Animation, and spent 160 euro on this shit. Care to share any good HDD that actually last more than a year? [editline]29th January 2016[/editline] And yes I should had backed up my work, hard lesson learned and I hate myself over it, god fucking damn it

I'm thinking about making a NAS server from an old computer too. It has two hard drive bays, and I think I'll use it to store archived files and my huge photo library. Should I just get one or two Caviar Blacks? Are they the most reliable HDDs for remote storage and backup?

Get Seagate NAS drives for a solid storage solution, or WD RE's for a higher performance and more expensive option.
It lives! Again! Got my motherboard today, a whole weekend ahead of schedule, so that's exciting. Everything booted first try, and I'm installing drivers now. It actually installed Windows faster than it took to put Windows on the USB stick I installed it from.
Fuck. Fuck. I fucked it up. Dammit. I misread the RAM amount when I bought my parts. For some reason, GSkill thinks it's a good idea to make one of their RAM products "8X28GB." Now, if that's not a whole load of gibberish that, upon first inspection, doesn't make you think it's a 2x8GB kit, I don't know what does. Oh well. Guess I'll try popping my old DDR3 in, since I'm a moron who clearly can't buy computer parts. Dammit, man... I thought I had this.
maybe someone else should be doing this for you mate [editline]29th January 2016[/editline] because a quick google says "gskill 8X28GB" is not a product that exists
You know, I've built five or six computers before this one without any hitches at all. I've built them for friends, and relatives, and everything has worked absolutely fine. Why is the first one I build for myself in five years a colossal train wreck?
Ports on the mono are for integrated graphics Cooler should not be an issue If you are just using it for gaming the i5 should be sufficient
Thanks It will mostly be for gaming, emulation and a bit of coding.

My GPU died the other day and forced me to order a new one. The new one just came in today and it's been working great so far. Much more powerful than my last. Only downside to my build now is my CPU. Could definitely use a newer model. Updated the OP with a quick-list of recommended PSU lines. Updated builds to come sometime that I'm not so lazy.
Okay, I've been in and out of this place for a while and things keep getting in the way of me upgrading my PC. Fortunately, around mid-February I'll be able to finally buy my new parts (hopefully) so I wanted to run my list by you guys. I need a new GPU, CPU and Mobo, and I want to try and get the best parts I can for at or under $400 USD. I have this list now, would you guys make any changes?

Thanks. Would it be a good idea to go for an i3 instead of an i5? I was thinking that would lower the price of the upgrade without sacrificing too much power (some of the sites I've looked at claim the i3 4170 is only slightly less powerful than the i5 4460 while being almost $50 USD cheaper), and that the 380 would make up for the difference.
I'd recommend keeping with an i5 unless you absolutely have to drop to an i3. The 4460 could save you a couple bucks.
-snip, decided to go with the i5 4460 and switch the GPU to a GTX 960 4gb.
-snip, decided to go with the i5 4460 and switch the GPU to a GTX 960 4gb.
The 380 is better.
I've tested a bunch of seasonic psus (high end 150€+ models) and every single one of them had coil whine. The tech support guy said it's unavoidable in europe due to this regulation (http://eco3e.eu/regulations/erp-directive/). He also added a better explanation but it went over my head. Cheap psus don't always comply with it so they often don't have coil whine at all. So where is the middle ground?
Im pretty sure thats bullshit. That directive just tells manufacturers that they should do their best to make their product energy efficient in both usage, manufacturing and packaging.
Burst Mode? Is that like Blast Processing?
White cables and led kit arrived this morning. The led stripe was surprisingly easy to install. [T]http://i.imgur.com/v6AgfP5.jpg[/T]
How hard would it be to mod a gigabyte windforce r9 390 to get rid of the stupid blue windforce led logo? I'm starting to dislike it.
So now that my PC is back to working with it's new GPU I've been working on a list for replacing my Motherboard and CPU. So far this is what I've come up with and it seems promising, opinions?
bad you're going backwards let me do a full list also AMD CPUs don't perform well in certain games, advise not getting an AMD CPU whats your budget
How is it backwards? Everything is compatible. As for budget this is something that I'll be saving up for in the future so I don't really have one. And to be fair it's a pain picking out a CPU when they all have different numbers and they don't mean anything.
Hell you could just pick up a locked i5-3570 and be set.
more cores does not equal more performance games won't actually take up 8 cores like the fx8350 has amd can't single thread as well as intel can intel also has optimization down intel also performs better you could keep your i5 2300 or pick up a second hand 2500K and a water cooler, get a better case, get a z77 board and overclock the crap out of it, have very close performance to a overclocked 6600k from intel(6600k at over clocks is slightly better in gaming benchmarks) seriously stay where you are now on the intel sandy bridge(2XXX line of CPUs) and upgrade your GPU more you'd get more performance out of a GPU then a CPU and it's worth staying intel otherwise you're wasting money that could be spent on a much better GPU or other components
Oh well thank you for the information. That'll save me tons of money!
I've never had liquid cooling so I'm not so sure about it.
