pre made AIOs are easy to install

and its a pretty cool one too if you do it right
Won't be happening in the case I have right now. I didn't even try to manage the cables. I should probably remedy that when I have time. But to be fair the Blackbone sucks for space. There aren't many places to put cables. And I learned the hard way that none modular power supplies tend to take up plenty of space too.
I've never had liquid cooling so I'm not so sure about it.
I picked up an H60. It works great, and it was super easy to install. My temps haven't gone above 45C at 4.5Ghz, which is super impressive.
I had a Blackbone, and there was far more room in there than there is in the Air 240 I've got now, so you shouldn't have any issues installing an AIO in there.

Any recommendations? Shooting for around $1600. Not too sure on the CPU. Stuck on either this or a 6700k.
My computer has no built-in wireless functionality, and I use a wireless printer. This particular printer can't print both wirelessly and through wired connections at the same time, So I'm stuck having to get a Wi-Fi card. What's the cheapest possible windows 10-compatible wireless PCI card I can install exclusively for contact with a printer?

That's crazy unbalanced. What are your uses?
That's crazy unbalanced. What are your uses?
Gaming primarily. The 960 is only a temporary card until Pascal comes out. I plan on handing it down to my brother when I replace it with the Pascal titan card. Not really sure about the rest if any of that is unbalanced. I plan on OC'ing the 5820k to 4ghz+ (still open on thoughts about that CPU choice).
Pascal is obviously not included in the budget.

Return the GPU and get an AMD r9-390. Your whole build is fine but the GPU is definitely the weak-point.

-Might wanna get an AMD r9-380 4GB instead. It will perform better than the 960.
-And drop the PSU down to 500 Watts
-In my opinion the price of the 5820K is totally not worth it if its just for gaming. I would drop down the CPU to a 6600K and a Z170 Motherboard.

I honestly think he should increase to an 850w evga. Especially if hes going to get a pascal titan and possibly oc/sli them in the future.
The 5820k is also a great cpu, if he goes for the new titan, thes the very real plausibility of hitting a bottleneck in sli, it already happens with most 980ti sli builds with a i5. Of anything else, he should go with a 256gb ssd while theyre so cheap.
Decided to finally buy a Dremel to carve out a hole for my fan controllers.
[t]http://imgur.com/Xu0FSGy.jpg[/t]
Tools I used.
[t]http://imgur.com/kzdsryO.jpg[/t]
Measured my controllers to be 4x1". Added a 1/8" for the rim of the plastic.
[t]http://imgur.com/WMEZV1h.jpg[/t]
The rough cutout.
[t]http://imgur.com/IJmwTWD.jpg[/t]
It's not the cleanest, but it certainly gets the job done. I originally planned on having the bottom one flipped, but I just happened to put it in like that and rolled with it. I'll probably go through later and clean it up.
Also, I highly recommend eyepro and long sleeves if you do do this. The plastic gets hot and can be painful.

Weak point? I'm running every game on ultra 1080p with no issues at all. This thing is amazing!
Also nice case mod, but the color tones look outta place(between the control fans front plate and your 5 quarter inch bays covers).
I agree, the bay covers are like a stainless-steel-pattern matte black, so it'd be fairly difficult to match it, but at the very least they sorta match the glossy black behind the front plate.

Honestly? The 960's a fine holdover card. It's about a 770-780 in performance, leagues ahead of the 560Ti I've been using for the past five years. As long as you're getting good frames and good performance, don't worry about it and just grab a Pascal when you can.
Although, if I were you personally, I'd pay $50 more and grab a 970. I think you'd get more mileage out of that.

I've been able to play my favorite games maxed at 1080 since I got it, and I don't plan on upgrading it until I make major upgrades to my system. It's a great card and it works like a champ, but I guess it's not the best choice for people who want absolute maximum performance. I play a few games and run Adobe products and it's more than enough for me.

I'll check into the 380. Just not currently a big fan of the whole AMD experience. I had 3 laptop GPUs fry on me in the last 2 years.
The PSU is at 1000W for SLI Pascal Titans, just in case. Plus heavy OC on anything I can get to OC.
The price of the 5820K isn't the issue, it's the performance of the 5820K vs the 6700K.

I think with the higher PCIe lane count that the 5820K has over the 6700K, I should be safe for SLI Pascal (hopefully?). I already have two 256GB SSDs that I will be transfering. PSU I explained above.

[del]Noted.[/del] (PCPartPicker is showing $100+ for an upgrade from 960 to 970, I think I'll skip on that)

Still concerned about the CPU issue though. My thoughts are that with the advent of DX12 coming, the 6-core 5820K will see better gains than the 6700K because of more cores, which is something DX12 is utilizing more of. Overclocked, I can match the 6700K clock speeds.
Also, what is the reputation of ASRock mobos? I don't really want to have to dive into some ASUS deluxe price range, but I don't want a mobo that is going to eat shit in 4 years either...

Overclocked 6700k vs 5820k though you're still probably going to end up with more performance with the 6700k. Get that. Plus the 5820k still doesn't have enough lanes for 2 full x16 lanes, so that point is moot unless you're going 3way SLI.

The thing I don't understand about PC building is that it's nearly impossible to know how well a piece of hardware will perform without putting it together and comparing it yourself.
My GTX 960 works great. It's leaps and bounds better than the Radeon HD 6870 I was running before. When I selected the GTX to replace it I went by just 3 things. 1, it was compatible with my current set up. 2, it had an extra GB of vram, and it was slightly higher on clock speed.
All of these variables told me that it was better than what I had and what I had was already not bad. I love my graphics and I much prefer running my games at their max settings and 60fps, but I also don't see a point in going over board when I don't need to.
If I ever decide to build a true gaming rig with serious hardware then I might take into consideration that my current GPU isn't up to snuff.

Anyways, here's my full recommendation. Basically just picked the 6700k, a motherboard that'll be able to handle whatever the chip is capable of, and a better quality PSU.

I'd also still recommend a 380(x). Just because you had 3 laptop GPU's fry (which means it was most likely a shitty implementation, because that has to do with how the laptop manufacturer handled the heat output) doesn't mean much for a desktop card with a newer GCN version.

Pricing barred me from going into the 380X, not really captured by the 380. I had the XFX PSU that was recommended earlier, but swapped it out for straight SeaSonic instead. Thank you guys for the input!

Taxes hurt :(

Im cannibalizing an old mAtx mini tower for the case fyi. What I'm concerned about is the r7 370's power draw. Will 430 W be enough to not be power throttled?
Friend wants to build a PC for about £1000. Doesn't need windows, mouse or keyboard.
I did the best I could, but wondering if you could improve on things?

He chose the SSD. Samsung is the only one I go for, but he picked Kingston.

Looks good, some remarks:
-You dont need the hyper 212 cooler on a cpu that cannot overclock.
-Get a Samsung 850 or Crucial Bx100 or mx200 SSD instead of that kingston (they are lying bastards)
-The AMD r9-390 is slightly faster and has twice the Vram which is getting more and more important these days. The 970 uses alot less power and has shadowplay though.

Yeah its fine. The quality of that PSU isnt great, but should be fine if you dont plan to upgrade or overclock.
If you want a better one see the list on the first post of this thread.
Something like a: XFX TS 430W should do fine.

My current rig is pretty okay but I skimped out on a couple things to try to save money.
Well now I have the funds to unfuck what I fucked, so I need help.
I need a new CPU cooler because I'm still using the stock one that came with my i5 4690 like an idiot.
Everything's stuffed into a Rosewill Blackbone ATX-Mid case with a 600w PSU, and current specs if it really matters.
Price range: Below $60 US, would prefer to purchase from Newegg or Amazon. No water coolers please.
Extra question: Can thermal paste expire? I've had the same tube of arctic silver I've only ever opened and used once and closed right back up for a couple years, is it still safe to use the same tube?
TIA

Anything more than a CoolerMaster TX3 or T4 is way overkill for a locked chip like that. It'll come with serviceable thermal paste.
