[QUOTE=Xanoxis;47599921]Sounds like your friend have no idea what he says. [/QUOTE] Let's just say I could be a shitty interpreter of my friend's tech advices then
I'm struggling to choose a case to go with for a mini ITX build, my 2 main choices are Thermaltake v1 [url]http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/products-model.aspx?id=C_00002373[/url] or Coolermaster 130 [url]http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mini-itx-elite-series/elite130/[/url] Does anyone have any experience with these? Or any other suggestions for small mini ITX cases under £40

All the cable work can be stuffed underneath the motherboard area so a completed build will look quite clean! It's a cube though, wider than my Define R5 so if desk space is a premium then perhaps look into the Coolermaster? Front fan is huge (and quiet if set to minimum RPM) but likes eating dust so the front mesh tends to go grey quickly, however.

[QUOTE=Richy19;47603484]Is the fan included? I thought it didnt come with any fans[/QUOTE] Yeah, front 200mm fan is included.
Now here's a question. When I finally finishing building my computer, would would I install Windows? Will a USB optical drive work just fine?
[QUOTE=Levelog;47599880]Alright, just don't expect to do too much overclocking on that board. I'm also doubting the utilization of USB 3.1. I feel like it's going to be skipped over in favor of type C, I don't think we're going to see many 3.1 devices at all.[/QUOTE] How come the Z97-A isn't good for OCing?
[QUOTE=ItsMozy;47605615]How come the Z97-A isn't good for OCing?[/QUOTE] It's fine for light OCing, it's just got only 4 phases of a non top end VRM.
Question. If I'm buying an i5 4690k, why do I have to buy a separate cooler if the thing comes with its own?
[QUOTE=redBadger;47606697]Question. If I'm buying an i5 4690k, why do I have to buy a separate cooler if the thing comes with its own?[/QUOTE] Because the cooler on it can't handle any overclocking.
[QUOTE=Levelog;47606804]Because the cooler on it can't handle any overclocking.[/QUOTE] Will I be okay if I just don't OC? [editline]26th April 2015[/editline] OCing isn't too important for me at the moment.
[QUOTE=biodude94566;47595923]Hey all, could I get some feedback on a build I'm looking at? I need to replace a [url=http://i.imgur.com/Pj60o4u.png]dated 6+ year old system[/url], and I'd like to spring for a good gaming PC. I'm also getting into computer science and game development. My budget is $1500 USD. I'm starting fresh with this - no reusing parts from my current system.[/QUOTE] Alright, so after looking around and talking with all sorts of other people, I think I've finalized my build. I decided i can justify spending an extra $100 overall to spring for an i7 and watercooled system, plus found some similar pieces for slightly less. I also had to take and change a few merchants because Micro Center is in-store pickup only, and their closest store is a 12-13 hour drive away. :v: [quote][url=http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZrWp4D]PCPartPicker part list[/url] / [url=http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZrWp4D/by_merchant/]Price breakdown by merchant[/url] [b]CPU:[/b] [url=http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i74790]Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor[/url] ($289.99 @ SuperBiiz) [b]CPU Cooler:[/b] [url=http://pcpartpicker.com/part/thermaltake-cpu-cooler-clw0223]Thermaltake Water 3.0 Pro 99.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler[/url] ($90.53 @ Mwave) [b]Thermal Compound:[/b] [url=http://pcpartpicker.com/part/arctic-silver-thermal-paste-as535g]Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste[/url] ($6.79 @ OutletPC) [b]Motherboard:[/b] [url=http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz97xgaming5]Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard[/url] ($130.98 @ Newegg) [b]Memory:[/b] [url=http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-memory-cmz16gx3m2a1600c10]Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory[/url] ($113.99 @ Amazon) [b]Storage:[/b] [url=http://pcpartpicker.com/part/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mz75e250bam]Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive[/url] ($109.94 @ Amazon) [b]Storage:[/b] [url=http://pcpartpicker.com/part/western-digital-internal-hard-drive-wd30efrx]Western Digital Red 3TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive[/url] ($109.99 @ Best Buy) [b]Video Card:[/b] [url=http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn970wf3oc4gd]Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card[/url] ($295.00 @ Newegg) [b]Case:[/b] [url=http://pcpartpicker.com/part/thermaltake-case-vp500m1w2n]Thermaltake Urban S71 ATX Full Tower Case[/url] ($115.99 @ SuperBiiz) [b]Power Supply:[/b] [url=http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-cx750m]Corsair CX 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply[/url] ($74.99 @ NCIX US) [b]Optical Drive:[/b] [url=http://pcpartpicker.com/part/lite-on-optical-drive-ihas12414]Lite-On iHAS124-14 DVD/CD Writer[/url] ($12.99 @ Newegg) [b]Operating System:[/b] [url=http://pcpartpicker.com/part/microsoft-os-wn700615]Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)[/url] ($87.79 @ OutletPC) [b]Other:[/b] CODE 104-Key Mechanical Keyboard Cherry MX Clear ($155.00) [b]Total:[/b] $1593.97 [i]Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available[/i] [i]Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-04-26 18:41 EDT-0400[/i][/quote]

As for the cooler, a 120mm liquid cooler like that really isn't as good as a cheaper high end air cooler. Also, the i7 you chose is not overclockable. I'd get Artic Cooling MX-4 over the Arctic Silver. There are better performing ones nowadays without the risks the silver has.

As for overclocking, I'm not terribly interested in overclocking. I didn't OC my current CPU (mostly because I didn't know it was super easy to do so) until it started showing signs of its age.

And yeah, the 212 EVO would do if you're not very interested. [editline]26th April 2015[/editline] Would the 2x120mm fan from the Water 3 Extreme do better? It's only $5 more than the 1x120mm Water 3 Pro.

Go with [URL="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371058&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID="]this[/URL]. Also I just try to stay away from AIO liquid coolers. They won't have a 6-8 year lifespan because they mix copper and aluminum which causes corrosion. Grab the phanteks. Or even the 212 evo honestly would be solid for your situation.

Levelog, mind posting some good youtube tutorials to actually assembling the pc. Something that isn't a netflix marathon like newegg has.
[video=youtube;9zQXFkzZ1Ac]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zQXFkzZ1Ac[/video] I can take a look for some more when I get home from work.
I ended up buying the EVGA Supernova G2 750w and Powercolor R9 290 PCS+. Still waiting for my next paycheck next week for the rest of my build - but I am pretty impressed with the build quality of both. The 290 runs pretty quiet and nice and cool too after testing it in a buddy's computer - it doesn't work in the motherboard I'm using in the computer I have right now but I'm not concerned because I'm building a new computer anyway. The PSU is p. sweet too. Nice and quiet. [t]http://i.imgur.com/OqEdXe2.jpg[/t] Comparison between the 290 and the Radeon 7450 that I'm using right now.
I've actually heard amazing things about the 290 PCS+
I'm looking at getting a 970 video card. Is it worth it? I haven't kept track of the 3.5 vram thing but is it a big deal?
[QUOTE=insane taco;47607439]I'm looking at getting a 970 video card. Is it worth it? I haven't kept track of the 3.5 vram thing but is it a big deal?[/QUOTE] What resolution are you playing at? If it's not 4k it's a non-issue.
[QUOTE=Levelog;47607567]What resolution are you playing at? If it's not 4k it's a non-issue.[/QUOTE] That's not technically true, high levels of AA or even future game textures could also spill it over into the stuttering territory.
[QUOTE=TheDestroyerOfall;47608631]That's not technically true, high levels of AA or even future game textures could also spill it over into the stuttering territory.[/QUOTE]it is true. standard 1080p with maxed aa doesn't come close to using it. hell 1440p with bf4 maxed still doesn't get it's stuttering. future textures, well maybe, but depends on what gpus are out then, and if the textures really will be that demanding for vram.
I'm getting 70+ celsius under load on my i5 4670k haswell 3.4ghz, with the H60 V2 liquid cooler. Is this normal? My friend told me the Haswell series of cpu's had high temps regardless of cooler, but this seems a bit excessive? For now I'll just remove the cooler and apply new thermal paste (arctic silver), and not screw it too tight, and hope that does something. I'm thinking, either I'll get the H100i liquid cooler, or the 212 EVO, if applying new paste fails.

Try refitting the cooler. Also, tight is tight, dont apply insane amounts of torque.

I used my hd 5770 for a long time, maybe 3 years already (it still plays for example BF4 on mid-low with 40-60fps), and if anyone buys top end GPU and is not made of money, he will use it for at least 2-3 years.
