What do you guys think of the FX-8350? I feel like getting that.
For gaming? Nah, you can get a 4460 for just a bit more.
What makes it better choice if you don't mind me asking? And yeah, gaming.
What makes it better choice if you don't mind me asking? And yeah, gaming.
Better single thread performance. For now Intel is a choice for gaming, because AMD has no new high end CPU with that good IPS. Thats a shame, but what we can do. New AMD CPU will be Zen, in 2016.
Any Intel processor is better at single threaded tasks than any amd CPU, and it's mostly better at multi threaded ones too. All around it's just a much better processor. If you are already buying a new motherboard, you might as well go Intel. Only really consider amd if it would be cost effective due to you already owning a compatible motherboard. I have a 4460 and there is nothing I've been able to do to make it choke yet. Runs everything as well as I've ever seen it run. You won't be able to overclock it, but you also won't need to.
Will the stock cooler suffice or is it better to go with an aftermarket cooler?
The stock cooler is working perfectly fine for me. Since over clocking isn't an option, it doesn't really matter.
It seems like there is a lot of discussion here about if someone should buy a 970. Anyways I'm here to ask if I should buy a 970. Kinda. I built my PC 3 years ago and got an evga 760 2gb back when that was the good shit. It still works well, and I definitely could get more out of it with overclocking, but It just won't stay cool. I know its an nvidia and it has always been a space heater, but now I can't play GTA v on normal settings at 60fps without it hitting 100C. Ive got a pretty aggressive fan curve on it, and I blew it out around 2 weeks ago so its pretty clean. I believe the max temp is supposed to be 97, and I can keep it around 96 if I unplug my side exhaust fan and set up my big ass oscillating fan to blow shitloads of air into the case. Anyways, I dont know if I should keep cooking my card, try to find a way to cool it down more, or upgrade to a 970. I need advice.
I personally think the 980 is a better choice if you can save up the money.
I personally think the 980 is a better choice if you can save up the money.
Not terribly. The 980 is stupid priced though and probably will be until mid summer
Would replacing the thermal pasta on the 3 year old 670 improve the cooling that much?
I personally think the 980 is a better choice if you can save up the money.
Its not. The 980 is not in the retarded range yet (Titan X). But its still in the highly diminishing returns area. I would wait for the AMD 3## series that are due to release in exactly 1 month tough. Might rattle the cage price wise.
Would replacing the thermal pasta on the 3 year old 670 improve the cooling that much?
Yes. And dismantling the cooler and giving it a proper clean is better than blowing it out as well.
I would wait for the AMD 3## series that are due to release in exactly 1 month tough. Might rattle the cage price wise.
Are they supposed to be better than the 9 series? If so then I may wait.

[editline]18th May 2015[/editline]
Are they supposed to be better than the 9 series? As for performance, we don't know. There have been no trustworthy leaks on performance.
Yeah the 980 is probably going to go through at least a few price drops and that would change things significantly. As it is right now it's not worth the extra cost, but coming down in price to only around like maybe 100 more than the 970 is now, I'd sell my 970 and buy one in a heartbeat. Absolutely love my 970 and it has not let me down a bit, but I mean, with a 980, it's just that much better. Around 20% better. Or if the 980ti comes out at a similar price point to what the 980 is now but with a much higher performance difference, I might just look at that. We'll see.
They'll be more power hungry,
This is what I'm really trying to avoid since it's summer but at the same time get really good performance for Arkham knight.

And we have these: http://wccftech.com/amd-r9-390x-nvidia-gtx-980ti-titanx-benchmarks/ But WCC tech is not very reliable in my and most peoples opinion. So these benchmarks havent really been picked up.

They've had at least 5 different "leaks" that say completely different things.
So I should most likely wait until AMD says something about the 300 series to really get a new gpu?
So I should most likely wait until AMD says something about the 300 series to really get a new gpu?
I'd wait. [editline]18th May 2015[/editline] Well actually, that's what I'm waiting for.
Taking a guess... how much power are the 300 series of GPU's gonna take up?
Taking a guess... how much power are the 300 series of GPU's gonna take up?
I mean they'll likely be right around the R9 2xx series power consumption. It's not going to be some mind blowing PSU bursting power consumption, just Maxwell for nvidia really focuses on low power consumption, something that generally isn't really necessary in a desktop part.
Any thoughts of the Bitfenix Prodigy M mATX case? I need to make my full ATX build smaller and it looks like a nice small case, without dropping to mITX. Also, if I do do this, I'm going to have a slightly scuffed but perfectly functional Define R4 sitting here, what would I have to do to try and get some return on it?
I'm planning on building a computer sometime in November/December, but I have some cash available now, but not nearly enough for a full build. Is there stuff I should get right now and not have to worry about anything coming up in the next 6/7 months? I'm thinking stuff like cases or ram would probably be fine, right? Also, will there be any issue using these in a regular computer? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6AH2153023&cm_re=WD2003FYYS-_-22-136-579-_-Product I can get 2-3 of these for free from a friend and will probably take him up on that offer to save cash and get space to boot, but the reviews have a ton of people using them in proper servers/RAIDs and talking about failures in some of the drives.
Definitely take the drives. I'd just wait though. Do the full build in november/december, your money will go further.
If you're getting them for free, no reason not to take them
Bought the rest of my computer today, and it should be at my house tomorrow thanks to Newegg's god-tier shipping. All I have left is the monitor I want to get, but that's not exactly highest on my priority list.
If I were to upgrade my old as dirt 2600k to a i5 4690k... Would it be worth it?
If I were to upgrade my old as dirt 2600k to a i5 4690k... Would it be worth it?
No. You'd need a new motherboard, and you can just overclock the 2600k to be as good/better than the 4690k.
How far would I be able to oc it? I'm already at 4.5-ish
