There's really no point to upgrading from ivy to skylake if this leak turns out true.
Man... I'm gonna be stuck with my 2600k for eons
Asking for some serious input here - anybody's time and advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm literally dieing because I go all out bang for the buck when I'm building a comp and it's why I have the beast I have right now. I have a good friend who just got graduation money wanting a comp NOW. Here's the list as it stands. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/YJW3nQ Graphics and PSU are solid in stone - already has them from his old comp. For the mobo I was going to get a Asrock Fatal1ty Z97X - but it isn't on Amazon Prime and he wants to get everything primed the same day. Can't talk him out of it. The next thing is the case. Please find a good case - mid/full under $90. I just cant stand the case - he spent 10 minutes looking and won't go past that. I reccd the Haf XB EVO, Corsair Air Carbides, and some Phanteks Enthoos. He doesn't want anything eye catching. Something that will hold the card (295mm) , good airflow, looks like a nice black case. I'm in a huge rush doing this because of how quickly he wants it. It's seriously killing me and I'm getting super irritated just half assing an expensive build. He's spending all of his grad money on it. I don't want him to be regretting it later on. I planned on overclocking the CPU hard - and I doubt the 212 EVO will suffice as a cooler for it. If case gets better, cooler gets better. Ram is also there b/c super low profile for complete future proof. ANYTHING will help. The one thing we're completely set on is the 4790 proc. I will update this later as I'm not incredibly tired so I don't sound as dumb. Thank you all. Budget is what the total price is w/o the card and supply + maybe ~$30
You just linked the list from the URL, which won't show your list. You need to post the permalink in the top left corner, then I can help you out. [editline]25th May 2015[/editline] Also what is his budget?
reading the thread, some say at least a 10% improvement..hmm. yeah, idk i guess when the time comes and my 3570k is aged ill see, for now im perfectly fine.
reading the thread, some say at least a 10% improvement..hmm. yeah, idk i guess when the time comes and my 3570k is aged ill see, for now im perfectly fine.
Yeah, the increase is nice clock for clock, but it seems to be lower clocked. It'll probably all come down to how well they overclock.
Will I get any temperature problems with a 290x or a 970 in my Corsair Air 240? My ASUS 670 already causes quite a bit of heat.

https://www.backblaze.com/blog/3tb-hard-drive-failure/ https://www.backblaze.com/blog/best-hard-drive/
Oh god is it that time of the month someone pulls out the backblaze article? Never, ever quote that fucking article again. There are so many things wrong with it. Not to mention THAT ISN'T EVEN THE SAME DRIVE that he linked.
Didn't know it was a thing. I saw that the model number is not the same, but I saw two of their 3TB models having similar failure rates. Can you enlighten me as to why the articles are incorrect? EDIT: Never mind, answered my own question, an isolated external incident causing abnormal failure rates is my best assumption.

EDIT: Never mind, answered my own question, an isolated external incident causing abnormal failure rates is my best assumption.
Backblaze takes external drives out of enclosures and puts them in custom cheap racks and pushes them to enterprise needs. The Seagates in that test were mainly in the first gen racks, which are worse than the newer ones that contain primarily other drives. Also they got most of their Seagate drives during a special from costco. Costco banned them from buying them, so they had customers buy them and mail them in in god knows what condition. Their results are truthful, but there are many factors that make them have a huge margin of error. [editline]25th May 2015[/editline] Sorry if I seemed rude, by the way. People referencing those results often brings the worst out in me.
My question still remains. I appreciate the informative read though :v:
My question still remains. I appreciate the informative read though :v:
Yeah, should do you well. I have the 2tb version, and even loaded up it still tests at ~200MB/s both read and write.
It seems to have good reviews. I don't know that much about hard drives myself though. In fact I am also in the market for more storage, and being that there will be many sales today, I feel like it's the perfect time to buy. Could someone explain to me whether or not it would be a good idea to buy a NAS hard drive for use in a desktop? I get conflicting answers from many different reviews but the ones who are negative seem to just not know what they're doing. Am I right in my understanding that as long as it's not a boot drive and it is formatted correctly, it'll work just fine? I ask because they seem to be a bit cheaper, but also from the reviews seem very reliable. Or would it be better to just get something marketed as a desktop hdd like the one the guy above asked about? 2 or 3TB is about what I'm looking for as well. If 4 isn't much more I could do that.
Yeah, should do you well. I have the 2tb version, and even loaded up it still tests at ~200MB/s both read and write.
Cool. Yeah a 480 SSD clearly isn't enough for me and I'm being too conservative with games and software.

Some games that require lots of texture loading like Skyrim might suffer though.
So I bought the hard drive and installed it. When I plugged my computer back in and powered it on, it turned on for a second, shut off, then a few seconds later turned back on for good. Should I be concerned if this happens?

I get so nervous everytime I hit the power button, no idea why lol
I love aria.co.uk The mobo was definitely expensive regardless but I'm getting £25 cashback so fuck it.

Be careful on what cooler you get. My 212 evo the way its set up will block the closest most RAM slot, so I recommend putting the fan on the opposite side.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a video card, and does the rest of the setup seem solid? thanks
Guys I need a new PSU because my current 620 Watt Bronze one isn't enough for sli (I got a 2nd 760 for free) Trying to not spend too much on the PSU so yeah some recommendations would be great.
Don't get the 212 Evo with that motherboard. like I said in the above post, the fan will get in the way of your far left ram slot. You could try putting it on the left side of the cooler tower though away from the ram slots but I have not tried that. Also instead of 4 4G ram I'd get 2 8GB since it supports up to 32 gigs. The price should be the same I think. For a video card i would get a 970 if you're trying to stay under, 980 if you're willing to go over. 970 will also get you Witcher 3 and Batman free if you buy from the promotion. Let me know if you need help with that mobo. I got the same one right now and I'm really liking it. [editline]26th May 2015[/editline] Also if you want to save money get the i5 4690k. If you're mainly gaming you should be ok [editline]26th May 2015[/editline]
Guys I need a new PSU because my current 620 Watt Bronze one isn't enough for sli (I got a 2nd 760 for free) Trying to not spend too much on the PSU so yeah some recommendations would be great.
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220g20850xr This, except a different watt level if you prefer. Everything about this PSU feels high quality from the box you get and the cables to the finish on the actual PSU.

I don't think I'll be upgrading that memory in the future, but do you have any cpu coolers you would like to recommend that solves this problem? I'm not too familiar with the sizing. Also I think I may go with the 980.

The 212 honestly probably will work, you'll just have to put the fan opposite of the RAM portion. However then it might conflict with anything going in the pci express slot. Looking at my current situation thought I think there'd be plenty of room to move the fan over. [editline]26th May 2015[/editline] If you're willing to spend ten more bucks you can get the 212 but replace the stock fan with any slimmer 120mm fan like this one. A bit more labor but then your ram will be safe.

Not sure what the difference is between that and just a regular 750 but yeah, should be perfect.
So this one should be good then yeah? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K85X2A2/?tag=xov-20
No, the G1 series is on a vastly inferior platform. Get one of the G2 or GS series.
Quick question. http://www.morecomputers.com/product.aspx?pn=AX3U2400W8G11-DGV&man=Adata I was going to get this, but apparently my yet-to-be-delivered i5 4690k doesn't meet the voltage. I've been looking around online and the general consensus seems to be that it'll be fine, but I'd rather get word from someone in the know here. And has there been any official confirmations saying that it'll be safe?
