Quick question.
http://www.morecomputers.com/product.aspx?pn=AX3U2400W8G11-DGV&man=Adata
I was going to get this, but apparently my yet-to-be-delivered i5 4690k doesn't meet the voltage. I've been looking around online and the general consensus seems to be that it'll be fine, but I'd rather get word from someone in the know here. And has there been any official confirmations saying that it'll be safe?
I'd just get standard 1600mhz CL9 RAM. It'll be cheaper, in voltage, and 2400mhz really won't show you any performance increases outside of RAM sensitive benchmarks.

I wouldn't even want to get this ram if it wasn't such a good price, cheapest I found 16gb of ram, not really worried if the 2400mhz would show any real performance increase, I'm just thinking if I can get better ram for cheaper, why not? I'm not sure if it's safe to do though.
Edit: What I'm trying to say is should I pay more money to get 1866mhz RAM that runs at 1.5 voltage, or should I pay less for the 2400mhz that runs at 1.65 voltage?

2400mhz 1.65 RAM should auto downclock to 1600 1.5v
2400mhz 1.65 RAM should auto downclock to 1600 1.5v
Aww sweet thanks, I wasn't aware that RAM could downclock.
Going to post my question here since it might get more exposure then in the other megathread I posted it in
What sort of PSU should I use to power this?
[img_thumb]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/44896033/spec3.png[/img_thumb]
I currently use a Corsair TX750M from around 4 years ago however I notice if I'm playing GTA (4K resi) and also watching twitch my graphics drivers seem to crash a lot
Thinking of getting a 850W full modular
(Ill be snipping the image later today to avoid turning the thread into a spec posting thread)

A bad PSU shouldn't be causing your graphics drivers to crash.

And speccy's are always welcome here, kinda necessary for upgrades.

I've had funny driver crashes for ages, Ive gone through numerous hardware iterations (I cycle my stuff every 2 years - The only part of my PC which I have never replace has been my PSU - 1 year I some stuff and the next year ill do whatever i didnt do)
Drivers crashing isnt really a common thing only seems to happen with a twitch & GTA combo. The PSU is comming on 5 years soon anyway so I guess its about time to start thinking about replacing it, espeically since i will typically be under load for 7 - 12 hours a day (upto 80% of that could be running games)

My current roommate is getting $700 or so in the next week, and he wants help putting together a $700 max budget build. He just needs the actual computer hardware; no monitor, OS, or other peripherals are required. Shipping is excluded from his budget as well, so the $700 is the max for the actual cost of the components. Should I just use the $750 build in the OP and trim out the SSD, or can someone put together a part list?
So apparently my gtx 980 is having this "coil whining" issue. Any way to resolve this?
It tends to only happen during 60+fps
I would just enable vsync

you can add more ram and another hard drive later its good for now, you want to go amd with little money because simply put with amd they focus more more on power to a few task while intel is able to give power to processes divided which also needs ram sooo you want AMD and also its less risk to have all AMD "roads" also the chasis has 2 fans in the front aswell... but gives you the option on the side and back and maybe front too if you decide to add a radaiator for liquid cooling

It's just weird because it didn't do this out of the box. It only started a couple of days ago after I had moved some cables around.

Resecure all the power cables.
Resecured the power cables and locked the framerate at 60 which helped.
Still getting some odd noise, and at random intervals getting a very sudden high pitched squeak. Not sure where the squeak is coming from though.
Could it be because my cables are shoved too tight in my cases side compartment? Really don't want to RMA this card, especially since I'd have to dig through all my crap to find all the stuff out of the box.
i'm new to computer building, does this look okay?

shadowplay is an important factor, and i don't mind running things on medium as long as it means i can play video games at full speed while i'm streaming. also, my monitor's native resolution is 1680x1050
You could very well replace the i7 for an i5 4690k, and with the $100 you save, invest in an SSD on which to install windows, that'll make a world of difference to every day performance, a benefit you wouldn't really see from putting that money into the i7.
At that resolution, you'd be golden with a 970. In fact you'll be able to play most everything with DSR enabled (increased resolution downscaled and smoothed in order to achieve a brute force supersample antialiasing). I play at 1080p and can DSR most stuff.
Color me very confused. The chirping was in fact coming from my PSU. Even when I shut it down, the chirping persisted ever so quietly.
I then unplugged my laptop and viola. It stopped. Apparently it only clicks when my laptop is on and charging. Very strange. Anyone have an explanation as to why this is?

I'm way to damn nervous with all this computer building shit lol
You're possibly drawing too much power from the outlet. What else do you have plugged into the outlets in your room?
You're possibly drawing too much power from the outlet. What else do you have plugged into the outlets in your room?
Besides the actual computer, an external drive, speakers, monitor, laptop, and d.s.
It is a bit much in hindsight.
What's the wattage on your PSU?
750
Weird. How long have you had the PSU?
few weeks.
It only occurs when my laptop is on and plugged in. So it may be I'm using too much power in my strip. I took out my d.s and laptop and moved them to a spare outlet for now. I'm probably just psyching myself out.

It all depends on the how much that circuit can handle. I'm running my desktop, 3 monitors, 2 servers, a managed switch, and an AP off one circuit.

You could probably RMA it if anything, but that's not very fun :s

Yeah, that's the norm. I'm jealous of my grandfather though, he's got a 20 running to a single outlet for his desktop and another 20 for the rest of the room.
My house was built in the 90s. Not sure if that'll have anything to do with it but my Outlets are quite old.

Unless you mean the 1890's, that's really not very old as far as construction goes.
