Okay so I can't completely upgrade my PC so I'm doing it progressively. I want the i7 4970k, motherboard, new psu and a 970. Should I buy the CPU/motherboard first and stick with my 670 until I get my new card, or vice versa? In addition, which motherboard and modular psu to get?
Depends on what processor you have currently. If you have a third or fourth gen i5 or something similar already, you would notice much, much more improvement by getting the video card. So much so that you might just stick with your current CPU. If, on the other hand, you currently have a CPU that just isn't cutting it anymore, it's obvious what you should do.
I need to replace my stock cooler. Im interested in getting this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099 but it looks huge and idk if it will fit in my case nicely. What other should i get? I have this case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139018&cm_re=200r-_-11-139-018-_-Product and this CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116898&cm_re=4670-_-19-116-898-_-Product EDIT: I just saw a review on my case that said that EVO fit nicely into my case so maybe i will.

You can just get a nice cheap Coolermaster TX3 and it'll be nice and chilly.
logical increments is bad
Any particular reason?
Any particular reason?
It's not bad, it's just not great. When you're relying on algorithms it's going to be inferior to someone actually picking out the parts and knows what they're doing, and knows the little caveats and issues with specific products.

My plan was to upgrade my processor for video editing, etc as well as gaming but obviously I'd rather spend money and see the improvement.
Even though it's locked, your i5 will be sufficient for games no problem. Buying the video card would show marked improvement in game performance. However, if video editing is important to you, that i7 will make a difference as well, just not in any games. No game will benefit from it. So I guess it's up to which one is most important for you at the moment

Maybe no game would benefit from the change if he had a 2500k, but many MMO's and RTS's would benefit from a better processor.

Coincidentally, those two genres happen to be two of the only types of games I do not play at all, so I'm ignorant on those. I think you could safely say though that the games that will benefit from a CPU upgrade are few and far between. Depends highly on what you play. I do play one CPU intensive game, kerbal space program, and I do very well in that game with an i5 4460.
Hey guys, A friend of mine wants to build a PC for $800-1000 (he wants to save a bit of money for peripherals), what's a good build for that amount of money nowadays? Thanks.
So, I built my PC. I got a Newegg combo for the majority of the parts. The combo came with a 8GB stick of Ripjaws 1600 DDR3, but the mobo came with a free gift of an 8GB stick of HyperX Fury 1866 DDR3. So I have the HyperX in there (because after calculations, it was quicker), and a stick of Ripjaws just sitting in the packaging. I need to find a way to trade that Ripjaws stick for another stick of HyperX that matches what I have in my PC.

I already have a rad rig I built, but I wanna get a laptop for college for about 600-700 bux thats not too huge. Any good ideas? preferably can run video games and not too big or heavy
Hey guys I have a desktop im looking to cheaply upgrade this summer. Currently it has a phenom 955 and an HD 4850, with 4 gigs of ddr2 ram. Im looking to add 4 more gigs of ram and just throw another mid range gpu in. I vaguely remember that dual channel needs to be installed in multiples of two (ex 2 gigs, 4 gigs, 6 gigs, 8 gigs, ect) and that something else needs to be matched for the ram to work to its full potential. What is that other thing im forgetting (I havent been keeping up on computer hardware for quite a while)? Thanks
What's your mobo? You might want to consider getting a new one and upgrading to DDR3 ram
uhhhh its a foxconn a7gm-s 2.0. I'm not looking to upgrade more than a few sticks of ram and a graphics card, as I realistically only need it to last through next year till i graduate school and then maybe a year after that.
whats the likelyhood that a normal power outage during a storm will severly damage my computer
whats the likelyhood that a normal power outage during a storm will severly damage my computer
Power outage won't damage anything but potentially data. An associated surge though...
I have a quick question is do I need upgrade my cpu which is a I5-2320 @ 3.00GHz or can I just upgrade my 570 to a 970.
I was recommended to use an Asus VII Hero for my build, and in turn recommended it to a friend who was also making his own computer, and he said it was DOA. I was looking through some reviews, and it seems to either DOA or stop working after a short period of time rather often. Any better choices for a motherboard?

I have never built a PC before. My knowledge of assembling a PC stops at connecting a GPU to a motherboard. Regardless, I think it's about time I built a PC. Here's what I have at the moment (From a Pre-built): Motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. CM6870 (Exclusive to this pre-built computer, I believe) Storage: TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 ("1TB" (more like 764GB, but whatever)) Storage: ??? No idea, it just holds Windows and is 150GB. Memory: 32GB DDR3 RAM; 8,192MB for each stick running at 1,600MHz PSU: TX750 GPU: GTX 980 CPU: Intel i7 3770 Operating System: Windows 8 (64-bit) (Unfortunately I don't have the installation nor the serial key) Here's what I want to build: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($325.99 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($26.98 @ OutletPC) Thermal Compound: Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste ($6.98 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: MSI Z97-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($137.95 @ Amazon) Storage: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($56.02 @ Amazon) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($373.99 @ Best Buy) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($49.99 @ Amazon) Case: NZXT Source 530 ATX Full Tower Case ($89.99 @ Amazon) Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($18.89 @ OutletPC) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit) ($87.98 @ OutletPC) Total: $1174.76 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-06-09 02:08 EDT-0400 I will also be transferring my TX750, GTX 980, and 32GB DDR3 RAM from the old build to the new one. Also, I'm not sure if I should just wait on Windows 10 to release. I feel like this might be a bit overkill, though I really don't know what I'm doing. All I know is that everything should be compatible. I also might attempt water cooling in the distant future, would this case work for that?
Is there much point is choosing an i5 4960 over an i5 4460? Also how important is overclocking to a rig?
Hey guys im doing a rebuild of current year old computer. It was mainly within a budget it has a i5 4670k, 780ti, 16ddr3 and A Z87 board. Im not here to ask for advice except, Do you guys think its alright to make a thread onces its finnished in 2 months with pictures and process of it like they do in reddit?. Im aiming for a general more silent/aesthetics build with high end hardware like the new yet to come Z170 boards and 980ti custom card with skylake cpu on liquid coolings. I heard you guys like sleek builds anyway! my budget is going to be 2500euro, I already do have the ram and the hdd's/ssd. Mind you this is a absurd build for gains im going to get. Its well my current pc its like a jetengine OC'd. I want get rid of that. and those damn non sleeved cables it gets to me!. I cant even get my case on atm beceuse my 780ti is a classified and its so big it puts a dent in the case from the cables pushing it hard. These are already at a sleeved cables extender. drew this in paint Im going to go with this airflow. Dont know on how much airflow im going to get from front. Maybe wont need bottom intake.
Is this even worth it? There has to be a catch http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824006317&cm_re=sony_3d_display-_-24-006-317-_-Product
I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain the air should be going over the radiator is its way out of the PC. Otherwise you're pumping warm radiator air into your case.
I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain the air should be going over the radiator is its way out of the PC. Otherwise you're pumping warm radiator air into your case.
The way radiators and such work it's such a small amount of heat that it doesn't make a difference. It's generally much better (depending on airflow patterns of the case) to move fresh air from outside the case through the radiator.

It has no brackets infront for good mounting off those and keeping that airflow going to rear of my case. On plus side this is cheaper aswel. [t]http://www.techpowerup.com/img/15-04-21/56c.jpg[/t] Specs are going to be : EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 Power Supply + G2 Red Power Supply Cable Set (Individually Sleeved) MSI GTX 980 Ti GAMING 6G Z170 Board Skylake CPU Corsair Hydro Series H105 Samsung 850 EVO 500gb / Corsair 128gb sdd for windows / 2TB HDD seagate. Corsair Vengeance LPX - 16 GB : 4 x 4 GB - DDR4 - 2666 MHz Ordered most of these parts already just going to need to wait on skylake. Hopefully soon.
