I have never built a PC before. My knowledge of assembling a PC stops at connecting a GPU to a motherboard. Regardless, I think it's about time I built a PC. I would just buy the storage your need, and stick with the CPU and motherboard you have right now.
Hey guys im doing a rebuild of current year old computer. It was mainly within a budget it has a i5 4670k, 780ti, 16ddr3 and A Z87 board. Im not here to ask for advice except, Do you guys think its alright to make a thread onces its finnished in 2 months with pictures and process of it like they do in reddit?. Im aiming for a general more silent/aesthetics build with high end hardware like the new yet to come Z170 boards and 980ti custom card with skylake cpu on liquid coolings. I heard you guys like sleek builds anyway! my budget is going to be 2500euro, I already do have the ram and the hdd's/ssd. Mind you this is a absurd build for gains im going to get. Its well my current pc its like a jetengine OC'd. I want get rid of that. and those damn non sleeved cables it gets to me!. I cant even get my case on atm beceuse my 780ti is a classified and its so big it puts a dent in the case from the cables pushing it hard. These are already at a sleeved cables extender. drew this in paint Im going to go with this airflow. Dont know on how much airflow im going to get from front. Maybe wont need bottom intake.
This is a highly idealized way to think about airflow, your computer is not an airplane, the air is gonna be super turbulent and the over/under-pressure created by the fans isn't going to be nearly high enough for any kind of "airflow" where you try to direct the air from front to back or back to front to make sense. Its more beneficial to just point all the fans inwards and create an over-pressure in the case, and it'll also be more silent that way as the sound moves with the air. Do w/e tho, it all makes a minimal difference regardless of how you install it. Just buy high quality fans, do decent cable-management, that's much more important.
Does anyone know of a good non-conductive thermal paste for laptops? I'm upgrading a dell D610 laptop from a 1.6 GHz processor to a 2.2 GHz Pentium M, and the processor itself is exposed with no metal protector like on desktop processors.

Arctic MX4 isn't fantastic on direct-die application. Noctua NT-H1 is really good though.
Probably only supports 60hz via hdmi and achieves 240hz with interpolation. This is pretty common in tvs.
Fuck it then. I'm not cheaping out if i'm getting a better monitor.
Why a 120gb SSD and a 1tb? I guess realistically, I won't be using a full 1TB for games anyway, so I should probably just install Windows on the 1TB SSD.
I have a quick question is do I need upgrade my cpu which is a I5-2320 @ 3.00GHz or can I just upgrade my 570 to a 970.
Anybody?
Anybody?
The 970 should be a higher priority by far.
I just upgraded to a i5 4690k, what temps should I be getting with the stock cooler?
I just upgraded to a i5 4690k, what temps should I be getting with the stock cooler?
Buy a hyper 212 evo its like 30 bucks and will save your cpu. Okay so I'm about to buy a new monitor for my computer, and I'm a little stuck. This is what I had my eye on. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-mx239h Pretty expensive, but then this pops up https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/viewsonic-monitor-va2349s Now, I'm not sure what I should be looking for, as far as monitors go, from what I can see, specifications wise both are really similar. Would it be an unwise purchase to go for the Asus one? Edit: Actually I've found something else. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00UHAYTXW What I went with.
Going to go for the i7 4790k, new mobo and psu this weekend. I'll stick with my 670 for now for another month until I get a 970, most likely sell my old card on ebay. Figured it will give me time to focus on my video editing until I save up. Will this psu be enough? http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00ALYOTTI/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2BXUXKXQLC2F8&coliid=I32YM59G5BZB82&psc=1
I got given a GTX 680 for free and have managed to come into a bit of extra money, so I was wondering if the 680 is good enough to base a build around for the moment, by getting a good CPU/mobo and the like, while waiting for the current GPU prices to drop later in the year.
The 970 should be a higher priority by far.
Alright thanks!

My friend wants to get his son his first desktop. However he's not sure if he wants to build or buy. His budget is ~$700. I've made him a list for a custom build, however I was wondering if there were any options for a prebuilt. It doesn't seem like he does too heavy gaming (Minecraft, terraria, and "some fantasy games") [editline]10th June 2015[/editline] He decided to go for the prebuilt route this time since his kids only 13 years old. Any recommendations?
I was planning on buying one when I needed to overclock.
Well just know that stock coolers are legit terrible. Even without overclocking i would never use a stock cooler. Learned my lesson the hard way.
Well just know that stock coolers are legit terrible. Even without overclocking i would never use a stock cooler. Learned my lesson the hard way.
The modern Intel stock coolers really aren't though. They're perfectly adequate for stock clocks.
Well just know that stock coolers are legit terrible. Even without overclocking i would never use a stock cooler. http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1406-page3.html It's not really any good, but it works.
when i make the switch to SSD, how should i move the OS and programs over to it, and will my programs still work correctly when they're moved to seperate drives?
sometimes it comes with cloning software, but mine failed midway, and I had to reinstall 7 on the SSD separately. Some things (programs, games) may get broken if you try and move them to the ssd. Because they are picky as hell. if it doesn't have cloning software, then copy paste everything over won't work, you'll have to start from scratch on the ssd
Just use clonezilla, not some shit cloning software they give you.
Just use clonezilla, not some shit cloning software they give you.
even that failed me, trust me i tried everything lol. it kept getting midway, and came up with some bs error. i eventually gave up and threw in the towel. windows 10 is next month, ill be wiping everything anyways.

Having trouble picking a motherboard for my new PC. i need to have wifi capability in my pc because i can't use ethernet. is a "ASUS Z97I-PLUS/2" a good choice? i'm putting in an i5-4690K and a gtx970 if that makes any difference. [editline]13th June 2015[/editline] should i just get a Z97X-gaming board and buy a PCI network adapter?
