Thinking about picking up an i5 4590 for $140, should I go for it or wait and get a 4690k?
Thinking about picking up an i5 4590 for $140, should I go for it or wait and get a 4690k?
Are you going to overclock?
Are you going to overclock?
Maybe, but that won't be until I absolutely need to.
So before I end up killing a second board, can someone show me how these pins are supposed to connect? 2 keys are mismatched, and neither the psu or the board manual helps explain this. (although MSI shows pin labels) The clip on the board is set on the top left from the image. I really don't want to take more chances than I have to at this. Everything should be labeled [editline]22nd June 2015[/editline]
The last time I transported my PC, I just put it back in the box the case came in (using the protective packaging) and laid the box flat in the boot of my car. As long as everything's secured inside the PC and you have all the packaging for the case, this should work. Same goes for monitors too.
Yeah i got all the styrofoam things and some spare bubble wrap laying around. I probably will pack it separately from all the other shit I got to bring.
Got a $2200 budget for a sick gaming pc, anyone have any awesome ideas?

an HD 7790 is significantly better than a GTX 650 Ti right?

Id get a 850 watt psu more than eneugh even a 750 will do but you'll beable to SLI the 980ti's if you dont OC them. And rather 2x 500gb sdd's one to put your OS on. Ive been following the 980ti for awhile now and for what you can get now this is really up to you but get EVGA if you want great service and warrenty their air cooler is not that great and might be bit noisy if you plan to OC it. Then currently theres the MSI 980ti gaming 6G which is alot quieter and had a higher base clock which ive personally ordered dispite being evga fan since I heard great things about the same 980 model of it. Or you could get the gigabyte 980ti 6GD which has a custom PCB with 3 fans leaving for great OC possibilities while running cool but tad more noisy than the MSI one. Other than those 980ti's there arent any others released that I could tell about. Also that case is pretty damn huge! Midtowers are pretty cool if you keep ur pc on ur desk or dont have alot of room for it. I recently got a fractal design S case, which is a watercooling case but its midtower and cheaper and I can tell you it was a breeze to work on, Also the harddrives being behind the case. Which gives you a nice open look. And opens the front for better aircooling, espeicly with that NZXT kraken cooler which needs to be mounted on top of the case. [t]http://i.imgur.com/6lpVm3h.jpg[/t] This is my build with that case did that today. Its all very WIP and I didnt really spend much time making it properly. As I basicly build it over from my current pc so these are no new parts besides some leds and new fans/psu cables. Im waiting on skylake/ddr4 with corsair H105 and 980ti parts then i'll do it propely and post here in about 2 months. Im pretty satisfied with the rebuild of current pc thought.
You can never spend too much on a case.
only problem I have with my case is that the side fan collects dust so I have to wipe the front panel down. My room for some reason is dusty as hell. corsair 500r
I've decided I won't be overclocking my build. And someone has brought to my attention in the case of that, that instead of getting an i5-4590 I should look into the Xeon range. I was wondering if anyone had experience with the range and could recommend me a CPU. [editline]24th June 2015[/editline] Also, I heard that whether or not I overclock I should get a Z97 board due to its better RAM and SATA capabilities, is this true?
Why do you need a Xeon though [editline]24th June 2015[/editline]
I've decided I won't be overclocking my build. The i5 is fine
If he was thinking about overclocking it's probably mostly for gaming I'd think. Don't get a Xeon for gaming.
I mean there's literally nothing wrong with a Xeon E3 for gaming. It's a non overclockable i7 with no iGPU.
I mean there's literally nothing wrong with a Xeon E3 for gaming. It's a non overclockable i7 with no iGPU.
I guess you're right, but I don't know I guess I'm used to Xeons not being directed towards games. It's the principle man. :v:
That makes me wonder, does a game that supports multithreading also hypothetically support dual cpus?
Going to build a computer for $1000 http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/y7RGMp This is all priced in CAD, should it be enough for a decent build or is there anything Im missing?

R9 280X or 380 4GB? 280X is cheaper and performs better, but I'm not sure how future-proof it is with DirectX12 vs. the 380. My PSU is a Corsair CX600M, but it should be able to handle it, right?
Would it be smarter to go for a R9 290 OC or a GTX 970? Build
If you can spend the extra cash, 970, but you won't be disappointed if your budget is tight and go with the 290

Build
You get what you pay for, R9 290 is going to be ~50 dollars cheaper. And the performance difference is pretty much representative of that.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/QogZtSJ.jpg[/t] Some parts arrived for my red/black build. I just noticed the excessive use of corsair parts. I dont think I would recommend this H105 for how expensive it is and there are far better solutions. The ram could have been G.Skill. The fans could have better variant of high performance fans of noctue fans. PSU is bit overkill 750 would been eneugh. Im critizing myself here beceuse I dont wanne bring people on wrong idea this is theme build. Now to wait on skylake.. And my MSI 980ti.
I advise you to swap the fans that come with the H105. I have the H100i (slightly smaller, older variant of the 105) and the fans are horrifyingly loud. I can't name any better fans that are black, but make sure you get ones with a high static pressure, since that matters more than airflow with radiators. Side note: If you put those fans on max speed and put your hand over the radiator, it's like sticking your hand over a vacuum cleaner hose.

So the 290 will be a better choice with this moniter? Have a 1600x900 shitty dell right now.
