970 will probably be better if you're aiming for 1440
Holy crap those are cheaper than I thought. It'll push it well. Not 144fps well, but it's more powerful than my 680 and it does pretty solidly at 1440p [editline]24th June 2015[/editline] I'd rather a 290x over a 970 for 1440p personally.
Worth upgrading from a 770 to a 970 or better off waiting for new cards to come out?
Back. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/R8YsFT Iffy on the GPU, it's one of the last parts that I need to buy.
Worth upgrading from a 770 to a 970 or better off waiting for new cards to come out?
It's like the jump from the 770 to the 780ti or so. If you are content with paying 350$ or so for around 35-40% extra performance, less power draw, and better support, then yes. I made the switch, and i ended up being extremely happy with my choice, it maxes out everything today at 1080p, really. This picture (and article) is what made up my mind. I figured i could get more out of the 970 than the 770 i already had. http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_970_gaming_review,1.html The better choice obiviously would be to get a 980, but if you can only afford the 970, i can personally say i was content with that choice. If you get into the 980 range, anyways, you may as well save up for a 980 ti [editline]25th June 2015[/editline]
Back. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/R8YsFT Iffy on the GPU, it's one of the last parts that I need to buy.
I wouldn't get a r7 in any case. i'd prefer going at least to a 280x or 290x, if not a 970. That CPU could handle a lot more, and your card will last longer if you save up a bit.
Nothing I do warrants a 970, literally all I do is use gimp/play eu4/play occasional tf2 or civ/videos
Nothing I do warrants a 970, literally all I do is use gimp/play eu4/play occasional tf2 or civ/videos
I'd still recommend a better GPU. Most lower tier ones, especially the 200x series below the 270x are weak on driver support. try a 270x or 280x at the least, but that's just my opine.

I have a Radeon 7000 I'll give it to u for only $40 deal y/n???
So I wanna buy a GTX 970, but I've got a few things I'd like to get cleared up. First, I have no idea what the difference between the different manufacturers and what all the other specifications mean, so could someone tell me which 970 out of the ones listed HERE should I buy? Preferably not the most expensive one. And secondly, what other things should I be concerned about when getting it? My motherboard is only like 2 years old so I'm pretty certain I'm good with slots and all that (it's an ASRock Z75 Pro3), but do I need to figure anything out if I'm good with stuff like cooling or if my PSU is good enough?

looking to build a new computer, but I'm kinda stuck on a graphics card. I've already got 12gb of ram, a terabyte hdd, an ATX case and 500w power supply for a previous build that I hopefully plan to use, but I can replace any of those if required. what I"m looking at atm is: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor ($309.00 @ PC Force) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97-GAMING 3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($171.35 @ PB Technologies) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($205.00 @ 1stWave Technologies) Total: $685.35 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-06-26 10:15 NZST+1200 as for the graphics card, I'm not really sure what to look for. I don't mind either brand, I"m just looking for whatever will give me the best bang for my buck while still being cheap bc I don't really play videogames very much anymore. I was thinking maybe a r9 290/960/970? anyones suggestions are appreciated, but just keep in mind I'm in new zealand so a lot of parts seem to be unavailable here. edit: prices above are in NZD, preferred maximum to spend is 1500 nzd/1000 usd, but wish to spend as little as possible.
What's the PSU/model? pcpartpicker doesn't display the cheapest prices so looking at http://pricespy.co.nz might be better
I"m unsure of exact model but it's 500w, probably corsair. I can't seem to find any model number on the psu though.
[t]http://puu.sh/iCKK8/620d99ddfd.JPG[/t] that's the only sort of marking I can find on the psu, unless there's something on the side on the opposite end.
sweet as, I have no problem chucking it out for a better psu. thanks for the recommendation!
Cousins looking to build a modest tower. It is not for gaming, but needs some decent single thread performance for a specific application that does some minor number crunching. He wants the cost under 600 dollars (which is way more than needed for this.) The total price should be low. No SSDs, or dedicated GPU. I think he should just throw 8GB of RAM in it, but could probably live with 4. He needs DVD burning, 1TB + storage, and a smallish form factor. Also prefers to have a smalish form factor. He's also looking for a wireless keyboard and mouse combo that has decent range so he can sit on his couch and stream to his TV from it. I'm thinking chuck a low end haswell refresh i3 in it, get a cheap, but reliable, ATX/microATX board to go with it, 8GB of good ram, a 1TB caviar blue, a small capstone power supply (550W is currently on sale for 40 dollars), and call it a day. Any killer deals I should be aware of? So far I'm at ~370 without the keyboard and mouse, and that's with an overkill motherboard I just threw on to get a rough estimate.
I'm saving up money for a ~$2000 gaming rig (including monitors and keyboard/mouse and software and peripherals) so I'm configuring what kind of build that I want. He could save 193,97€ if he took out the soundcard, malware and OS. Why OS? Because if you have the chance to download an ISO of the Preview of W10 now and eventually it'll be updated to the full version for free. Might as well take advantage of that. Also, if you want Windows 7 because "lel so much better", you're just kidding yourself. Even if the UI wasn't the most pleasing in Win 8.1, the performance is much better and the resource management is a lot better than 7's.
How would I download the ISO of the W10 on an entirely new computer?
How would I download the ISO of the W10 on an entirely new computer?
You'd get the ISO now and store it in a flashdrive/external Hdd/burn the ISO to a DVD. Do I really have to tell you this..? Not to be an ass or anything but... There are storing solutions everywhere.
