The Gigabyte gaming 5 has pretty much the same feature set But better vrms. I'd go with that.
How about this motherboard: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z97a

Alright I think I'll go with that then. Thanks a bunch for your help
Hey guys, I want to build a PC soon, but I'm very unsure about the way to go about it. My requirements are an i5, 8gb of ram, an ssd, And a high end video card. Total budget being around $1000. I also want to buy it all from the same seller, just to make it easier on me. I'd prefer it all from newegg for the combo deals, or from amazon because I have amazon prime.
So here's the issues I'm having. I could get a good combo deal with an i5, 8gb of ram, 1tb HDD, 240gb ssd, and a gtx 970 for under $1000. But I can also get a good combo deal on there for the same system, minus the video card, for under $600, and buy the card later. This might be a better strategy because I don't know if amd is going to release something soon that might make me regret getting the 970. I also would feel much more comfortable spending only 5 something as opposed to dropping $1k in one day.
What do you think I should do? Feel free to recommend a build of your own that conforms to want I want. Maybe you can find a better deal than me. I'm not looking for over clocking, so one of the lower end i5s is fine. I would just use pcpartpicker but maybe it's because I'm on the mobile version but I don't see a way of limiting it to only one seller like amazon or newegg.
I need a CPU Cooler. I have been using the stock one since i built the machine in 2013 but now i want a proper one.

Since you're not going to be overclocking, I'd pick up a Cooler Master TX4. It'll cool all you need and should be pretty quiet.

Budget was £300 for the CPU/Mobo/RAM/GPU. I'll end up getting another 8GB RAM soon.
Not bad right?
If only I could afford an i5 or i7, next time though!
I am looking to upgrade my current pc. Im aiming to get a GTX 980,and im wondering if there anything else I should/need to upgrade?
Im also may get a new processor so Im open to suggestions on that to

Power supply is a corsair HX750
A 980 would certainly boost framerates a lot at higher resolutions and settings without any other changes to your system, given a game that's not too heavy on the CPU (i.e. not ArmA).
You could get one, and then if you feel like you need extra performance out of CPU and I/O heavy uses (ArmA, probably the new GTA, simulation games, rendering, etc) , upgrading your CPU, motherboard and possibly a boot SSD afterward.
I ended up buying this. Came out to about $606 after taxes. Free two day shipping though, gotta love that. Video card to be added later. I kinda want to hold out to see what amd comes out with to compete with the 970. But I might just say fuck it and get a 970 in a few days, we'll see.

It's gonna be so great to have a computer again.

What should I upgrade here?
I've been thinking about just getting a 970 for now and getting a SSD along with a CPU/mobo upgrade later this year once Windows 10 is out.
Anyone got some recommendations for an external optical drive? Most of the ones I can find only seem to be DVD/Blu-Ray burners, which I don't need. I just want readers for Windows installation and watching DVDs or Blu-Ray movies.
[editline]18th March 2015[/editline]
Also I'd prefer to use a USB 3.0 connection for it, but I'll go for 2.0 if I have to.

a new GPU, so either a GTX 970 or R9 290. How big is your power supply?
Now that I have my PC together, I need to decide on a GPU. I have an antec hcg 520m as a power supply, and a budget of around $300. So my best options are either a gtx 970 or an r9 290x (if my PSU could handle one). I can get a 970 for $310 or I can get a 290x for $290. The 970 also comes with the witcher 3, which I was probably going to buy anyway, so that's a great value
The 970 generally does better in benchmarks at my resolution (1080p), but when you step it up to very high resolution, the 290x edges it out, probably because of the larger framebuffer. So I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place and I don't know which one to pick, could you help me out? What would you do if you were me?
Also as a side note I haven't used integrated graphics in so long that I had no idea they had advanced so much. The HD 4600 igpu in my i5 has surprised me very much. It can game adequately at low low settings at 1080p, which is something my ps3 would struggle to do. They've really come a long way.

Go with the 970. It's good for 1080p.

600 Watts, more than enough for now.
Is this also a good monitor for it's price? http://pcpartpicker.com/part/benq-monitor-rl2455hm
My current one, Asus VS247, is driving me crazy with it's color and gamma settings, either being over saturated or to dull and washed out, despite constant tweaking on both the monitor, nvidia control panel settings, and Windows display settings. No matter what settings I put it just looks off somehow.
A question, i wanted to go with SLI 970's but not sure on the PSU, my max is about 100$ for the PSU. other specs
3 HDD,
1 SSD
3570k,
1 Cd-rom, and 2 case fans.
An EVGA Supernova G2 750w should fit the bill

Get a QNIX QX2710 Evolution II, it's a 2560x1440 overclockable PLS panel. Better quality than a TN panel, and you can do 90-120fps on it. Not too expensive either.
Also make sure not to get the True 10 model. Get exactly what zombini said with only a single DVI-D input.
I'm not entirely educated about the subject but is this fiasco with Nvidia's GTX 970 the big deal that everyone is making it out to be? I just bought one yesterday and it runs perfectly for now, but if it wouldn't be worth the hassle to keep it I could easily return it and get AMD's equivalent. What do you guys think? Should I stick with the 970 or grab something else?

It's a great card, and gets great performance. You're going to run into issues with very high resolutions, which a 970 would struggle with anyways. The people who are REALLY affected now are those who got SLI 970's for 4k.

Ah ok. I'm currently running it on my ASUS 144hz monitor which is 1080p. Much later on I might go to a higher res like 1440p but that's not even an option until they come out with a display with that resolution and a 144hz refresh rate.
I'll stick with the 970. Thanks for clearing it up bud, I owe you one.

No problem, the 970 will definitely be excellent for high framerate 1080p.
It's some time ago that I bought a new pc and I'm not really up to date. 1400€-1500€ really is the maximum I want to pay, I only use it for games, no streaming or video editing, only some picture editing from time to time. I'm kinda picky when it comes to framerates though, I just want a high and stable framerate for current/future games, doesn't have to be on highest settings though.
This is what I got from messing around on a website where I will probably order it:
Configuration PC
CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-4690K € 254,-
Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 € 74,90
GPU: Palit GTX 980 Super Jetstream € 629,-
SSD: Samsung 850 Pro 2,5" 256 GB, SSD € 154,90
HDD: Western Digital WD10EZEX 1 TB € 54,90
RAM: Kingston HyperX DIMM 16 GB DDR3-1866 (2x8GB) € 142,90
MB: ASUS H97-PRO € 116,90
PSU: Seasonic G-650 € 119,90
Case: Fractal Design Define R5 White Window € 114,90
Fans: Noctua NF-A14 ULN (2x) € 43,98
Drive: LG GH-24NS € 14,99
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium € 89,90
Sum: € 1.811,17
Way to much, I could probably go with a GTX 970 instead because I won't go over 1080p. I also want it to be really quiet but keep the opportunity to overclock. I'm not planning to buy it soon though, maybe not even this year. I just wanted to hear some opinions about where I could cut costs and to get an idea about the price range.
[editline]24th March 2015[/editline]
Just read the posts above, I'd rather go for a GTX 970 now
Yea that's one of the things I don't really have a clue about. Can you recommend a fitting motherboard? I'm not planning on using SLI.
Its kinda pointless overclocking a ivy bridge ~ devils canyon cpu anyway, the heat output spikes so hard for the little boost in performance that you get.
Being honest I don't think you'd need to overclock any of that, it's a pretty solid system but I would drop the 4690k like kiwi said and go for just the stock model, it'll save you a fair amount of cash.
Plus if you really cared about future proofing you'd go for an i7 not a i5 (but the i5 is still ideal for your needs, this is more for the people who have more money than they know what to do with).
Yeah you can make some concessions if you're just playing at 1080p. I just built a system that contains an i5 4460, 8gb of RAM, and a gtx 970, and I haven't found a game yet that I can't play at full everything at 1080p, solid 60fps. And like 90% of stuff I can even DSR it up to 4k with MFAA and additional SSAO forced through the drivers (for games that don't have it).
So with a slightly better processor and a gtx 980, you will be able to play at 1080p or 1440p, 60fps, for at least the lifespan of the ps4, which should be something like 5-10 years. I recommend the 980 though if you have the extra cash. I have no complaints whatsoever about my 970, and you would be extremely pleased with one too, but I mean if you already planned to spend that much, and you're gonna save some money by getting a less expensive board and CPU since you don't need to overclock, go ahead and get it. A 970 is great, and a 980 will only be that much better.
